Sick of just drinking water!!!!
Hi Everyone!!! I am getting very tired of just drinking water. I have tried making teas and putting in Splenda, but have gotten tired of that, too. Recently my coach mentioned flavored seltzer waters, but they are not always on sale. What else can I drink, since I was told that all diet items are out of the question. Thank you for your help!!!
|
Sorry hun, this isnt what you want to hear, but my only advice is to just grin and bear it!
I HATED water. and I mean hated it. in 2008 I started working out with a personal trainer/nutritionist and when I complained to her that water was gross, and that I hated it, she kinda said, tough love! Now, water is my favorite thing! I think as our bodies change, our taste buds do too. My body craves water now, and its kinda weird! I couldn't even drink 3 glasses a day, and now i drink well over 100 oz. a day! You can do it! |
My coach said we can drink the Powerade Zero. I dont drink it all the time, I drink water most of the time, but every now and then I'll have a Powerade Zero for dinner.
|
- Lemon/Lime-ade - use splenda and try infusing with Thyme, Ginger, or Rosemary, Mint, or other herbs. serve chilled.
- Try adding thinly sliced cucumbers to water- super refreshing. - I really wanted soda one day, so I had 8oz of plain Talking Rain sparkling water (cheap) & added Mio to flavor. It satiated the need at the time (my understanding is we shouldn't really be having too much carbonation, so I haven't had it since). |
I use Mio and LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of sliced Lemons. ;) Lemons save me in the water department.
|
The only way I can drink it is ICE COLD! I use one packet a day of Crystal light if I need to get over a little water hump. Hang in there. It truly is the best thing for you.
|
I drink water from a purifier or buy bottled water, use MIO in at at home to get my husband to drink it, also drink Powerade Zero, and if it's a "really" bad day I'll get Pepsi Max with Splenda or Diet Coke with Splenda (yes they are sweetened with splenda). This is NOT allowed on protocol so keep that in mind.

I picked up a ice crusher. I wanted small ice chips in my shakes (small enough to melt quickly but make my shake extra cold). http://www.amazon.com/Deni-6000-Ice-...00+Ice+Crusher
This Deni crusher didn't get great reviews, but it's worked fine for what I wanted. Anyway, I know there's cheeper routes, but I figured i was in it for the long haul and I really want my drinks cold. It has helped. |

I find myself occasionally adding some MIO, or sometimes one of the other flavorings - but it's quite rare these days. Not even on a daily basis anymore - more like 2x/week if that. I prefer plain, unadulterateded filtered water. Sometimes with a good squirt of ACV added. :D Very occasionally maybe a glass of club soda with a squirt of MIO. That's my 'special occasion' drink. :) And I found I dislike Powerade Zero. Bought one a couple of weeks ago to test it, and the rest of the bottle's been sitting in my fridge untouched ever since. I prefer plain water. |

Some ppl use MIO I never did in P1...I do in maintenance and have noticed a difference on the scale when I stay away from it on my P1 days...and I don't use a lot. Just a tiny squirt in two or three glasses... Also, if you're new to drinking water it does get easier. Just keep plugging away...try making yourself really thirsty with exercise or excess garlic and guzzle it down.. ;) |
Maybe try adding a little (organic) apple cider vinegar to your water? It's said to be good for your general health & digestion, and adds potassium too.
|
pellegrino with splash of vanilla extract over ice.
|
4C brand drink mix (powder in those little tubs)...sweetended with splenda...walmart has them...many falvors to choose from.
Good luck! Jake |
Ice helps. Power Aid Zero rocks. I like the purple and red best.
|
I agree with a lot of these posts... I used to live on nothing but soda and sweet tea, but now water is the only thing that satisfies my thirst. Just keep chugging!
|
I've been using unsweetened Kool Aid and adding Stevia. I've always been a big water drinker, but I like a little something extra too. My coach said this was fine.
|
If you have a Wegman's grocery store near you, they have their brand of flavored seltzer water (0/0/0) for $0.88 a bottle. I usually have some lemons or "true lemon" if I want something sweet. Try having your water super ice cold-- that might make it more tolerable!
Good luck! |
I've found that the easiest way for me to drink all my required water, is to drink it all in the morning. That way any additional water I drink for the rest of the day is a bonus. Amazingly enough, I didn't like to drink water all that much before IP. Now, I crave it. Good luck!
|
Commercial seltzer is not IP approved due to the alkaline base of this diet and the phosphoric acid used in the carbonation process goes against that balance. That being said, I have been kown to indulge in the occasional homemade seltzer w/Mio when I need a treat, but I "heart" water.

The ice is more like a snow cone type small bits of ice, uniform in size. There are ice shavers that make more snow like ice as well. I noticed you have to turn it on and drop the ice in while it's moving. I tried at first to load it and then turn it on but it froze up. Since I feed it while it's moving it has not had any issues - but it is somewhat of a beast - might throw a ice chip back at you. I love the idea of a crystal light snow cone or ice bowl. I will give that a try tomorrow! |
I've been on IP since April and I use MIO in every ounce of water that I drink, it has not hampered my weight loss one bit, so far I'm down 45 lbs in 12 weeks. Everyone's chemistry is different so try it, you might like it.

Real Lemon and Lime
Does anyone use this in their water? I saw it on the baking isle. It's dehyrated and crystalized lemon and lime juice in little packets. The box says it's for cooking and for water.
|
I've tried the real lemon and honestly wasn't impressed, it just tastes very blah, not very lemony at all! :(
|
I use Sparkling Ice (a Talking Rain product) as my treat. It's flavored carbonated water. No phosphates and sweetened with Spenda. I also use MIO too.
|
I don't know about this IP program, but could you try:
Ice + water + some blueberries (or apple, or any other fruit - a little bit for flavor) & blend Ice + water + some ginger (powdered, jared, or fresh) & blend |

Herbal teas and fancy coffee beans?
Last night I too was looking for a change from the water. I was going to make some 4 berry herbal tea (iced), but then wondered if there are trace amts of sugar. Also, is hazelnut coffee OK (using hazelnut coffee beans?) Same issue..do the flavored coffee beans have trace amounts of sugars?
|
Quote:
I would just check the ingredients in everything. I stopped using hazelnut coffee since it said it has added ingredients(who knows what that means). Thank you to everyone who has been writing. I have been drinking water a lot more and looking into the True Lemon packets at the store. I tried Target, but didn't see any. |
This sign is at my clinic:
You can make yourself drink more water by putting more of it into your mouth and then swallowing. Cracks me up every time! |

Is Mio and 4Cs ok on P1?
I am having the same problem. I don't mind using splenda and lemon etc., but I am afaid that I am eating too much Splenda--how much is too much? Is Mio considered a freebie?
|
Splenda, Walden Farms, and Mio are all Sucralose based sweeteners. Everyone has their own sensitivity to it, if you are handling them okay, happy with your losses, and it helps your water consumption, then it should be okay. My coach advised me to limit them to 6 or less per day. Assume each serving is 4.999999 calories and 0.999999g carbs according to her (just under FDA guidelines for 0/0/0 labeling). I believe liquid sweet leaf brand stevia is the only 'true' zero calorie sweetener, or at least one of them.
And i think the flavored teas and coffee are great! |
