protein issue
I may have asked this before or maybe someone else did.....I cannot eat all 8oz of cooked protein at one time. I try so hard but feel so sick. I find myself dreading dinner every night because I know how hard it is for me to finish it. Can I eat some at some other point in the day? My coach says no but I cannot eat it all. Do 2 egg whites equal a protein serving? I really need help. I really feel like I may have to quit this program solely due to the protein issue.

It's been said many times that you can split the protein up for dinner or lunch or breakfast. You can add an egg in which equals 2 oz of protein. I don't know about two egg whites.
Hope that helps! It is hard at first to eat all the protein at once. |
I was told I could split my protein between lunch and dinner... and often do for exactly the reason you mention. As far as eggs, my sheet says 2 whole eggs and 2 egg whites is the equivalent of the daily 8oz of protein. My tagline should read, "But remember: I could be wrong", so maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm/refute this. :)

The most updated sheet (from June of this year) says that the equivalent of 8oz protein is 4 eggs and 2 egg whites. Calorie wise and grams of protein wise that is about right.
If you have trouble getting it all in at dinner, split it between lunch and dinner. You can also have 1 whole egg (equal to about 2oz protein) earlier in the day, then you only have to worry about getting 6 oz in over the course of the day. Also just make sure you are measuring 8oz RAW - cooked meat weighs less :) |
You CAN split up your protein throughout the day. I am a coach and just attended an IP conference 2 weeks ago and this question was brought up. I know it is frustrating when coaches give different information but you can split up your protein.

Scorbett, my sheet specifically states cooked 8oz. going to be asking alot of questions at my next weigh in.

http://www.idealtogo.com/Library/Fase%201%20-%20ITG.pdf Other than the mention of Fat Free Cooked Ham under pork products, there's no mention of the meat being cooked or raw when measuring. I did find this post which poses an interesting point about the difference raw vs cooked makes in terms of your nutritional intake. In the end you need to work with your coach and do what you feel is best :) http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/4301612-post26.html |

Curious that different clinics/coaches have different opinions, isn't it? I was definitely told I could split up my protein between lunch and dinner, or even between three meals if I wanted to.
Crstyne, it's great to have you posting here - Like our own personal on-site coach :). |
The protocol is to measure/weigh 8oz of meat RAW prior to cooking. If you are using lean meats (recommended) the 8oz will not cook down very much.
@GlacierGirl3.......thx......I'm usually lurking around but don't say too much. I like to keep up to date with what IP'ers are dealing with. :-) |
Am I the only person on ip who was and still is hungry? I loved my 8 oz of protein.
