Hi Everyone,

I'm Michelle and I joined the forums a few days ago after reading about the IP diet.

I have two close friends that achieved amazing results and I am really interested.

I'm a Face Painter in Maryland (hence the user name) and I am a stay at home mom as well.

I have a request:

Can anyone provide the supplements breakdown? I found the Natura Muti-Vita vs. Equate Complete Multivitamin sheet, but I was wondering where I could find information on the other required supplements.

I ask because I would like to know more information before I begin the protocol with my local clinic.

Thanks so much!

~Michelle

Good chilly morning, everyone!!!

I have missed keeping up with everyone that last few days and hope to catch up this morning. I've had a really crazy week with work, evening events, migraines, and just life itself.

PS. It is a lot easier to stay true and on program with the daily support I get from here. I've missed that the last 4 days.

Welcome Michelle! The required supplements are 2 multi-vitamins a day, 1 - Potassium Calcium, and 4 - Cal-Mag. The optional supplements are 3 - Fish Oil, Digestive Enzymes, and 2 - Anti-Oxidants. Let me know if you need more details.

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone has a great weekend... Woke up to a dusting of snow this morning... Not going to let that get me down! The dogs are seeming to enjoy it! :)

Thank you, EatAnts!

Do you know if there is a nutritional profile available for the supplements?

Best regards,
~Michelle

SNOW!!!! I am sooooo not ready for that. I am so cold since losing weight and I dread the winter snow. We usually do not get snow until the middle or late November, but it seems to last forever. I hate the icy country roads that I have to travel every day. I want sun and to swim in my pool every day. I am going to try to live in today and do this winter "One Day at a Time". :D

Welcome Michelle and good luck to you on this plan. You will find that there is amazing support here. I didn't find this site until I had been on the plan for 3 months and I am always happy that someone gets here at the start of their journey.:carrot:

Here is the info I have on the mandatory supplements:
Cal-Mag
Vitamin D 260 IU
Calcium Citrate 600 mg
Magnesium Citrate 300 mg
Zinc Citrate 20 mg

Potassium Calcium
Potassium Bicarbonate 800 mg
Calcium Carbonate 200 mg

The vitamins from IP are much more absorb-able than other vitamins. I do recommend them despite the expense. I tried for a week using my GNC ones and definitely did not feel as well.

Good morning everyone!
Finally had a chance to catch up on the last few days of posts. Congratulations to all the victories with WIs and NSVs!!! For those having a challenging week I just want to echo "hang in there!!" I truly believe the body has to have some time to readjust. Compared to other diets, this one really does go quickly.
As to the cost, it seems pricey at first glance, but I figure with the amount I am saving on eating out, ordering in pizza and wine consumption (wine is WAY more expensive in Canada than the US), I think I'm ahead of the game!
Dave, I love your reflections on food memories, mind of matter etc. :thanks: It never ceases to amaze me how indifferent I have become to so many foods.
Oh dear, I've forgotten who posted this, but the story of mom's inspiration to 9 year old daughter was wonderful! I am so sad when I see young people overweight. I've always felt I've struggled with my weight, and I wasn't nearly as big as some of these kids are today. It is such a burden to take into adulthood.
Rosemary, I so hear you about the cold! I get chilly so much quicker since I've been on this diet (less insulation?). Thankfully it doesn't get really bad here on the west coast, though they are calling for a snowier than normal winter. I guess I'll take chilly over chubby any day!
Finally, we hosted our "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" last night. It was a big success. Plenty of healthy food for everyone and I was perfectly content with my prawn and asparagus stirfry and salad. Good company and conversation was enjoyed by all.
Hope everyone has a great IP weekend and remember, we get an extra hour tomorrow morning!

You need 20 days and 20 posts. Then go to CP and there should be an Edit Signature. You put them in there! HTH!

Morning all! I am back to work today, and my little man comes home from his grandparents today. Can't wait to see him!

Morning everyone!

I have a question about a sauce I found....Its called Manzanah Chawah All Natural Thai Sesame Dressing & Marinade.

Here is the breakdown:

Ingredients:
-Naturally brewed Tamari soya sauce
-Canola Oil
-Red Wine Vinegar (a no no I think!)
-sesame oil
-honey
-chilies
-garlic
-spices

The nutritional value is:

Cal - 123g
Protein - 1.3g
Fat - 11.2g
Carb - 4.2g

(Per 2 TBSP serving) which in stats, kicks olive oils butt!!

Suggestions??? It is fantastic on stir fry and I would eat it everyday if I could...lol

Good morning all,

Pumkyparry thanks for the pancakes out of the Crispy Cereal just tried it this morning it was really good.

I had my anniversary last night we went to see RED, but before hand it got hectic with the kids, so I missed making dinner for me and DH. We ended up going out to a Chinese buffet mainly because we were now pressed for time. I tried to make sure and not eat anything that was breaded or loaded with carbs (e.g. rice, deserts), however the meats did have sauce on them. Any way I don't think after dinner that my stomach agreed with all the food, usually I would have loved it, and some of the food was good. It just seemed like none of it satisfied my hunger, so I just decided that I was going to not go back and try to find something else at the buffet and just be satisfied with what I already ate. So today I am back on plan and feeling so much better (probably psychological). :D

I hope you all have a good weakened.

I totally agree about the cost! I've had to remind my BF that it's not as expensive as he thinks. Between the pizza, take out, and soda that I'm not having it's starting to balance out (well, a little lol). Made my point easier when he ordered pizza 3 times one week. :)

Also, really glad to hear that after all your planning, your dinner was a success. Sounds like a good time!

Cauliflower is great, its one of my staples! Just a warning though... have you ever had okra before? I've been experimenting with new veggies and that was one of them. IT IS SLIMY WHEN COOKED!!! I think you might be able to cook it differently to make it less so, but just boiling it like the directions say makes it slimy. I guess it's often used as a thickening agent for soups. Still pretty decent to throw on a salad if you can get over the goo.

I'm svelting! 11-06-2010 01:09 PM

Not sure what you mean by a nutritional profile for the supplements. I did a spreadsheet (Excel 2003 (windows)) summary of the main three supplements - Cal Mag, K-Cal (potassium) and the Multi Vita. Because you're new, you don't have access to the Private Messaging (PM) yet. If you'd like my xls, just comment on my blog (link is on the left below my avatar), let me know in your comment if you want it to be published or not. I'll get your email address and send you a download link and approve or delete your comment as requested. :)

I love roasted cauliflower. I tried the same "recipe" turnips cut into julienne strips or sliced into really thin rounds and loved them! I've added dried herbs and spices to the mix; my favourite is thyme. And, I'm "seconding" ButterflyKisses's caution about using the okra. At a minimum have another veg ready to go in case the okra doesn't turn out as you'd hoped.

I wanted to pull this forward from the Friday thread:

I only used the restricted items for about 6 weeks because I was just feeding my addiction to sweets. I had the same response as when I ate sugar. So --- psychologically I could not handle it.

I have and had the same reaction to the "sweet" restricteds, and pretty much anything with sugar alcohols. I don't know if my pancreas reacts to the sugar alcohols as it would to sugar, but I do know something gets triggered and whoa nelly it's a white-knuckle willpower ride to stay on track. (or get back on track, :))

Everyone is so different.

Another board I frequent calls this "n=1", as in the sample size is equal to 1. Your body is your lab and you've got to test things out to see how you react. It's such an important thing to remember: what works for someone else, or even 99.9% of the "someone elses", may not work for you. In a way it's kind of good news that we have to pay attention to what our body is communicating.ea

One nice thing is that as I've transitioned to phase 3 and unprocessed foods, I find the crave-inducing bars and an alternate drink I consumed frequently absolutely tasteless. Oddly enough, I don't remember finding IP foods lacking in flavour or appeal when I transitioned from real food to IP packets in July. And although I find the bars tasteless or chemical tasting, unfortunately they still set off cravings. What is up with that? :?:

I have heard many times on this board that if it is not on the protacol sheet it has to be 0 fat, 0 cal, and 0 carbs. It is none of those, so I wouldn't eat it. I can rationalize anything into working for me if I wanted to, but I know myself well, and I have to follow the IP plan exactly.

When I eat Chinese I go to a buffet that has a grill and I get my vegetables off of the salad bar and the fresh shrimp and take it to the "chef" and I tell him to cook it with 2 tsp. of olive oil and some soy sauce. Right on protacol - two cups of veggies and 7 oz. of shrimp (to my best estimate). It does work - in most situations.

Good job! That's awesome! Especially since they look soooo good. Man, haven't had one in months and now I'm craving one. :p

Just realized I haven't had my olive oil the past couple of days and was wondering if anyone knew how much that will throw me off? Kept protocol other than that, just had a lapse. :(

About how much do you all spend a week on IP and the food for your dinners? I noticed when I talk to the people I know on IP they never really talk about the price like its almost too much to mention. I even asked my soon-to-be coach and he didn't really give me a straight forward answer. I am guessing $120/week?

I think you have made a great decision. I was told that if it wasn't on the protacol it has to be all zeros. I make stir fry almost daily. I add black pepper and a little worchestershire sauce. I have added some spices.

Check the recipe threads for new veggie ideas. The main way I get veggies in is by adding them to my omelet and soups. There are a lot of great ways to make stir fry too. I like cauliflower mashed potatoes and zucchini fries A LOT. I also found that I tend to snack a lot so grabbing celery (which I used to hate) works well and ends up counting towards a good portion of my veggies. Hopefully others have some more suggestions too. Stick to it though, it gets easier!

The best thing to do is read through the recipe thread. I do a salad every day for lunch with a different WF dressing to mix it up. I add in radishes, zucchini, cucumber, celery, spinach and green peppers for my two cups. At night I either do the chicken stir fry, big mac in a bowl, tukey burger wrapped in lettuce with a salad, or a taco salad with the IP chili. Mix it up and get creative. It's funny we can eat pizza three nights a week no problem, but having vegetables twice a day is hard! I guess I should say the first month it's hard, I love my vegetables now! Which is amazing because I used to be the pickiest eater. The only veggies I ate before were carrots, green beans, corn, carrots, celery, peas and lettuce. Most of these are not allowed so I didn't think I'd last on the diet. But now I love cucumbers, zucchini (my new favorite veggie!), baby okra, cauliflower, turnips, radishes, green peppers, spinach, and bean sprouts! Oh and use spices in everything! It really changes up the flavors, especially with the vanilla pudding. Some days I put in cinnamon, some days nutmeg, some days caramel... etc

It gets easier. I promise. The first week is hard, then the veggies get easy, the ideas start coming, read the recipes, it becomes very easy. You will be fine, and will find tonnes of support here.

My costs average about $81.00 a week. That is for 3 boxes of food. I think it is 27.00 per box but I usually buy one six pack of ready to drink box which is 2.00 additional. This week I bought two boxes of RTD and one regular box which made it $85.00. I figure that it isn't costing me much more than my old life style of eating junk. Maybe even less than all the take out food I used to comsume. IP is worth every penny.

Crappy that your coach didn't give you a straight up answer. Here's what I paid:

At my clinic, the packets are about $4.00 each and $27 for a box of 7. So, for 21 packets (3/day), I spent $84.00, depending on what I bought. The boxed drinks (sometimes referred to as RTD vanilla or RTD chocolate; RTD = Ready To Drink) are about the same price for a set of 6.

If you're lucky, your coach/clinic will let you buy individual packets instead of having to buy boxes of 7. If they only let you buy boxes, ask about their return policy. I knew nothing about this when I started but really lucked out. My clinic sold individual packets and let me return packets on visit 2 and visit 3. I got to try lots of different things in the first 2 weeks.

The Cal-Mag and Multi-Vita supplements add up to approx. $50 for a one month supply (total for both). The Potassium (K-Cal) is about $20 for a 3-month supply.

So at my clinic, the weekly minimum average for Phase 1 would be $84 + 12.50 (multi & Cal Mag) + 7 (K-Cal) = $103.50

:welcome2: shindabug! You got a great tip from jency and 100ButterflyKisses about reading the recipe thread. May I make a suggestion about using those threads? When you're browsing the recipe thread, open word processing application so you can copy and paste recipes that appeal to you. Save the document frequently. :D So many people have read a recipe and then weeks later couldn't find it when they wanted it. It will be infinitely easier if you have a copy of your favourites on your own computer.

Also, what is it about the veggies that's difficult? We've covered off the boredom with variety and recipes. So, is it that 2 cups in one sitting feels too much? Processing the fiber? We can probably help if you get a little more specific what's challenging you.

Some of my favorite veg. are not on the protacol, so I adjusted to the ones that are. I have added turnips to my stir fry, never thought I would eat turnips. They absorb the flavor of the stir fry. I do have my favorites out of the allowed veg. I remember in the beginning the 4 cups seemed over whelming, but after a while not so. I have enjoyed IP. I have enjoyed watching my body change and I am really happy with the results. I am a walking billboard of what success looks like and I am not alone. I am glad to have my figure back and I don't plan to cover it up with fat again. As you walk through this journey you will go through quite a few changes. I have found that as my body changed my mindset toward food changed, how I see myself changed and now I look at other over weight people in a different light. My heart goes out to them. I think, if they only knew they don't have to live that way. I also realize not everyone wants to make a change. Have a great day. Judy

another :wel3fc: :welcome: :wel3fc: :welcome: to our newest newbie!

What others have said about sticking with it, keep eating the veggies and give yourself a little time, read recipes (i'm svelting's advice about saving them in a separate document is really smart. Can't tell you how many times I have searched the word "cauliflower" in the two different recipe threads!). Don't short-change yourself on the 4 cups of veggies every single day as you might then experience what we call "the big C" (constipation), which is no fun.

It also may help us to give you better advice if you tell us what you are eating for your veggies, so feel free to give us the details. Everyone here wants to help and watch you succeed!

Went in for WI today -- lost an additional 3.8 pounds for total of -27.8 pounds since 9/25/2010. :D I even had a stressful week but managed to stay on protocol.

My husband called me on the way home and asked me to pick up winterizer for the lawn (we have had a long fall) and so I stopped on the way home from town to do that. The bag weighed 25 pounds. It hit me on the way home that I had actually lost more than that -- and how much 25 pounds is and what it felt like to pick up that bag :dizzy: My recommendation is that if you think you haven't lost much, go pick up a bag or two of something that equals about what you lost and see what it feels like -- it is a great motivational tool :spin:

Hey everyone I would like to share a weird experience I had today when my mother saw me after 2 weeks. When she saw me going inside her house she gave me a weird look and said "Oh my God is this my daughter, or is it somebody else?". I felt weird, and then she said: I cant believe how different you look, you look like a different person and she started crying, then she said that she was so used to to see me fat that it was a big impression for her. She was happy that I've been loosing weight, but what happenned to her? she even told me that she was afraid that I could get sick, which sounds exagerated I think.

My recomendation is 1. check out the recipe section or 2. find something you like and eat it til your sick of eat then find a new something!
I eat cucumber for lunch every day. The only difference is if I drizzle it with EVOO or grapeseed oil and what type of MRS.Dash it gets! I know that sounds way boring but it works for me as I have to pack a lunch 5 days a week. Its a no brainer and it fills me up, and they are kinda like delusional chips (LOL)!!!! I also take a container of head lettuce and pour the leftover oil/seasoning on it for a munchy snack. Killing a whole lot of birds with one stone! Veggies, Oil, Salt, and Lettuce!
Occasionaly if I am feeling wild and crazy (again LOL) I might add celery or radish! Change things up a bit.
