Is My Goal Doable?????

i want to lose 20 lbs in may, is that too much. i will have my 4th wi on friday.:)

longdivision 05-02-2011 07:53 PM

if you stick to the program, you should be able to do it! i lost 20 lbs my first month and my second month. it's easier when you have more weight to lose, so i think you should be able to. but it also depends on the pace that you are currently losing weight. what is your current average?

crystalchuckgracie 05-02-2011 07:55 PM

this Friday will be four weeks as of now i have lost 15 lbs, i weigh in again Friday

Sunshine87 05-02-2011 08:44 PM

I think you can lose 20 in a month if you spend a good bit of time working out and being faithful to your diet. I am also making 20 lb goal for this month and I am working out 90 mins/day and eating 1200 calories. I am at the beginning of my journey.

@longdivision- How did you lose your weight so quickly? How much exercise did you invest each day?

phall8180 05-02-2011 08:55 PM

I was wondering the same thing! I mean from what I am reading on this forum people are losing 20 pounds a month like nothing! I was hoping to be 200 by May 21st, but I am not sure that is a realistic goal. ( I am 222lbs as of today)
I have 3 more weigh-ins until that date.
I am sure you will lose 20 pounds in the month!
Keep at it!

no exercise at all. just followed the Ideal Protein protocol without any cheats!

Not to be the party pooper but after the first month weight loss seems to slow down especially around week 5 and 6. A lot of times people stall here that is why they recommend the clense. I would shoot for the lower end of average of 3 pounds a week for 12 for the month. I think that is more realistic. Add 30 mins of easy cardio and it will help.

TWoww 05-03-2011 06:16 AM

I would also agree that being active is a great stress reliever and helps keep you toned while you are loosing lbs and inches! I love my daily walks of 2.5-3.5 miles and I have been doing a lot of outdoor work lately. Going to start pilates up again soon and get some jump roping in! Good luck:):carrot:

darbs7 05-03-2011 07:52 AM

I think I lost about 18 pounds my second month and I was 100% on protocol (not a single taste off protocol)....so 20 is very realistic.

I am hoping to put down about 20 pounds by June 12th (but I am closer to the end of the journey so I think it will go slower).

Good luck....I know you will kick butt:carrot::carrot::D

ltaylor716 05-03-2011 09:14 AM

I will be done with my 1st month on Thursday and right now I am at 16 lbs. I am going to shoot for another 16 lbs on my 2nd month! This diet has been the one I have been most successful with so I think 16 lbs is doable. I do not exercise yet....does it really help with quicker weight loss or do you see more inches lost???

Your goal of 20 lbs in May is doable! Here is my advice. I would do a week of IP bootcamp, a week of non IP bootcamp, etc. Alternate your weeks with bootcamp and non bootcamp. You should be able to get to 20+ lbs no problem. I would not add exercise for the month of May. Just follow the protocol and you will get there. Drink lots of water. Remember half your body weight in oz a day!

YOU CAN DO IT!

I agree with you... I have been losing about 3 pounds per week, which for me is "fast"... I wouldn't get too wrapped up in losing a specific amount of weight in a specific amount of time.

Bootcamp = only eating non restriced packets and drinks and only having non occassional veggetables

Non bootcamp = having your restricted items and having occassional veggetables.

Does alternating these (non-bootcamp & Bootcamp) help quicken weight loss? and why no exercising?
Sorry for the questions, I am new to this too. I eat a restricted once a day so would like to know!
Thanks

Alaskaipjourney 05-03-2011 03:37 PM

I think a lot of the difference may depend on how much you have to lose. I wanted to lose 40 pounds.

crystalchuckgracie 05-03-2011 04:00 PM

well, i have to lose well over 100 lbs. so i think setting goals helps me, and i always am in boot camp, i guess. i only have the 3 chocolate drinks a day, and i hardly ever eat any restricted veggies. i think 20 lbs for may is good for me, i am not sure about the rest of the time though. my first wi for may is friday, it will also mark my 1 month for ip. :)

Travelbug 05-04-2011 09:21 AM

Having a goal is good but I'm afraid if you don't manage to lose 20 pounds in a month, you'll be very disappointed and could have a setback because of it. I myself had strong goals when i started. I saw those quick losses in the beginning and thought for sure by the time the end of May came along, I would be most of the way to my goal. I was diligent with what I ate. No cheats, weighed everything perfectly, followed protocol to the letter. And then I cried when I would only lose 2 or 3 pounds in a week. It HAD to be 4 - 5 or I wasn't going to be happy. So I wasn't happy. I couldn't see that I should be celebrating those 2 or 3 pounds that were gone. The thing is there really wasn't anything I could do to increase the loss that I wasn't already doing. My body was going to lose it at the speed it wanted to, not the speed I wanted it to.

Having goals are very important....but putting too much of a time restriction on them may backfire on you. :)

Sunshine, We are all following a low carb, low calorie, moderate protein, low fat protocol which is doctor designed. It allows us to improve our health while losing weight without exercise. Although light exercise can be incorporated. The results are great! The program is Ideal Protein.

Based on what you have lost so far without your next weigh in, I would get you should be able to target 17 to 20 pounds for the month. You will need to be more strict, measure a bit careful and really watch that water intake to get the results. I think you should shoot for it!

Thanks for asking the questions about bootcamp - I'm new too and had no idea! How much of a difference does it make to weight loss?

There is a lot of discussion on this board about the impact of exercise. Overall (completely anecdotally, no science here!) I'd have to say more people seem to say that heavy exercise slowed their losses. It seems that regular, moderate exercise (walking, light weights, easy biking) has seemed to give very positive results of good losses and toning. When I started I was told no exercise at all for the first 3 weeks (until I was out of bootcamp) and then light exercise ONLY. But everybody is different--some people have done well, and it may or may not have to do with what was "Normal" for you before IP. take a look at the exercise thread, I just bumped it to the front page.

foreveryoung 05-05-2011 02:55 AM

I think you could lose 15lb to 20lb - the first month your body tents to shade a lot weight then it slows down, probably you could add some light exercise to help a bit - I have notice when I do weights or 2 hours of intense workout my body stops loosing weight, I have quit exercising.

I think you can do anything you put your mind too! Keep up the good work. I am in my second week and have seen a slow down in my loss ( i weigh myself daily) I know I shouldn't! I think I am going to have my hubby hide my scale :)
I have about 100 pounds to lose too... WE CAN DO IT!!! Just stay on plan and it will happen :) Keep us posted on your weigh in results Friday!!
