Question about measuring veggies

Do you measure them raw or cooked?? Also why cant you have onions cooked?

SomedayBubblySomeday 01-26-2012 11:18 AM

RAW, cooking onions releases their sugars.

A lot of veggies release sugars when heated, this process is called carmelizing. I was cooking my turnips and making them into fries (baked of course) and they were carmelizing in the oven...I've changed the way I cooked them and the pounds have been melting away faster...

Thanks to you, New Englander, I am cutting out my turnips altogether. I only liked them when they got brown, and since I like many other veggies, I can live without them! Hoping to see an increase in loss next week, but any loss is a good one ;)

Wow!! Thanks ladies! I will no longer be eating onions!

Are mushrooms ok??

Chix 01-29-2012 07:12 PM

Yes, mushrooms are okay and they are so savory and delicious when baked with some cauliflower, celery and garlic tossed in some seasoning with a drizzle of olive oil. Reminds me of veggies cooked with a pot roast ;)
