spinach Question

Ok I have been on IP for a week now.

and this week I decided to mix it up a bit with what veggies I have, does Spinach count towards your 4 cups of veggies? I'm asking cause my coach wrote on my phase 1 sheet that the unlimited veggies are: Cucumbers, kale, Lettuce, and Spinach.

But I see that spinach is listed in the select veggies too, i'm hoping they count towards my veggies for the day as well.

Please let me know and sorry if this question was asked before.

Thanks Krystal

My sheet says the only veggie that is unlimited is lettuce - everything else either counts or is not allowed.

Spinach is definitely in the "veggies" part. All LETTUCE is free and some coaches say cukes and celery is free, but others don't so I count them as veggies too.

thanks!

Awesome thanks! I will count them as I think that they are classified a veggie I wouldn't call them unlimited.

I still count my cukes, celery and spinach as my 4 cups of veggies, I am not changing anything that has been working for me :)

I'm finding more and more that some coaches "change" the sheets, and they may just be going by the nutritional values for the veggies and making judgment calls only on that...BUT the balance of foods on IP seems to also be based on the acid/base balance in the body. Lettuce is an alkali (base) food - spinach is an acid food. Just another interesting facet to this diet!

I always counted my spinach towards my 4cups veggies, same with celery and cukes, etc. If its not printed on the most recent sheet, then its not IP approved.

My coach also suggested watching for spring mix lettuces that include spinach

Thanks for the Replies everyone, I will count my spinach towards my 4 cups of veggies. Strange that every coach says something different.

Spinach is a-ok for salad or other veggies

too bad it whithers away into so little, but it is sooo good! I usually eat it in my omelet which I love...and also fresh is pretty delicious!

Not sure about this ladies. Should we really follow the advice of two that have lost a combined 260 pounds??? :joker: :joker: :joker:

I really really hope spinach is counted as part of our veggie intake. I've been doing Liz's Spinach Smoothie for weeks now. It is so easy and I don't have to worry about trying new veggies and how to prepare them....I've gotten lazy on my veggies, but I'm actually getting 4-5 cups a day.

My coach said cucumbers, dill pickles and lettuce were unlimited. But my sheet says only lettuce is so I go by what the sheet is because my coach is a bit of a nut job anyway

Our clinic says that cucumbers and lettuce are unlimited....not all clinics are the same though!

My dietician says any leafy greens for the salad part but that I can also have an additional spinach serving for one of my 4 veggies
