Thanks, Lisa. With this and the other formulas, it seems like I'm pretty much on target with what I'm shooting for. Now to get there!! (I sooooo want a glass of champagne at midnight, but I think the will not to cheat may be stronger!) :D

I chose mine because that is what I weighed before I turned 41. Uggg the 40's everything seems to slow down. I said it before and I'll say it again...Grow old gracefully ...oh no I'm going to fight it every step of the way !!!!

I asked my dr and she gave me the desirable weight range for me. She chose 150 and I chose 155. 164 puts me back into overweight and I want room to play with.
LIZRR - Id have to give you my numbers to get through your formula!! I admire and am in awe of your math mind!!!!

I picked 170 because that is what I was before I had a lot of medical problems that caused a 40 lbs weight gain in 3 months and my life seemed (notice I said seemed) to go downhill.

My husband and most of my friends have never seen me below 210 so it will be different for them I am sure! I always felt comfortale at 170, I am big boned and have always been large in the chest area, but at this weight I was an XL or a 14/16 and was happy with that!

Thanks Lisa! That website shows average for me at 165!

My doctor wants me to be at 145 lbs. based off my height and body frame, but my goal is 135 lbs. because that's how much I weighed prior to gaining a lot of weight.

I love seeing how people come up with their goal weights! Truth be told I still don't know for sure what I will settle on. At a minimum I want to be below 130 because by all "formulas" that puts me into a healthy range. I am a pretty small frame though (and barely 5'1) and at 133 I am still a size 10/12. So, I am thinking more like 115 to 120 as I REALLY want to be a 6/8....but one week at a time.

I picked my goal according to the BMI chart- hopefully I don't look ugly! otherwise I'll add a couple of pounds... will see :)

I picked 250 then looked at the BMI chart and saw that was still obese, then I chose 220, which is over weight and not obese. I was scared as heck picking that weight, I've not been that thin for more than twenty years. But I'm about a hundred pounds away with 150 behind me so I feel like I can do it now.

I just used that page, kinda cool. Thanks. I was 168 in August of 1990 when I graduated from boot camp. The chart states 195 as a the "peoples choice" for me. Dang! I might reassess when I get closer. For me right now getting below 300 is my next short term goal. I am giving myself five weeks to get there. I feel focused today, a little hungry right now, which is a good thing. It is lunch time!

I hear you on the fear part Joby. I haven't been this weight since middle school - over 25 years ago! I hit 180 at 14 years old, and I remember hitting 100lb ~8-9 years old - oddly I was able to 'maintain' 185-195lb for most of my adult life, had a few up years at ~220-240 (grad school) and about few down years at ~170 (before my wedding). I've always been overweight/obese since I was a kid, so this is definitely a completely new outlook. I told my coach my goal weight was 180lb to start with (and that sounded like a pipe dream) - she's the one who pushed for 150 as my initial goal, and then I lowered it to 145lb. Considered lowering it even more but my clothes were just the right size (XSmall/size 2), I still remember my size 12 goal jeans that looked sooooo tiny!

Liz it is inspiring to read how you reset your goal from 180 to 145.

You are doing great

No science I just want to be closer to my pre-babies weight which was 98 lbs, so I picked 120.

Tziri 01-02-2013 02:40 PM

I tried to pick a "higher end" goal weight as I also have no idea what a happy/healthy weight for me is. My first choice was 180 knowing I would get into hiking and weight training, but I decided to lower it. I'm hoping to eventually get into a size 10 jean. I just want to be able to hike any trail I find without feeling like I'm dying!
