Easter Food

okay, easter is only a week away and i'm stressing about what I am going to eat for dinner. We usually have ham, macaroni salad, chips, all that stuff and i'm really nervous about it. Any recipes out there that would be good for easter?

Wuv I love your new picture. You look so young like maybe thirty. And yes skinny to :). My husband and I are vacationing and I have all my packets with me. I was pretty protective over my ip food. I would have given security my Louis vuitton bag. My husband was cracking up laughing. He was so cute looking around the airport for my healthy salad. Thanks everyone :)

I don't know if this helps, I just saw this thread from the main page, but I'm making a huge layered salad for Easter as my contribution (lettuce/spinach mix, tomatoes, fresh peas, eggs, cheese, repeat, and top with a pile of boiled shrimp). I'll probably do some tomato/basil/mozz kebabs with balsamic and some fruit kebabs for after. There will be tons of other things, but my stuff will be pretty! I love a good salad, caprese (sp???) salad is one of my favorite things so I think it will be fantastic on a stick, and there's a lot of good fruit in season.

I don't know that any of these things fit in with IP but they beat the heck out of chips and mac salad!

Two people in my family have birthdays coming up right after Easter so I'm making that Kit Kat and M&M cake that's been making the rounds on Pinterest for them - that thing is super cute but nothing about it makes me want to dig in so I'm hoping that will cover the sweets. It just does not appeal but it satisfies my need to BAKE something cute.

unfortunately more than 3/4 of the items you listed we cannot have on IP.... But this is the risk we take while doing something that does wonders to the mind and body!!

If you like deviled eggs, they're easy and can be done using WF products. Just add a little lemon juice to your filling and it gives it a nice tang. It's not quite the same as using Miracle Whip, but close enough. Mustard is 0/0/0, so you can use it for flavor without worrying.

My coach just told me today that you can make "potato" salad using turnips, although she said it's best to eat it right away because if you put it in the fridge the turnip taste really starts to come out.

A veggie tray is easy enough, and you can use WF ranch for dipping sauce. You can make turnip, kale or zucchini chips and they're tasty enough that the whole family will probably like them and not miss having potato chips.

Thanks Ng but I am 46 yrs old...not skinny yet by no mean but sure am smaller than I was 11 months ago that is for sure....size 20-22!

Momto2cs 04-02-2012 11:36 PM

I think a lean ham or turkey breast, some roasted asparagus, cauliflower potato salad and a nice salad would be delicious! And devil led eggs..mmmmm
There are lots of options that could be healthy and delicious!

3mama 04-03-2012 12:22 AM

I'm planning on bringing veggies and dip - all veggies I love, just won't eat the dip. You could use some of your own dip/dressing for yourself. A nice fresh spinach salad with a vinaigrette dressing would be good too.

IPdivajen 04-03-2012 12:33 AM

We found a sugar free ham that we'll be having as our protein so that seems at least a wee bit Easter like!

happy2bthin 04-03-2012 01:20 AM

Where did you find your sugar free ham?
Is it fat free as well?

Survalia 04-03-2012 11:31 AM

Grilled salmon and asparagus, IP lemon pudding for snack/dessert later!!!

Make your table beautiful, drink your beverage of choice from a wine glass, enjoy the people around you and have a blessed Easter!

Busymomx4 04-03-2012 12:35 PM

I will be eating ham and will be making mashed cauliflower. I'm happy with that. Just keep thinking, by next year you will be able to have your heart's content.

I totally agree !!!!;):)

It will be just another day for us, My youngest will be leaving to go back to college that day so we are going to do our Easter on Good Friday at mom's. Don't know exactly what we are having yet its still up in the air depending if we can get crawfish or not. I know I will have mushrooms and onions and crawfish if we can get them :)

The more you stress about what you're going to eat, the harder it's going to be when you get there! You KNOW there will be things there that you can't have, and instead of focusing on those items, focus on the items you CAN have. I eat ham without any kind of glaze on it all the time (my dad smokes it for me) and my coach has not had a problem with this. Make sure your contributions to the feast are foods you CAN have. Take an extra packet or two with you just in case. Focus on why you're getting together....not to eat, but to spend time with each other and celebrate Easter! I've been to A LOT of get togethers since starting, including birthday parties at bars with lots of fried foods, family get togethers with deserts and snacks galore, out to various dining establishments with friends, and several mini vacations with the hubby. It gets easier, but as long as you stay focused on the positive and avoid the negative, you'll be fine!

JellyMae87 04-03-2012 06:23 PM

My mother - Who is my IP cheerleader. Is making turkey... I tend to stay away from ham because of the high sodium... But I am not sure what else I will be eating... Im thinking it will pretty much look like Thanksgiving!!

Samba 04-04-2012 12:46 AM

So many good ideas for Easter celebration! I won"t be fixing Easter as I will be at the dog show with friends over the weekend. I will have my IP foods in tow and hope the hotel restaraunt can fix veggies.

TransformingMeg 04-04-2012 02:57 PM

I have been so worried about Easter too!! Gosh, I wish I could have whatever I want...

This is my first post on a thread! I am so happy that I found a place where there are other REAL people on IP... :)

omgzitsmiranda 04-04-2012 03:56 PM

Turkey here too I'm thinking.
I'm not a big ham fan anyway ;P

Miss Laura B 04-04-2012 09:10 PM

Mom and I were just discussing this tonight!

Deviled Eggs are a must
I'm on a baked mushroom kick lately (maybe some stuffed mushrooms if I can decide what to stuff them with..)

I think the main dish will be smoked chickens? but I'm not sure yet...

ChaloJ 04-04-2012 09:57 PM

I am thinking about making the ham puff things on FinnSteven's thread. Maybe the cauliflower breadsticks, too.

I think everyone's encouragement to focus on what we *can* have seems spot on.

We can do it!!

whisperingshouts 04-06-2012 03:29 AM

We are going totally non traditional on Easter this year. DH and I are both on IP and my mother is on Weight Watchers. So needless to say, all of us needed to adjust our norm. We are grilling chicken, chicken brauts, and sish ka bobs!! Also having a large salad, and grilled veggies. Mom is making some WW friendly desserts for everyone else, while I will take some IP jello for hubby and I!!! I was thrilled that everyone was willing to sacrifice a "normal" holiday meal for those of us trying so hard to be good!!
