Ideal Protein Dieters: What is your average weight loss per week?

I know that IP officials say average weight loss for women is 4 - 5 pounds per week, but that seems a little high. I haven't lost more than 3 pounds in a week, except for the first week.

Is their stat true to this population? What is your average weight loss per week?

Hollmark 01-23-2011 10:25 PM

Hi there, I lost 6.2 on week one...6.4 week two, and i lost 4 more since my WI on Fri. I love this diet!!!

kjw83 01-23-2011 10:31 PM

Hi! Not to be discouraging or anything...I lost 4# the first week and only 2# the 2nd week. I`m starting my 3rd week.

Mrs Diettrich 01-23-2011 10:34 PM

I have lost 41 lbs in 15 weeks - 2.73 lbs average. This is including a week that had a cheat weekend and a 1 lb gain.

Pegsi 01-23-2011 11:06 PM

I lose 2lbs. every week but I would lose more if I could give up my coffee whitner! I am trying! This diet really does work I lost 35lbs real fast and am now working on the last 20? 25? 30? I will know it when I get there!

ACTUALLY, the official IDEAL PROTEIN media collateral says it is typical for women to lose 2-4 pounds per week on AVERAGE.

I know that is not how some people and some clinics market the diet but, that is how the IDEAL PROTEIN materials read for people who are looking to have a business.

I lost 3.25 pounds on average BUT I lost more than 4 pounds (average) the first 12 weeks, then lost steady 3 to 3.5 pounds for a long while, then was losing 1-2 pounds for a while. It all works out in the end I suppose.

When I got down to the end and was losing 2 pounds or less and my coach was accusing me (indirectly) of cheating or not following the plan, I contacted Dr Tran, gave him the run down, and he gave me some great information and advice but, the best thing was, at my stage of the game with so much less to lose and for how long I had already been on the program AND with how little I was eating, it was expected to now be losing where I was.

SO, I know for absolute certainty, this program is not expected or intended to cause all women to lose 4-5 pounds a week for long if, at all.

machbasy 01-24-2011 09:10 AM

JMO, but I think it is counter-productive to compare your weight loss to someone else's. If I have 100 pounds to lose, of course I will lose faster than someone who only has 20 pounds to lose, even if we both follow protocol to a "T". Any loss is a great loss in my book. Follow the plan and it will happen!

Machbasy - I agree and see that tends to be what people report. I'd love to loose another 10 this month but I'm trying to adjust to only a few # per week. What excites me is the inches I'm loosing. It's more than just the scales but rather loosing the fat. Happy to see my spare tire deflate :carrot:

sunnymae 01-24-2011 06:14 PM

My average is 2.5 per week. Total of 30 in 3 months. Yes..I lost more or less or none at all on some weeks, like this week for instance. As someone already mentioned,we all lose differently. Age, height, starting weight, body fat percentages, hormones, stress levels and so on, have everything to do with how we lose.
At first I was comparing my weight loss to others. BIG mistake. Product marketing is a set-up for being made to feel like a failure, and shame on any coach who accuses any of us of cheating if we don't lose a certain amount each week. That's just bogus.
What I did do from time to time was find other women in my age, height and starting weight bracket, and it was a more sensible way to make comparisons. Even so...we are all still very different. There are SO many factors.
Bottom line...it all came off, one way or another and the fat loss is mind boggling. I have never looked like this even though I have weighed this little many times.
As someone on this forum once said..just do the plan exactly as it's stated and let the plan do the rest. There's nothin' to it , but to do it!

Letterer 01-24-2011 06:20 PM

My average over 6-1/2 months was 2-1/3 lbs per week. I started out the first week with about a 5 lb drop, then settled in. Some weeks I lost closer to 3 lbs, others closer to one. I actually found I had a cycle, with 2 weeks of slow loss followed by 2 weeks of bigger numbers. It all works out in the end!

whisperingshouts 01-24-2011 10:49 PM

I had my first weigh in today and my coach said my results were very a typical... I lost 10 lbs and 14 inches. All week long I prayed for just one single pound!! I never imagined it would be like this.. I do realize that some weeks will be better than other, but I know that if I follow protocol I will be just fine!!

That's great news! Much better than my first weigh in (WI) last week. I lost 9lbs and 5 inches. Now you know for a fact that you can do it if you stick with it!!

Josephine216 01-24-2011 11:06 PM

My average is 2.69 pounds per week. I've been on the program for 7 weeks.

I do and I am very committed to doing so!!! Your weigh in wasn't bad!!! I'd be very happy with that.

I remember reading from research, after awhile your body's metabolism will adjust to your calorie intake. You will actually stop losing weight or very little. In fact in some cases you can be maintaining a low calorie in take for quite sometime and start gaining again. I don't know if you've heard anything like this or not, but would be interested to know if this was true. I believe this may of happened to me at one time. If it happens to me when I'm down at goal, I guess I'd ramp up the exercise.

I've only had 3 weigh-ins. 12lbs, 5lbs and 5lbs. If I maintained a 5lb loss that would be very good.

Alaskaipjourney 01-25-2011 02:15 AM

I have had two weigh ins with a total of 8 pounds lost. She said that I was doing great and thought that my results were due to me not having any of the restricted items (no chili, no bars, no stew). I hope to keep it up and decided to wait for my third week to be up so I can start excercise again.

couts71 01-25-2011 02:28 AM

I started IP 12 weeks ago but have only had 10 weigh ins but my average weight loss for 12 weeks is 5.17 lbs per week. IP ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!

wyoangel 01-25-2011 10:12 AM

I guess at 52.2 lbs lost in 20 weeks that puts me at an average of 2.61....I stalled for 2 weeks with no loss/gain, so that didn't help my average!

juiceman11 01-25-2011 10:52 AM

In 11 days I lost 17.8 pounds, 1.6 pounds a day, but I just started too. I have my next WI (#3) this thursday, which will put me 18 days into the program.

It is true. Also, as you lose, you need fewer calories to sustain yourself so, you close the game between what you need to eat in calories and what you are eating. Some people have more muscle or faster metabolism ( I was on the lower side) so they can keep up a better average. Other people may not be able to do that and see lower numbers.

When you are maintaining a too low a calorie for your body for too long, you enter a starvation mode, it actually has an effect of dialing back the thyroid too. That means you will burn fat more slowly because your body needs/demands less. Over time,if you stay in starvation, you will begin to gain because (as I understand it) some of the processes your body needs to or tries to preform it will eat muscle for. As muscle is destroyed, metabolism dips farther and you begin to gain.

I would say, even as you are getting close to goal start doing light, slow, steady exercise. Even sitting and lifting some dumb bells while at home or doing push ups, squats with your own body weight, lunges, any activity that uses weight (your own is good too) will help you to maintain, tone, strengthen the muscle you have and may help you build muscle if you add light weight. My advice is, within reason, move to keep your body burning, demanding more fuel, and to help keep and, maybe, build muscle.

oreilla 01-25-2011 10:01 PM

Hi, I would love to say that I have lost that much ! Lost 5 the fist week ans 1 the second.... cant week to see tomorrow for the third :))

greenwav99 01-26-2011 02:03 PM

Thanks to everyone for their input. I say this halfway jokingly and halfway serious: For as much money as IP costs, the sacrifices (absolutely NO food outside of protocol), the hunger, the hard work, etc...I expect to lose more than 2 pounds a week. I can lose 2 pounds a week on many other diets.

I do think IP is a great program, and it definitely keeps me disciplined, but I do feel deprived. Like many have said, it depends on how much you have to lose, your body chemistry, etc, so I know all these things. Just being impatient I guess! Thanks again for the encouragement.

tedski 01-26-2011 02:19 PM

17 weeks, 51 pounds. 3.0 average.

darbs7 01-26-2011 03:31 PM

I was on plan 17 weeks. The first week I lose 8.5. The last week I gained one (sticking to the plan 100% like I had the other 16 weeks..but started working out with a personal trainer). I lose 58 pounds in 16 weeks or 3.625 per week.

I understand the whole issue with it being expensive - it is --one of the other things I was focusing on was how many inches people lost and from where. I wanted to know if what they claim "you burn fat" is actually true - when I could lose weight the only places I lost inches was in my face, calves, hands and feet - I could never loose in my dreaded mid section so I wanted to see if this protocol could help me loose inches in those stubborn places-- personally I am amazed at this more then the weight loss -- I gave birth to an 11 pound 6 oz baby 5 months ago (just imagine how big I was and then double it :) )and shock of all shocks - my stomach is almost completely flat (it wasn't even flat before I had the baby) it is actually flatter then before pregnancy (all my girlfriends want to go on the diet just to loose the baby pooch) -- it has been 3 weeks on this plan and never in the MONTHS that I did other diets did I loose this many inches (even though I lost the same amount of weight) -- Not sure if this helps but it does help me stay motivated.:):):)

Joliebug82 01-26-2011 06:43 PM

Cheeky, my thing has been the inches lost, too. I've lost 17.2 pounds in 4 weeks (average 4.3 a week!) and 24 inches! That's from thighs, hips, waist, bust, neck, and arms, the majority from my hips, waist!, and bust, of course. Dude. That's 2 feet off my body! In one month! That's SIX inches a week! I have found that every other week I either lose more weight or more inches. Funny how that works. Love IP and am so happy to have started and stuck to it! Can't wait to see what summer brings!

oreilla 01-26-2011 09:58 PM

Hi... I happy with the results, week 1, lost 5... week2, lost 1 and week three, lost 8... youppi !!!!

leslie9211 05-15-2011 12:51 AM

Bummed

I am completely bummed and need a pick me up. I lost 4 lbs in week one of IP, just got weighed today for week two and I lost NOTHING!!! my weight was exactly the same as week one to the .6!!!! unbelievable. It actually brought a tear to my eye!! I have been completely following the protocol and if nothing else my calories have decreased greatly!! I'm losing hope in this diet... I'll have one more perfect week of dieting and decide what to do this friday when I get weighed in.

ugh. frustrating. :?:

katiebeth7 05-15-2011 02:11 PM

I don't have my "official" weigh-in for week 1 until tomorrow, but so far, I have lost about 9lbs and I could NOT BE HAPPIER! Looking forward to Monday afternoon when I have a chance to meet with my coach.

It is disappointing Leslie BUT did you lose inches? That is the one thing with this plan...the inches and pounds don't always correspond...fat is as not heavy as muscle and losing inches is great in itself as your clothes fit better. Just look forward to next week...you're following the plan and I'm sure you'll catch up! Stell :)

Shrinking Sandra 05-15-2011 03:45 PM

In 8 weeks I have lost 37lbs. which is an average of 4.62lbs/week. This doesn't mean I lose this much each week. You can see on the bottom of my signature how much I have lost each week.

wannabsize8 05-15-2011 04:52 PM

I have been losing very slowly but am still staying on protocol. The first week (January) I lost 6 pounds. Some weeks I am lucky to lose 2 pounds but mostly it's been 1 or 1 1/2 each week, sometimes only 1/2 pound. Last week, I lost 3 pounds which shocked me because I had none nothing differently. I only have 10 pounds to go and will consider myself finished and move onto the next phase. Sometimes, I mind that it is slow, but it's a big difference from where I was in January and that makes me happy!!

AprilH3 05-15-2011 06:51 PM

I've lost an average of 4lbs per week. The first week I lost 6.5, I've had three weeks where I lost a little over 2lbs but otherwise it's been generally 4.6lbs per week. I anticipate it will slow down closer to goal. I've started excersizing lightly to keep it up. Since muscle burns fat it seems to me that doing what I can to gain muscle will only help.

Hanna00m 05-16-2011 12:58 PM

29 pounds in 7 weeks, average of 3.85 pounds a week. :)

Lisaf373 05-16-2011 05:12 PM

The fastest it ever went was 2-3 pounds a week - typically between 2.5 and 3 for the first few months. After maybe 3-4 months it slowed to 2 pounds, and then recently it slowed WAY down.

My understanding was, the 7 pounds/week is more for men, and women are more like 3-4 at best.

maccaronee 05-18-2011 08:04 PM

I have only been doing IP for 2 weeks and 4 days and so far 17 pounds baby!

I noticed somewhere on the many forums that I have visited that everyone has different results. Some people are consistent week to week, after the first week; and others have a big week, not so big week and rotate back and forth.

My first weigh in I lost 8.7 pounds. My second weigh in they said I gained two pounds and I nearly died, I was so disapointed since at home I weigh myself in the morning in my birthday suit and I had lost maybe 3-4 pounds total that week. However I realized they weighed me with different clothes so one I took of my sweater and emptied my pockets and they wrote me in at the same weight :( Still pretty depressing for everything this diet takes.

However now into my third week I have had another big week. I am going to plan to wear light clothes to my weigh in but on my scale at home I am down to 200.5 today.

Try wearing the same thing to your weigh ins!

I am curious about Plateau's...I have certain weights that no matter what I try my body doesn't like to go past and found even on IP I yo yo'd up and down around that number. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THAT?

showgirlaz 05-19-2011 02:40 AM

I am tackling the second half of my goal right now and, so far, I am doing as well as last time. I am 16 days into the program and down 14.3 pounds.

Newpair 05-19-2011 03:31 AM

I added up my average today... 3.34 per week. Not bad I say, not bad at all. :D

I agree 100%!!! My experience is exactly the same, averaging around 2.5 lbs per week (with the first couple of weeks a bit higher). My guide says expect for women 12 -15 per month. MEN, on the other hand.....ugh!!!! My husband is also doing IP with me. Needless to say the weight is coming off...averaging 20-25 per month! It's a good thing I love him!:hug:LOL!!! Actually, I must admit it has been a blessing doing this together....and we hope to keep this our way of eating for the rest of our lives!! :smug:

Best wishes everybody....finally a weight loss way of life that works!! Woot woot!!!:carrot:

puddleduck 05-19-2011 08:32 AM

Same here disgal! FH and I are doing this together, we started in March. He's lost about 45, I've lost 30. I agree it's SOO much easier doing this together. Although the past couple of weeks I seem to have hit a plateau, with only 1 or 2lb weight losses....anyone else have this happen? I'm in week 10.
