Tea anyone?

Well I have finally found a tea that I like. I ahve never been a tea drinker, ever, but it is holding off some of the stomach growling in the afternoon. My question is do I have to add more water if I am drinking DECAF tea?

No - decaf tea (as long as it isn't presweetened) can just count in your daily water intake. It's the caffeine in coffee and regular tea that requires us to drink extra water, to counter the diuretic effect of the caffeine.

That's why I switched to decaf coffee! Warning though: Because I am drinking more coffee (sipping at it and feeling fuller as you say) I have not been drinking as much water as I should as it easy to feel like you're drinking lots when you really aren't getting enough H2O in! :)

I also have only been drinking decaf tea and coffee. And I'll continue, even after I reach goal, as I see no point in re-loading cafeine into my body after getting it all flushed out.

But I would like to ask for confirmation of something, because I read someone's comment about this in the past few weeks that made me wonder about it. IMO we're to be drinking at least 8-8oz glasses of water/day in addition to whatever decaf tea or coffee we consume - right? Just because the tea/coffee is decaf doesn't mean that it can replace the water? Ditto herb teas? They'd be in addition to the need for lots and lots of pure water.

No - decaf coffee/tea and herbal teas are just as hydrating to the body as regular water and can be counted in your daily water intake. The ONLY reason you need to add extra water when drinking caffeinated teas/coffee is because caffeine is a diuretic (makes your body lose water).

Glad I asked. :) Although I still somehow feel better when I also drink at least 8 glasses of water. :) Perhaps now though, I'll not get as concerned if I don't get the final 1 or 2 in by the end of the day.

Maezy, care to share what tea you like?:)

If you are concerned about caffiene, don't forget that decaf is not the same as caffiene free. Decaf has some caffiene in it still.

Just an FYI, approximately 95% of tea's caffeine is released during the first steeping. If you use whole leaf teas, you can just pour out your first cup and steep the same leaves again for decaf tea.

Coffee on the other hand goes through a pretty nasty chemical process to remove the caffeine. I quit drinking it after learning about the process.

I found the Celestial Seasonings raspberry and thins week I picked up the Celestial Seasonings sampler that has peach, wild berry, true blueberry and back cherry. Sometimes I have to add some sweetener but I'm trying to like it without. I also tried some EAS vanilla in it and that tasted great too. I will get to like it without anything soon. It's just going to take some time.
