Happy Friday everyone!
Just finished reading yesterday's posts. Jessica, what a fabulous message for all off us! I'm glad I was able to start my day off reading it. Thank you!
I'm svelting - congrats on the bikini underwear!
I was on my Wii this morning and, after all the talk about not obsessing over scale numbers (I know - it's only data) I'm a little worried because I haven't budged. But I was also thinking about how stress affects us. I have been going through about the most stressful 3 weeks ever at work. Thankfully the end is in sight! It will be interesting to see once things settle down if my weight loss will improve?
Anyhow, I'm staying positive. They've improved the weather forecast for our area so I'm going to try and get outside as much as possible this weekend.
Have a wonderful IP day everyone!

Good morning!!

I was wondering....Is anyone else having "zit" issues??

I am on week 3 and I have never had pimple's like this since my teens (over 20 years ago). Anyone else experience this?

I faithfully believe that stress does a number on our bodies. Now that your stress is over at work, I am sure you will see the scale move.

Wow! Lots of great posts this week. Sounds like a lot of you are doing great - that's awesome! Well, I'm starting to get better so boot camp for me... I totally fell off while sick. Thanks for the suggestions for veggies. Gonna try solids today, woo-hoo! Still shocked and happy to say that although it was a cheat, when I tried drinking some OJ... I had to water it down because it was too sweet! And I had only been on IP for 2 weeks before getting sick. So cool.

Anyway, just want to wish everyone luck over halloween!! Have fun and be safe everyone!!

Well, I have made it to the worst day of the year for a teacher. Ugh. Halloween party day . I swear these kids are hopped up on sugar all week! I am thinking a change in lesson plans is in order....(hmmmm, National Geographic videos?!?!)

Well, my lovely scale has been stuck at 208.2 for 5 days. ??!?!? This is my first non-move....don't enjoy it. Have been overly critical of what I have eaten. I am praying that it is just TOM/stress and that next week I'm gonna have like....BAM......like 9 lbs gone....wishful dreaming?!?!

We have our big 2-school Halloween party tonight. I am going to eat before it starts so I won't be tempted to snitch. Why does society think it's ok for kids to have candy for breakfast (as my students have been doing all week?!?!). SOME DAY....when I grow up and have kids......LOL Just kidding!

Hey guys,

Official Day 4 for me. Today was the first day when I didn't wake up really hungry. Hopefully that means ketosis is here. Haven't noticed any other signs (bad breath, etc.) but lack of hunger is the one I was looking forward to the most.

I'm a little nervous about this weekend. We are going to a college football game on Saturday which will involve pre-game tailgating. Afterwards we are staying at a hotel before driving back home Sunday morning. It wouldn't be a big deal because DH is super supportive, but all of his family will be there and they are huge food and alcohol pushers. I'm planning on having two IP packets (breakfast and lunch along with my veggies and salad) before we hit the road and then just winging dinner. I have no idea what or where will be eating but surely I can get just a plain grilled chicken salad somewhere. I have some of the individual packs of WF dressing to take with me and I'm also packing enough IP packets to get me through my snack and breakfast and lunch of the next day. Any suggestions?

Also - have had my first "bad" IP packet. Tried the wildberry yogurt drink yesterday and literally had to choke it down. It was way too sweet for me. I tried diluting it with extra water but it was still way sweeter than what I'm used to.

BTW - smileylisa - I am having a big ole breakout right now too. I figure it's some sort of detox or something my body is going through because I never had pimples, even as a teenager. Right now I have a huge red bump on my chin though.

Nope, no zits here....but my face is quite dry, and my eczema is rearing its ugly head in several places.

I posted this question last night but I probably was on too late and nobody else read it. I'll try again...I have been doing well so far, 40lbs in 9wks, but the inches aren't moving as quickly. I know I'm losing because I've gone from a tight 16 to a loose 12 in pants, but my measurements (in losses) seems to be much lower then others who have posted. I have lost a total of 20 inches. My coach does 5 measurements-chest(ribcage), waist, hips, thigh & upper arm. Is this the same for everyone? Does my loss seem average or low?
I meant to reply to you right when I read it, but didn't, and then couldn't find my way back!

When I first started, I was really depressed by those talking about losing 20 inches in a week, etc., etc., when I wasn't! I finally figured out it was simply different measuring, and what I'm being measured on is wonderful progress for me.

Every week, I'm measured on one arm, my chest, my waist, my hips, and one thigh. So, while in 15 weeks I've lost 21", it doesn't sound like a lot compared to others that are measured in numerous places each time. So, own what you have and be proud! When I think of how I've lost 1/2 foot off my waist and thighs each, it's pretty cool to think about!

Interesting article from Yahoo! Green:
Study: High fructose corn syrup is not the same as sugar
By Marion Nestle

Posted Wed Oct 27, 2010 9:15am PDT

I've been saying for ages that the sugar composition of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is no different from that of table sugar (sucrose).

Oops. A new study (PDF) in the journal Obesity actually measured the amounts and kinds of sugars in 23 kinds of HFCS-sweetened drinks.

The findings are summarized in a fact sheet:

•The sugar content varied widely from amounts stated on labels. Some drinks had 15% less sugar than labeled, but others had as much as 30% more.
•On average, the drinks had 18% more fructose than expected.
•Several brands of sodas seemed to be made with HFCS that is 65% fructose, not 55%.
•The average amount of fructose in the drinks was 59%.

The press release points out one other finding. You know how everyone thinks Mexican Coca-Cola is so much more delicious than American Coke because it is made with table sugar (sucrose), not HFCS? Oops again.

The investigators could not find any sucrose in the Coke, but did find plenty of glucose and fructose. This suggests that Mexican Coke is also made with HFCS (or it could also mean that the sucrose had been split into its constituent glucose and fructose).

To review the biochemistry: Sucrose is a double sugar of glucose and fructose bonded together. HFCS is glucose and fructose, separated. The sucrose bond is quickly split in the intestine and its glucose and fructose are the same as those in HFCS.

The metabolic problems that result from sugar intake are mostly due to the fructose content. Less is better for health. More is better for the soft drink industry, however. Fructose is sweeter than either glucose or sucrose, and sweet is what sells sodas.

At most, HFCS is supposed to be 55% fructose, as compared to the 50% in table sugar. Most foods and drinks are supposed to be using HFCS that is 42% fructose. A percentage of 55 is not much different biologically than 50, which is why the assumption has been that there is no biologically meaningful difference between HFCS and table sugar. This study, if confirmed, means that this supposition may need some rethinking.

The study names the beverages that contain 65% fructose: Coke, Pepsi, Sprite. It identifies Dr. Pepper, Gatorade, and Arizona Ice Tea as containing close to 60% fructose.

If, in fact, the percentage of fructose is higher than advertised, it's another good reason to avoid sugar-sweetened beverages.

hugs

Mamadancer wants to know how many places your coach measures you because her inches lost aren't measuring up to others.
My coach uses the IP manual worksheets for measuring which requires 11 measurements:
For Women: Neck, Shoulders, Underarm, Chest, Thorax, Waist, Hips, Thigh, Knee, Calf, and Ankle.
For Men: Neck, Shoulders, Chest, Thorax, Waist, Thigh
This is a shout out to Mamadancer My coach only does neck, upper arm, waist, hips, and thighs....so my total inches would be less too. To be honest....I have no clue about the inches....I feel that it is such a subjective measurement and can be altered drastically by the measurer. I don't even hear what they say when they tell me.

YOU have done awesome with clothing sizes...major inches. I would say an accurate maximum inch loss in two weeks would be 4-5 inches total. Of course that depends on body fat percentage too...those that are more body fat than muscle are probably losing inches faster.

Keep up the awesome work.

I am going by scale...I am a numbers gal (science teacher) and clothing size.

Congrats to everyone and their numbers!! My week #8 WI was this morning, down 1.4. Ugh!!! Been stuck at that number for three weeks!!! My coach suggested journaling again which i am going to be diligent with. Also watching STRICTLY every single thing I put in my mouth!! Sometimes it's hard not to pick when the kids are around!!!
Keeping to the postive thoughts and have lots of good support, Thank God!!

Hope everyone starts their weekend off good and refrain from the halloween goodies!!!
( I have sworn not to buy anything I like)

You are on the doorstop of a momentous personal achievement. I don't think you'd be human if you didn't approach it with some trepidation. Bur what a unique event. Through the eyes of us from the outside it seems incredibly important and we can only shower you with admiration -- whether you make the goal tomorrow or next week. In the great scheme of things, Rosemary, you'll go down in the annals of Ideal Protein as one of its major successes.

I feel your pain. I enjoy a good time. That is my biggest downfall. I love happy hour type living. Hubby and I are social and enjoy wine and food festivals and lots of weekends away...we are young empty nesters (40, 1 grown daughter). I have literally been locked in my house for the first 6 1/2 weeks of IP. I have turned down every invite...3 halloween parties, 1 food/wine festival, 1 family weekend (this weekend...football game, breakfast in woods tradition, poker game, pasta dinner), and no date nights. I know that seems extreme but I wanted to spend the first two months in a controlled situation...my food, no temptations. so far so good down 30 pounds in 6 1/2 weeks.

Next Friday is my first temptation...I could not turn my cousin down for her birthday celebration in Boston (Irish pub...terrible weakness...love good beer). I plan to eat before I go to the party...I am packing my own food...I am too afraid to eat out and not know how they have prepared it.

Second challenge...one night at Foxwoods casino (Thankgiving night)...again too afraid to eat out so packing a cooler with sliced Filet Mingon...we will have a little treat in our suite before we go gamble for the night....I am pysched that the dress I wear that night will be several sizes smaller than two months before.

Be strong...go prepared or call ahead so you won't be tempted. Good luck
