MY hubby rides a racking horse and he can really move on..about 25 MPH and still be in that smooth 4-beat gait.

I rode a TN Walker once, it was really fun! Quarter Horses are the norm around here for sure, everyone makes fun of me with my Appy love, but I just can't help it! LOL 25 MPH...wow!!!

I currently have 4 horses - 18 yr old arab gelding, 17 yr old paint mare, 12 yr old 1/2 arab mare and 3 yr old 1/2 arab filly. Unfortunately, with this many horses, I hardly have time to ride. I spend most of my time cleaning stalls, feeding, bathing horses, etc. Fixing to start riding again. I had a busy year last year and only rode sporadically. Hoping for more ride time this year. I really miss it, and its great exercise. Not to mention, very relaxing!

Well what fun! A bunch of horse lovers! I grew u on a ranch and have ridden, shown and rodeoed most of my life. I was a highschool rodeo queen, County Rodeo queen and State rodeo queen. I couldn't put my big toe in my chaps now! I might be exagerating a little on the last one. I ponyed race colts for two seasons in the last two years. Talk about get your legs and butt in shape! Well, I moved away from the track, and didn't have that great excersise this summer. I am on the do it yourself IP diet. Started on the 11th and I have lost 11 #. I am excited about it. Just like getting a fat horse in shape slow and easy to start!

LOL! Love it! I always wanted to do the rodeo stuff, but was too much of a wimp to go that fast, so I stuck with Western Pleasure...was Grand Champion at the fair back in my day...ditto about the chaps...ha ha!!!

Hello fellow Wyoming ranch lady- I too grew up on a wyo ranch, and have moved back to the ranch. I never rodeoed- more into QH youth/English/reining/working cow horse/horse packing/ranch horse competitions/--- in that order, I've done a little of everything- depending on the horse- where are you locate in Wyoming ?

Cheers

I too grew up riding horses.

I am now down to my one 17 year old Arabian gelding who unfortunately is just 14.2 and very small boned so I haven't ridden him in about 6 years due to my weight.

Getting back on the horse is a huge motivator for my weight loss, but even now I take my boy for walks, yes him on a lead me walking around the neighborhood, he's such a funny fellow lol.

He was an early weaner due to a serious elbow injury at just a few months old so he grew up bottle fed for a bit and having people in the stall with him 24-7 so he loves humans and likes them best on the ground petting him he's still a little bemused when I would get on him, he was like okay mom but this is a little weird lol.

He's in perfect health and his elbow healed perfectly like nothing ever happened so if I can get this weight off I look forward to swinging back up on him and riding around the neighborhood (yes we live in a rather expensive but still pretty rural neighborhood where several people on my street hide multiple horses behind their fancy houses and ride around the neighborhood, I love it). Glad to see so many horse people working on their weight, makes me feel less of an oddball :)

Hi Triggergirl, welcome to the horselovers section of IP! LOL It reallys is a big motivator for me knowing how much better off my horse will be as I lose more weight. He takes good care of me so it's the least I can do for him!

Thanks for the Bump :dizzy: I have my 3rd weigh in tomorrow, feeling good about it, although I do know my loss will slow down. I just want to get to 240 by Spring so I can ride! My neighbor has a couple extra horses that she offered up to me until I find my new man...I know I can do it!

Loved doing WP. Can't beat that rockin chair ride! Maybe we can be Champions again in the wt loss category? I was a noodle back in the day! I am just looking forward to putting the "spare tire" back on the truck!!!!! I cheated yesterday, had a very small piece of cheese, it was litterly yelling at me when I opened the fridge to fix dinner. Goofy how I felt bad for eating it! Like I am going to go to **** or something.? Back on track though. Well, need to get on my gazelle and do my 20 minutes. I think that has helped me alot. Loosened up my joints and gives me air! Have a blessed day and "Tally Ho" towards wt. loss!:carrot:

Cool- riding in the "hood". Lovely way to get exercise. You could do the queen wave to the neighbors. haha Sounds like you have a beautiful place to take walks to get out and get fresh air. I am sure some of the folks on here don't have that. I have the great out doors too, Wyoming! Right now I am horseless, I moved in with my fiance' and don't want to stall out my horse across town. But when he retires we will be moving to AZ, where I will promptly get chickens and another horse or 2. Yippee!!:carrot: Well, I am off to jump on the Gazelle( exercise machine) just for a shorty work out. Have a wonderful day and give your horse a kiss from WYO1963 for me!

Hi all,
I am a Mule rider now! I was riding my Appy mare but she passed on due to colic. I had 3 mules in the pasture so I decided to start riding them instead of getting another horse. I am happy with the switch!

Nice to meet you all! I am new to the forum and new to the IP diet. I was on Atkins diet for over 5 years and did great on it. I went off it a couple years back for some stupid reason and am finding it hard to get started on induction again. I decided to try the IP because it had some structure. Will see where it takes me. I need to get back into riding shape for spring. I too want to be able to mount from the ground and not pull my mule over LOL. It doesn't help that he is 16 hands.

Nice looking mule, and he is a big boy! I have often wanted to get a gaited mule, to me it would be the best of both worlds...smooth ride and surefooted. Welcome to IP, you will find lots of helpful information here at 3FC.

Yep, so smooth, love the rocking chair :) So funny you cheated with cheese! 2 days ago I was craving so bad to bite into a big hunk of cheese, I told my husband I didn't even really feel like I needed to eat it, I just wanted to bite into it....weird, I know! LOL!
