The food I ate 3 of those four days was 90% on plan....I split a small olive/cheese appetizer (no carbs..just calories and fat) with my hubby.

Unfortunately I did not want my calories to go too far above 1200-1300 a day and since I was taking in 450 in red wine....I cut elsewhere.....I would have a shake for breakfast....a shake for lunch.....no salad...no snacks....then I would have my meat and veggie for dinner (with very thorough cooking instructions)...

I woke up every morning and did a 1 hour power walk and drank 40 ounces of water and then would get a Starbucks green tea and dump my vanilla shake in it.

I felt great the whole time...never left ketosis...was rarely hungry. I didn't expect anything on the scale except maybe up a pound or two because of the low calories I ate and the wine...maybe fluid retention....But was down 1 pound this morning (returned at 3am last night)

I feel so great that I stayed in control and never was tempted by any carb foods...yipeee
Sounds like you handled things pretty well! Way to go! I bet you enjoyed it too.

Default I know for sure I can do this

I derailed over New Year's. Ate and drank off protocol. First time in 12 weeks. I kicked myself out of ketosis I hope I get back in ketosis soon. After one day back on strict protocol phase 1 I weighed the next day to see where my weight stood. Exactly the same, right to the ounce as the morning of Dec 31st. So to put a positive spin on my bad behavior this derailment shows me that I can do phase 4 and maintain my weight, when I get there. Hopefully by the end of this month I will be in phase 2 and then 3 then.........maintainence!

So, I found myself slipping up today - damn cashews and almonds... It's my own fault too - I shouldn't have even bought them at Target! But they looked so goooooood. And every once in a while, I'll have a little bit of peanuts. I'm thinking that I'm going to have to take the two jars I bought to work on Monday. Clearly, I cannot be trusted having them at home!

I think only having a loss of .4 lbs last week is getting to my head - I had a good on protocol week and I only lost .4. It was just a little defeating. And there's this little worm in my head that is saying "well, clearly it doesn't matter." But I bought size medium shirts at Old Navy today for the first time and dang it, it does matter!

Like I said, the nuts will be going to work on Monday.

Alright girl...fight the good fight. I too had troubling thoughts this week (wine), but never acted on them. I must stay 100% motivated until February 19th (cruise) because I will get knocked out of ketosis that week and I need to lose as much as possible before then.

Now, nuts, cheese, olives, meats are the best cheats you can have because they most likely will not knock you out of ketosis. Dust yourself off, and be 100%, no loss of momenteum...you are doing great. Keep on keeping on.:carrot :

i did start to use mustard for a dip when i get steaks or chicken. but i always thought we could have that. also i started to drink hot tea. (because its been so cold here) with sweet-n-low in it. i thought we could have that as well. HELP

Great recommendation darbs! That's actually what I called "coloring outside the lines" when I was on Phase 1. The extra fat is so satiating ... it muted my carb cravings.

I'd switch up the order on your list a little ...
1. meats/egg (even off-protocol fattier meats, just not processed stuff with grain fillers like some sausages)
2. olives
3. avocado (I know, it's fatty, but it's good fat like olives)
4 + 5. nuts/cheese (prioritize the one that's easier for you can say no to or have only a bit )

Darbs - this made me feel so much better about my 'bad' behaviour! (though I'm not sure that's a good thing??? )
The cheats that I have had along the way on this journey have almost entirely been to do with wine. I've had several occasions - my conference the beginning of November, mid-November visiting our friends in Vegas, several Christmas parties, then this past Friday after work. Similar to you, I have been pretty strong about resisting the food temptations (okay, okay, I'm not a strong as you! ). Overall, my weight loss has been pretty good. According to my scale this morning I'm down 37 lbs since Sept 20th.
There is no question that the cheats have slowed me down - all you have to do is compare our results - so I'll likely be putting out more money than I needed to on this diet.
BUT, I am so thrilled that I've changed my wine drinking habits! I used to have anywhere from 1-3 glasses PER EVENING! It was such a crutch I used to destress and relax after work. Now I am quite satisfied with my perrier for that. My wine drinking has been on special occasions. This is a life lesson - how I want my life to be after IP.
Anyway, reading your post explains why I've still lost over a pound since Friday even though I did have the wine. I guess it didn't knock me out of ketosis like I thought it would.
I still don't want to let it happen again before my Mexico vacation - I'm trying to optimize my weight loss before then. My coach wants me to phase off before Mexico - a week in phase 2 and a week in phase 3, then maintenance while I'm there. Once I'm back, all going according to hoyle, I'll have about 15 more pounds to go to reach my goal before summer.
Thanks again for being such an inspiration
and on your continuing, fabulous results!!!

While very pleased with the IP weight loss, lately I am struggling with keeping on strict protocol. It's usually a few almonds, a slice of cheese, or extra protein - things I consider healthier cheats! I have also enjoyed a few glasses of wine on a few special occasions but those times have been rare. What I find I really am craving is fresh fruit...and this comes and goes. What I have done is simply take a slice of an apple or a few sections of orange and make it last. I have someone else in the house finish the rest so I am not tempted to eat the entire piece of fruit. As I have said before this would be the perfect diet if a piece of fresh fruit and some wine was allowed. The pasta, potatoes and sweets are not calling my name. It's almost like a challenge to see if I can add things back to my diet and not gain any weight. That would be alright other than I am only on phase II (by choice as I like the food choice and control I have). Anyone else experiencing this? I am on week 12 and getting close to goal (8 lbs).

I am sure you are doing nothing wrong. IP says typical weight loss for women is 3-4 pounds a week during the biggest part of your loss....so your 5-7 (typical of men) was exceptional...never heard of a women doing it. 3 pounds a week means 12 pounds a month which means 120 pounds in 10 months...that is awesome.

I hadn't written them in any order, just what was popping into my head...but I agree...meat first (nuts and cheese last because of the calorie and fat content). If I feel hungry or worked out that day...I sometimes add an ounce or two to my dinner (lean) meat.

Okay, first check in here every day...I want to see you make your March goal for Mexico. NO WINE until then...pretend that if you drink the wine you will get sick or something like that. I did want some this weekend (I think because I had it in Vegas and still lost and was not kicked out of ketosis), but that was a treat and should not be a weekly event (I used to drink 5-6 drinks 2X a week..Friday and Saturday).

I have my cruise on February 19th and I am following phase 1 right up until that day. I will knock myself out of ketosis on the cruise, but plan to exercise a ton and keep my calorie count under control...to minimize the damage. Then the day we leave the boat I will start phase one again (travel home day). I hope to undo any damage on the trip within one week. I will then be on phase 1 until May 1st (I am going for a major goal...maybe 130's..size 2-4???not sure). I will have a cheat day March 26th (doing a weekend event in the Finger Lakes Wine Country) and April school break (probably will go to Atlantic City for a few nights...I will stay in ketosis both of those treats, but will have wine, cheese, olives).

I got your back...let's get this done.

I am having a hard time getting back on program after Christmas. Not because I'm cheating, but I've had to travel alot in the days after Christmas and the first week of the new year. My sister lost her battle with brease cancer on January 4th. I went home to spend time with her the week before and then this past week. It just surprised me that out of all the food that was brought to the house - no veggies! All carbs with the exception of a few salads. THere was lasagna, tamales, gumbo, and dessert for days. I tried to do as little damage as I could possibly do amongst all of that. Mostly just did not eat - I know not a good decision either! Drank protein drinks for breakfast and lunch, dinner was if I felt like eating.

So hopefully back on track this week.

I am so sorry about your sister. Something like that would cause me to totally derail from the IP system. Reach out if you need us (this forum).

Ruby so sorry about your sister...seems as though you have more to think about than any mishaps with your diet.
