How do you handle constipation?

I hate feeling so constipated on this diet; I'm on day 9 and it's not going away. What recommendations would you guys make? Do you eat certain things, take certain pills or supplements, etc? (from drug store or clinic?)

Would love the advice thanks!

I don't take anything special to help with the "C" but I can say I don't have the issue. To make sure I stay normal, I like to eat veggies with more fiber in them such as cauliflower(2 cups have over 5g of fiber). Also, I choose the packets that have more fiber such as the Mango RTD (5g fiber) or dark chocolate pudding (4g). Even some of the bars and soy nuts have a good amount of fiber in them!

I've attached a list of the IP foods nutritional values!
I hope this helps!

Some of the other ladies will probably be able to tell you about supplements you can take :)

Magnesium is great for constipation.

I personally avoid the Big C by getting lots of fiber on a daily basis as Cassi mentioned above. My daily staples are Miracle Noodles and ground chia seed in my shakes (1 tbs per shake). That combo keeps me going once or twice a day, every day.

I take two magnesium citrate a day. Someone posted that that is better than the plain magnesium. I'm not sure if that is correct but I get the citrate. You may need to take more of it than two tablets.. Also if it is really bad you may need to cut back on the calcium until the magnesium kicks in.

I take two novi-lax a day and it sort of works...I'm going to search for something I can buy OTC (over the counter) because Novi-lax is expensive...

I eat tons of fiber and if you're predisposed to the big C it really doesn't make a difference...Twice I have gotten the CVS liquid magnesium citrate and it works quickly!!! Drink it on a day you have nothing to do...but don't make a habit of it! :) Good luck!

Magnesium Citrate works great! If it's really bad, start with 2000 mg and give it a day. It's it works too well, cut it back to 1500 mg and so on.

If you're miserable and you NEED to get cleaned out, try Milk of Magnesia. Take the max dose and drink 10 oz of water before - not right before but within the hour. Then, after taking it drink another glass of water. MoM holds water in the gut and is NOT a stimulant. It works well - should work overnight. If you're worried about it 'working' while you're AT work, try taking it around 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

If you start to rely on stimulant laxatives, it will make matters worse and you may become dependent on them.

I am on pain meds and IP - NOT a good combo! The magnesium works great. Well, that and a cup of coffee! ;)

I've just added Nordic Naturals' Ultimate Omega (fish oil) three days ago and went back to daily elimination immediately :D

I've been having issues with the big C as well. I take senna caplets. Usually I can take 4 caplets once a week, and it keeps me going all week.

Make sure you're taking in lots and lots of water too....

Magnesium Citrate is what my coach recommends for the big C (it's in a liquid form in the pharmacy section)

Both the water and the salt are important. Make sure you are salting your food.

This is an issue I have had since I started! Ugh! I broke down and use the produce sold at the clinic flo something, it helps! I drink more then what you should in water, I have always been a huge water drinker and pick things higher in fiber BUT I need the clinic produce to help keep things going otherwise I feel like garbage!

I have this issue also. On a short term basis, I use 2 Dulcolax. Thinking about magnesium citrate and chia seeds.

After thinking I had this all under control through high fiber and water.. I experience it this week. I tried 2 tablets of Senokot and nothing happened, 2 days in a row. I researched a lot of the older threads and purchased Udo's 3.6.9 Blend Oil. It has many benefits and comes in either a capsule or oil form. I'm using the oil form and will just put it over my salad twice per day. I hope it helps :)

Duclolax and colace help prevent constipation rather than treat it. It pulls water into the intestine to soften the stool. So if you were to go one day without having a bowel movement take a stool softener that night 100mg or 200mg with a glass of warm water before the constipation really sets in. And remember since it pulls water in, make sure you double up on the water.Milk of mag will treat the constipation.

Has anyone tried the tea, Smooth Move (Traditional Medicines)? I am thinking I might give that a try.
