Just had to share!

After being on the waiting list for gastric bypass for the past 2 ½ years, i finally got the call.

I never thought the day would come where i would turn down weight loss surgery and I was THRILLED to tell them that i didn't need it anymore! The nurse was very nice and wanted to know what i did and she actually said that IP was a very good diet as even after surgery, the right way to eat is to promote protein meals with veggies and best to separate the fats and carbs.

Now since gastric bypass is covered by the medicare here, i asked her that since i save the government money in not having the surgery, would that give me a boost to have them cover to remove my loose skin..helas it doesn't lol (i was asking jokingly).

So just had to share that IP saved me from surgery and i'm sure i would not have lost the weight faster than the 10 months it took me on IP.

Now if i could just get my tummy tuck approved, i'll be one happy lady :)

That is great news. Most of the people I know that have had a weight loss surgery have lost the weight, but gained it back! I am sure you will have long term perm. success! Congratulations. :)

Wow, you must feel amazing and empowered! Big Congrats!!

In looking for alternative products we often turn to things that were developed for bariatric surgery patients. So I have often said that we are eating (and losing) like we had the surgery but without the risk!

Congrats! you look great! :yay:

That's is so awesome! I thought about and researched surgery before starting IP, and was scared away from it. I opted to find a program that provided the needed nutrients, yet had great results, and here I am! I've often thought that bariatric patients can't lose much faster than those of us doing IP.

wow, what a story. Your success is amazing!

That is awesome! Good for you. That must have been AWESOME to tell the nurse you didn't need the surgery anymore!!! Hooray!!

Omg Busymom!!! That is the best NSV yet! I am very very leery of surgery from the 2 family members of mine that have had it. My mom had a full gastric bypass, with complications, nearly died from the procedure, and has gained most of the weight back. My aunt, her sister, had a lapband and has gained all of the weight back. Being able to do this on IP, just....wow...I am crying right now so happy for you! You did this! You did this! YOU DID THIS!

LizRR 09-25-2012 09:51 PM

You

This is so great for you! It must've felt amazing to tell the nurse no, you didn't need surgery!

I do know a girl who had the lapband surgery. She literally lost a person in weight. She has kept the weight off. However, I have also heard stories of many people putting the weight back on.

I suppose the surgery, like any other weight loss method, is simply a means to an end if you don't modify your eating/exercise habits.

So wonderful! My cousin had the lap band surgery and has had a lot of success with it, but every once in awhile will eat the "wrong" thing and throw up! OMG!

What a wonderful moment for you! I am so happy for you!

olleharr 09-26-2012 08:23 AM

That's awesome! Congrats!

lisa32989 09-26-2012 08:39 AM

How wonderful!

Congrats

I know several people who have had one form of weight loss surgery or another. The long-term maintenance has been horrible! I lost 100 on Atkins and gained it back

No matter what program or intervention, maintenance takes as much diligence as losing the weight but you don't get the positive feedback of the scale going down.

I need to decide what my ongoing positive feedback will be in maintenance so I'll KEEP THIS OFF! (When I get to goal next year)

Great NSV. Great story

Thanks for sharing it with us!

RN4Babies 09-26-2012 09:09 AM
