Can anyone explain why the rotini is not restricted?

Can anyone explain why the rotini is not considered restricted (as it has 12 carbs). Thanks

Many clinics go by net carbs which equals carbs minus the fiber. My clinic is not one of them and insists that the rotini is restricted

SHHHHHH!!!! What are you saying??! Don't tell them for goodness sake! We finally got a yummy non-restricted thing! LOL

I have a "bar" that has 21g carbs but the package says you can take off the fibre, the sugar alcohol, the glycerin, and the non-cooked corn starch out of the bar to make it only ONE net g. of carbs. It just sounds too good to be true, so I still think of it as a restricted. But there must be enough fibre in the rotini to justify it being under 9g of carbs. I just recycled my box today, so can't check the numbers.

Restricted vs non-restricted is determined by NET carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber). Some folks also allow for subtracting half the sugar alcohol carbs too - however sugar alcohols still have a Glycemic index and really should not be subtracted. Dietary fiber has NOTHING, it's undigestible. Doesn't add anything or cause a reaction (other than scrubbing out your intestines).

The rotini has 12g carbs but 5g dietary fiber. That means it has 7g net carbs, making it unrestricted.

Okay thanks!!

I think the rotini is great. I am just having trouble figuring out what to do with it.

My clinic doesnt have it - yet - how do you cook it? If you need to boil it, is it something that can be done the night before and brought to work? Does it hold up or does it turn to mush?

I'm sure she'd bring it in if I asked her to, I'm just trying to figure out if it work work being brought to work.

Yes, it does!

I cook an entire box on Sunday's, separate into 7 zip-loc bags and make my cold "pasta salad" (Rotini, cucumbers and WF Italian dressing) every day for lunch!

My coach told me it wasn't restricted because the level of protien and fiber. I also asked why the Mango RTD isn't either as it has 9 grams and she said it was also due to the high level of protein. Go figure ...

I haven't tried the rotini yet but I think I'm going to put in my salads and make like a pasta salad!!!!

Nope, it's unrestricted because it meets the criteria.

12g carbs - 5g dietary fiber = 7g NET carbs. Anything 8g net carbs or less is unrestricted.

Rotini???? Will have to give that a try. It's not one they have suggested to me yet. Sounds delish!

I realize this is an old thread, but I just want to confirm...

The only things I like on IP are the RTD chocolate drinks, plain rotini, and the bars.

Is it okay to eat rotini twice a day for as many days as I'm on IP? I was thinking of having rotini as a salad item for lunch...and then for dinner, having rotini with ground beef (I just won't eat a snack on those days since I'm technically combining my IP snack with my dinner meal).

Thoughts?

Some people will tell you that it is too much protein at once which can effect ketosis. I'm nit sure if that is true. I did it occasionally with the potato purée at dinner but doing it every day may not work. Plus, I would miss having having a snack.

How many things have you tried? How long have you been on
IP? Your tastes will change over time.
