Grams Fiber Per Day

  • For those of you who keep track, how many grams of fiber do you take a day.

I find my fiber ranges from 8-16 grams a day. If I have too many of those 8 gram days, uum, BM's become less frequent.

    Thanks!
  • Mine ranges from 6 to 8 grams per day...probably more because I put xanthan gum in my shakes, that is all fiber, plus once in a while I will put inulin in them...another fiber, they cancel out the carbs they have...I really haven't had too much of a problem in that area.

Thanks, Fourstubbs! I'll have to check out xanthan gum and the inulin. I'd like an easy way to up the fiber on days with lower fiber.

Oh, and I love how you change out your avatar! So much fun.

Ha ha, thanks!! I get bored easily!! Just so you know I add them to my shakes because they also thicken them and help me stay fuller longer.... You only need a small bit of it... oh yeah another thing that is very full of fiber is chia seeds, I used that occasionally, that stuff is kinda strong on my body as far as fiber goes..lol...

Glad it made you laugh! I just ordered some Xanthum Gum from Amazon (much cheaper than buying it here). It adds 7g of fiber per teaspoon, but of course, you don't need that much to thicken a shake. I'll use it thicken my shakes too.

I'll check out chia seeds next.

Thank you so much for the info!
  • Too much fibre can actually be a problem. Experiment with adding more salt and make sure you are having the oil. Salt and oil both help prevent constipation.

    Thanks for the ideas!

I am having all the salt and oil too. I didn't really get constipated, just two days. Then I looked back last week, and I was getting less grams of fiber, which caused the slow down in BM's, so I went back to getting more fiber, and I'm having BM's normally again.
  • I'm not sure if Ideal Protein requires you to have less fibre, but the recommended daily amount for women is 22-23g. When taking more fibre then used to, you have to up your water consumption to help balance it and make sure BM's are normal.

Again however, I am unsure of if your program requires different amounts of fibre than what is recommended for women!

Thanks, Candeka. I read that around 25 is good for adult women, but I thought I had also read that for a lower calorie diet, like IP, it is less. So I just did a quick look up and it looks like 14 grams per 1000 calories is the recommended intake of fiber per day.

Thank you for making me do some research! Truly!
