Question: Ordering Salad Out - Oil & Vinegar

  • I have run into this a few times, and wanted some confirmation.
I like to go out and order salads, but I've run into issues with the oil and vinegar. We can only have apple cider vinegar right if we are on phase 1, right? I always ask what type of vinegar, and most places have red wine or balsamic vinegar, but no apple cider. I ran into it at Longhorn, and Ruby Tuesdays so far. I might have to make my own and bring it along. Can someone please confirm with me about the types of vinegar we can have on phase 1? Thanks
  • White vinegar is OK also. I have bought some of the Walden Farms salad dressing packets and I take them along with me when I am going to have salad out. I put together a little ziplock bag that has a couple of the Walden Farms Italian dressings, their pancake syrup and chocolate syrup, a couple of packages of sweetener and a couple of teabags for decaf tea. You can also buy packets of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (ask someone who is going out to eat at Carrabas to ask for a couple of packets for you, they have it there to hand out with their takeout.) It is good to just carry some of that in your purse just in case. Good luck!
  • I always ask for olive oil and a few lemon wedges. Tastes better to me than vinegar!
  • I bring the WF dressings with me too - but I can NEVER EVER EVER get them open!!! Drives me INSANE. I think I'm gonna have to bring scissors along too!!

This is exactly what I do too! I have yet gone to a restaurant where they had the right vinegar we can eat. I always do oil and Lemon wedges.
  • The sell this great small salad dressing container at Bed Bath and Beyond. I bought a few and take my oil and vinegar with me. NOTE: put it in a baggie if you use this sometimes it will leak a little. Good luck

So funny... I purchased a pair of small folded scissors for just that reason
  • Usually I find they have white vinigar, but if not, I also just use lemon. Actually most of the time now I am happy with just salt...
