What do these count as? Protein? How much per day can I have. I asked my coach and he just replied that they were okay to have but did not specify a quantity per day or per week. I stir fried some last night with mushrooms and bean sprouts with sauteed shrimp and I was in heaven....YUM! I really love those things and before I get out of hand I would like to know my parameters. Thanks!
Ohhh the brand I use here in Japan don't have any soy or Tofu.... They're all yam fiber. Did you maybe inadvertantly type a not so nice word for a bathroom activity? :P
I'm not sure what I typed but now it is appearing correctly as opposed to the astericks. The brand that I used has tofu and yam fiber I believe. Each serving has 3g carbs 2g from fiber and 0 from sugar. 20 calories per serving (4 oz).
I use both miracle noodle and shirataki. Shirataki has a fettucine and an angel hair style. They work great for that "pasta" craving. I limit myself to a cup. I only use them occasionally and I don't really change how I use my vegetables on the days I use them.
I also use sea kelp noodles. They are firmer, 0 carb, and more like a glass noodle. They are fantastic in stir fry.
They rinse up great. I haven't ever had any strange tastes or smell to deal with in my food. They are firm and hold up well in stir fry. I have done a dish with terriyaki beef and vegetables with these as a base and it was great!
They have zero fat, 1 carb which is all fiber, zero protein and only 6 calories per 4 oz serving.
I use the Tofu Shirataki noodles from time to time, usually by adding them to soup (yes, I use broth to make soup with veggies and Tofu Shirataki). I make sure the broth is MSG free, and I don't usually use enough noodles in it to warrant counting them as anything, though they should probably count more as veggies than protein, since tofu is soy. I get mine at Whole Foods. That's the cheapest place I've found.
To put this delicately, they pretty much go straight through you...
I wish I had a whole foods anywhere near me I have to order everything online which is awesome for the front door service, but I hate to have to pay so much for shipping.
I am a coach in Salt Lake City, Ut. When we first started offering the diet to our clients I asked our national trainer about using these noodles, this is what I was told:
You can use them, but pay attention to the serving size which is 1/2 C. Since they are made of a plant fiber use them as part of your 2 cups of veggies. So in other words, if you have a 1/2 C serving of them, then eat an additional 1.5 C of veggies with that meal.
I have made spaghetti and meatballs using these with a little of the WF marinara and they are delicious, I saute mushrooms and green onions and add them into the sauce, YUM! I have also used them to make Chicken Alfredo using the WF alfredo sauce, I also add in sauteed mushrooms to this dish, again very yummy!
They really do fill you up. These noodles have no calories, no fat, no sugar and less then 1 gram of soluble fiber. These are the only noodles we allow our clients to use while on the diet.

I have lost 40 lbs in 11 weeks on the diet!
Thank you for the info on shirataki noodles and WTG on losing weight.
