bloodwork with TSH off
My counselor advised me to get my bloodwork done to be able to compare it when I lose my weight.
I got it back yesterday. Under the heart and kidney functions, the BUN/Creatinine Ratio was high at 28. I did a little research and that can be high if on a high protein diet (I was on day 9 when my blood was drawn). My total cholesterol went from 198(Sept 2010) to 172! My Vitamin D was a little low as was my blood sugar at 62. My biggest concern is my TSH was 4.75. Could this indicate hypothyroidism? Could this be why I only lost 5 pounds over 6 weeks on WW the beginning of the year? Do you think I should call the doctor? Would I see the gp or go to my son's endocrinologist (he has type 1 diabetes and Hashimoto's)? I'll probably call her today and see what she thinks. I felt horrible yesterday for the first time on the program (11 days in). Headachey and blassee(if that's a word).....if I hadn't known better I would have thought I had drank too much wine the night before. Hopefully I'll feel better today! Have a good day all! Teresa |

I am hypothyroid...suspected it last year and tried to address it with natural stuff...it just doesn't work. You will need the thyroid meds to help you. You will also want to consider going gluten free...the typical cause of hypothyroid is Hashimoto's disease and that has serious ties to gluten intolerance. I feel much MUCH better now that I have been off any gluten for the past six months and on my meds for about 9. Best of luck! |

Do you see a gp or an endo? |
Checking in with the Dr. never hurts. Voice your concerns to him and let him or her decided what's going on.

Anyhow once you have seriously looked at all the things that your body is telling you talk candidly and honestly with your doc about it. Your blood results speak volumes but the info helps too. |

i wouldnt advise you NOT to see a doctor---> that said..... ANYONE who is in a substantial deficit (likeIP) is going to have *false* low thyroid and other hormone values....... its a result of being in the deficit...... lower HR, COLDER all the time, etc, etc. So you need to make sure that your doctor KNOWS this before anything is decided regarding treatment FYI- it is best to have these types of tests done once youve been eating in maitnenance for a minimum if 2 weeks " Note: This is very important. Dieting down dramatically affects thyroid levels and lowers them even in healthy individuals. It is important that you are in a feed state for at least 2 weeks before getting a test, otherwise your results will be skewed." http://www.leighpeele.com/blood-test...ing-and-sanity |
One major epicenter of advise is to get the brand name product, not generic.
The generics don't have the consistancy that you need. I was diagnosed 25 years ago with an endo, then a few years later switched to my gp for my yearly tests. Now I'm back with an endo. I figure it's his specialty. Also, my insurance doesn't require me to get a referral to see a specialist. |
