Can you measure veggies by weight?

Cups is a really difficult way to measure veggies -- particularly oddly shaped ones like asparagus and broccoli. Has anyone come up with good weight measurements that might work? ie. 1 cup = 8 oz -- I realize that's a weight vs. volume measure but it seems like that would be far more accurate in the long run.

Every vegetable would have a different weight. Usually if you look up things like asparagus, it gives a number of stalks for a serving. A cup of anything seldom weighs 8 ounces.

copied from another post... Google USDA Nutritional Data base. It will tell you exactly what 2 cups of raw vegetables equals.

Thank you Sara!

I had the same question. I measured out my veggies by weight using an 8 oz measurement and I knew I was way off. What a helpful resource!

A lot of the calorie counting websites also list both volume and weight measures (and even nutrition label info for other information).

On frozen veggies, the bag usually lists both. For example, I have a package of frozen stiry fry veggie blend (not the ones with seasonings, sauses or pasta - just veggies) and the label says 1cup (96g).

So, I weighed out 96 grams (because I wanted 1 cup).
