Question for Girls Only

Ok, this may be TMI but I need to ask. Has anyone else found that their TOM is really late after being on IP. I have been on IP for 6 weeks now. The first month I was 4 days late. Currently I am 8 days late and still waiting. No I am not pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be from hormone imbalance from losing so much fat so quickly? Thanks for your help.

I've heard and read that fat stores estrogen, so when you start burning a lot of fat quickly, your estrogen levels spike and this can throw things off. Are you taking any hormonal birth control? My OB insists it isn't enough estrogen to cause BC to fail, but I've heard around here that in theory it is. As far as spotting and late, I think that's all normal. Definitely ask your coach at your next meeting though!

Yes, it is definitely from losing so much fat so quickly. Females store their hormones in their fat. I was on the pill the entire time I was losing and I had spotting for 2 weeks before each period. It was really annoying, but things returned back to normal once the weight was lost.

I am not on any hormonal med, birth control or otherwise. Just is bothering me some cause I don't know what is going on. Thanks for your response!

Hi - I'm having kind of the opposite problem in that I'm experiencing TOM only two weeks after my last! Plus I'm on oral contraceptives, so it's even stranger to be irregular. I spoke with my coach about it today and she said many of her other clients were experienceing the same thing. She said the same thing as above - that hormones are stored in fat and are being released, causing crazy TOM occurrences.

Btw, I was also warned that back-up methods of BC should be used while on IP due to these hormonal surges interfering with BC pills.

snowclover 04-14-2011 06:00 PM

EatAnts did you use a back up method? I don't wanna, condoms suck! lol sorry! Just hopping the tmi train.

I also agree with snowclover, they do..... and my TOM was 7 days early.... and still going.... NOT normal for this one..

I totally had/have the opposite problem too. I bled for 6 weeks. I went to my gyno and he said the same thing- estrogen built up in fat cells. The bleeding has subsided a little bit but still appears at the most random times.

Oh my goodness.. This just happened to me, after 10 weeks on ip, I was 12 days late.. And we can't have anymore kids (spayed and neutered is what I call it) so needless to say, I was very worried.. Good to know this is somewhat normal.

Make sure you're taking iron pills if you've been bleeding for awhile! I was fine but I've been irregular since my oldest was born.

While we're on the TMI train, look into a menstrual cup. I have a Ladycup and LOVE it. I'm never going back to disposable mentrual products ever again.

I have my Tom a week early even on bcp. Very surprising
This month, nothing-even with the week off...
Not pg, but body fat is now below 20-maybe temporary changes?..

I've been extra emotional this week, TOM is usually every 4th Thursday (I'm on patches). I don't know if its the hormones I've been releasing or the grueling 3am-12noon est trainings I've been in all week. All I know is at 12:30-2:30 I get REALLY cranky, then emotional, then tired. I went to bed at 3:30pm yesterday and woke up at 3am this morning. Today is the last day of class (thank god) and next week I won't be traveling. I am going to be carrying around extra 'supplies' just in case weird things happen.

And yes the extra protection, while not happy about , is being used.

Don't worry, lots of us share information that most may consider to be TMI. But if it's a concern, it's better to ask than not to!

I've been on IP for 4 weeks, and my TOM started on time... sorta. I spotted for a week and a half, then TOM "officially" visited, lasted like, 3 days, and I'm still spotting through yesterday. It's been 2 and a half weeks!

You'll find all of us women's visits by TOM to be extremely irregular. I was scared at first but when I found out it's normal, I wasn't worried anymore. :)

I have been on IP for 3 weeks not and I got my TOM this 6 days early. and it started like spotting here and there. They did tell me it is going to be little off because of hormones change. I know we WOMEN have to go through so much....don't we????????

Good Luck my dear....that is something we gotta deal with.

When I first started IP my period was three weeks late, then it would either bea couple days early, late, or I would skip a month all together.

Didn't worry about being pregnant since Brandon was in Afghanistan! lol :p
