I'm with Linden, just say, "no thanks." As soon as you mention that you can't have something due to a diet, people can just really get in your face in regards to their pushing the food on you or most commonly, giving you their opinion on your diet. This is the reason I haven't advertised what I'm doing to lose weight. One of my friends, who is on IP, just tells her coworkers that she has cut sugar out of her diet.

I totally agree - "I cut out sugar from my diet." That's what I tell people at work when they get on my nerves about my "rabbit food" for lunch or not eating those cookies, cakes, etc. that are sitting out, I swear, on every unoccupied flat surface in our office.
Even when people see the diet work, they will have a negative opinion. My own mother sabotaged my first attempt at IP about a year ago - I had already lost 30 lbs.! She was visiting me for a few weeks, and I know she meant well. She did a lot of the cooking - typical Mom style with butter, cream, cheese, bacon etc. in the Veggies. I told her I couldn't have them the way she made them, and she knew better, of course. Everytime her comment was "a little XYZ is not going to make you fat - you just need to exercise more"... GRRRRRRRR
I love blaming my Mom for derailing me and sending me back to a life of pop tarts and french fries for many months, but I need to take responsibility for my own actions.
No matter how much people try to talk you into or out of eating something, YOU are the one who has to stay strong. Ultimately - regardless of what anyone does or says - I am the one who will sabotage my efforts by caving in and acting against my better knowledge.
By the way... I've forgiven my Mom ;) She's allowed to come visit again for my daughter's 2nd birthday, and since she's coming in from Europe she's even allowed to stay for a few weeks. However, she is not allowed to cook this time - thinking about installing landmines around my stove, he, he...
