Passover next week...what to do.

I need some suggestions. Passover is next week and I keep the holiday and keep kosher for Passover.

For the two seders, I must eat matzah, and drink wine. I am also having about 10 people over for whom i am cooking with a lot of traditional foods. I know the first two days will be lost days and will delay further weight loss the rest of the week, regardless of what else I eat, even though I am doing some healthy foods as The question is how do I handle the diet the rest of the week.

Soy protein is the basis of most of the packets. I believe the chocolate drinks will work for me, and I can have them as breakfast for the week. My thought was that for the rest of the week, after the first two days, I eat regular food, but limit it to lean proteins and vegetables and lots of water.

Does anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions about how to handle this?

Thanks!

I think you're on the right track. Do your best to follow the diet outline, but substitute one of the proteins from the list for the packets. I'm pretty ignorant about kosher requirements, but many of the packets contain whey or collagen, so are those allowed?

If you can eat eggs, that's pretty close calorie-wise to a packet. Otherwise, stick to a few ounces of chicken breast, fish... the normal low-cal proteins.

Visit Dr Tran's website for alternative versions of the protocol which list real food instead of packets. www.trantiendiet.com

Here is the nutritional sheet.

Are you allowed to eat soy? I was confused by your reference to soy.

Hi! CHeck out this great blog for kosher low carb passover cooking!!http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/low...rbpassover.htm They have recipes from mains to desserts, that will help you keep as close to on track as possible. I'm going to go back and study it some more myself. Things like whole wheat matzoh (more fiber, less carbs) and if we can shave off a little here and there, it's all good. Since we can have egg whites, you can make macaroons for yourself too with stevia instead of sugar and almond extract. Stuff like that. Enjoy your Passover and mostly...relax...less stress equals quicker recovery. I know you'll get right back on track. :)

I wouldn't have the whole glass of wine, but only tiny sips if you must have it. Also I know that you are supposed to have matzo, but maybe limit your amount. The charoset/charoses (each family seems to pronounce it different) as you know is a HUGE no no with IP. BUT I also understand that you will need to have some. I love it so I usually have A LOT. try only having a tiny amount with a tiny piece of matzo. You will still be tasting it/eating it, but not a normal size amount.

I hope that you remember that even if you slip a few notches on the scale it wont be the end of the world. This is a very important Seder and I hope you you have a good time.

Sheb'khol haleilot anu okhlin hametz umatzah; halailah hazeh, kuloh matzah.

This doesn't exactly apply to us now, as we are not eating bread, but we are supposed to eat the matzo.

these 2 nights might set you back, but wont kill you. You'll make up for it another week.

I started my IP today, I almost waited until after passover next week!! Good luck, I am sad to miss out on all the charoases!

Thanks so much for all the input!

It will be a struggle, but I will get through it, and get back on track on the other side. This week has been tougher than I thought, because I am spending too much time thinking about what i am serving, and how I am serving it. The only thing that got me through today was having 2 restricted bars!

When I went through all the ingredients in the IP products, it looks like the chocolate drink and the chocolate pudding is the closest thing to kosher for passover (no soy, rice flour etc...) I will try to do that for breakfast.

My thought is when I am all done with that, I will start out fresh and maybe lose a bunch of weight really quickly again!

Happy Pesach and Easter to those who celebrate those holidays!

Just a Passover update. I did not go to my coach the week before Passover, or the week of Passover. I did go on the last day and I lost 1.5 pounds! That is a major success.

I ended up not using IP foods, although I did have the chocolate drink in the AM a few times. I did eat everything I made, but it limited portions, and had lots of veggies. During the week at work, I ate my usual salads, and I drank LOTS of water.

I am amazed with the results so far.

Passover and IP

I had some questions about how to manage and this old site was very helpful.<a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wYlekLX/">

I know this was written a few years ago, but it was exactly what I was looking for! I just started IP and was so worried about Passover and the Seder.

Whew!
Thank you again.

Hi All,

When I was on IP for 9 months (lost 80 pounds) 2 years ago I was on P1 during Passover. I had my usual very large Seder, made all of the customary foods, but I did not eat them that year. --and I made everything, including matzahball soup! That was the only year I did not eat any of the foods, as I was a crazy 100%er.

The following year (last year) I was at my daughters and I ate pretty much everything, but did not overdo it. I was on maintenance.

This year I'm nearing the end of a reboot, since January. I'll be away this year taking care of my ill sister. Not sure I'll even be able to attend a Seder this year, sorry to say. I've always had a very big one with lots of people in attendance.

But it's very possible to eat a tiny bit of the required foods of the seder. There is nothing that indicates the amounts of matzah, charoset, etc. that MUST be consumed. Most seders are family and culture-traditional. Of course, you need to have the 4 cups of wine, but you can have sips instead of cups.

Enjoy your family and community and the ritual. Taste a bit of the foods, if you feel you need to. But remember that you will be there tomorrow, still on program and all of these foods will be around next year! (For me, the chocolate macaroons, matzah, charoset and maror were the hardest to pass up!) But you can do this. Do it so you will feel ok with it the next day (or week). Then move on.

If you keep kosher for pesach all week, I think that it's possible to keep it on IP. I'm not sure about soy. I know we don't eat beans that expand, but I'm not sure about soy. There's also a difference in Sephardic and Ashkenasic traditions. Here's a blog about it.
