Accountability Partner

Today marks my 7th day on IP. I am excited to see how much weight and how many inches I have lost when I weigh in tomorrow!!! Right now, I am doing the Ideal to Go program until a clinic opens up near me. I LOVE this forum and have learned so much from everyone in just a few days, so thank you to all of you!! I think I will do even better if I found an "accountability partner" to chat with on a regular basis. I've had one previously on another diet and I found it really helps to know that you have someone to talk to, bounce ideas off of, etc...to keep you on track. Would anyone be interested?

Thanks!
Lisa

Love this idea! I'm a few days behind you though so I probably wouldn't be any good to help you work through issues... but I can certainly help keep you on track :)

I'm in :D My family/friends aren't being super supportive, so anyone to help me through this would be great. Plus I work at a IP clinic, so if you're ever needing more answers that you're getting I can let you know.

lisa4972 07-16-2010 07:38 PM

Great!! What do you think is the best way to communicate since it says we should not include our email address in a post? (Sorry I am new to this site and not sure what a PM system is) I'm looking forward to keeping one another accountable and on track for losing this weight for good!! :)

lisa4972 07-16-2010 07:43 PM

Taylor, I know what you mean about family not being super supportive! My husband is (thank God), but my parents and sister are thinking here she goes again on a "new" diet. I can't wait to show them that this is THE diet/lifestyle change for me...and them;)

That's great that you are working in the clinic! Do you love it? I am considering being a coach down the road. I am sure you can help us with lots of things! I introduced IP to my doctor and he plans on adding it to his practice, so it will probably be a few more weeks. I'm looking forward to not having to pay shipping on my packets!

PM is private messaging without exchanging email or phone numbers. You have to be a member for 20 days and have 20 posts before you can use it. A lot of us are on facebook though :D

I do love working there. I love getting "employee" pricing too. I don't coach, although I would love to, and I do get to sub-coach sometimes ;)

sgorny 07-17-2010 01:48 AM

I'd be willing to be an accountability partner, but I don't have the experience of Taylor, just being on the diet for 8 weeks.

And Taylor, is there a FB group for 3fatchicks? I'd love to join!

Edit - oh, there is... but only 35 people like it? And I can only find various IP groups that are localized... any one know of any good FB ones?

Good Morning! Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet, but how do we find each other on facebook if we can't share email addresses and don't know each other's names? Sorry...I am still waking up :coffee:

You have more experience than me!! I think the most important thing is motivation anyway :D

Sorry for two posts back to back, but I haven't figured out how to quote two people in one post.

lookin for loss 07-17-2010 09:08 AM

I still have not figured out how to include a post in my replies... <sigh>

Support- I've not gotten any resistance...my hubby is supportive. I don't think the kids notice (8 and 6). This is my journey and I've not made any family changes.... YET! :)

Taylor - you have lots of support here! And I would imagine the clinic helps!

Lisa - I listed my yahoo IM handle on my profile and it seems to be visible. We can try that? FYI - your handle is usually your email too ;-) Send me a message anytime!!

Eh, I guess we're trusting, cuz we share names on here. There are two facebook pages we use, one is a public page for anything we want to discuss outside of IP. Pictures of kids, pets, things like that. It's Ideal Protein 3FC. There is also one where we DO talk about IP, but it is private, you have to request to join. That way people from school, work, etc., don't get to see the intimate details of our weight loss journey's. It is Little Buddies IP Group.

And you have actually BEEN on the diet longer than me, I'm just about to start week 3. I just researched it a lot and work around it, and do all our advertising and create all our starter folders for it. :carrot:

To quote one person just click the little grey quote in the bottom right hand corner or their post.

To quote more than one person, click the little box next to the quote button in the bottom right hand of their post. Once ou've clikced on all the posts you would like to quote, go down to the bottom of the posts and hit Post Reply. It's on the left hand side, just below the last post of the page.

Hope that helps!:D

Awesome! I look forward to chatting with you! It's great that your hubby is supportive - mine is too and it helps tremendously! My kids are 5 & 3, so it isn't affecting them. We all eat healthy dinners together and they enjoy it!

Thanks Taylor! I will definitely check out the two FB pages! I had no idea they existed! I guess once we are all members of the group, then we can send friend requests and email each other :)

Awesome information! Thanks for sharing!! Now let's see if this works and I did it right! :D

I would love to join in. The more support the better! I have been on IP for 10 days. I think it is something that I can do and so far it is working. I look forward to being a part of this group too.
Take care and have a blessed Sunday!

lkreutz 07-17-2010 09:53 PM

Me too. I want to join. Accountability is what I'm here for. I do train clinics for IP but I need someone for myself so that I do what I preach. There are so many people here that share great hints for success. I love it. I've been bad this weekend though so this is really for me. I'll check out fb.

wow... you just started too? you have had amazing results! good for you!

I'm new to this board not the diet. I lost 70 pounds last summer/fall but then gained 20 back since Christmas. sort of went off the deep end. So I'm back on the diet but needed some support!

sillyputty 07-17-2010 10:22 PM

well you came to the right place! Welcome back

I agree...the more support the better! Make sure to join the facebook group that Taylor told us about and then we should be able to email each other. I posted on the fb page, so you should be able to send me a friend request.

Way to go with getting back on track! I think support for yourself is huge! In all aspects of life, we need to learn to put ourselves first (which is hard), but if we don't...we won't be able to help others. Welcome back!

CheeseCake4me 07-18-2010 07:26 AM

Count me in as well! I need all the support I can get. my son is getting married in two weeks and we will have lots of family coming into town next week. The temptation to go off plan will be huge but with all of your help I hope to get through it without gaining any weight back. Thanks

tle1103 07-18-2010 08:38 AM

I have sent a request for the FB page and also checked out the other one and posted that I "like" it. Looking forward to meeting you all and chatting with you.
Have a blessed day,

lookin for loss 07-18-2010 09:24 AM

Lots of accountability! Excellent!

Well, I leave tomorrow for 4 days at a no Internet access cottage on a lake in rural Pennsylvania for vacation with the family. I've been really good at avoiding any temptations - ice cream, cupcakes - I even made the family spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread last night - No Cheats. I'm hoping my resolve will hold through at vacation - avoiding the beers will be my biggest tempt!

I also screwed up and didn't get to the dr office to pick up my week supply of IP before they closed on Friday! So, I headed to GNC to pick up something comparable. Hopefully it will work out ok.

Also, no weigh in for me after my first week since I will be on vaca. So, according to my scale, I've lost about 5 lbs. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed after seeing others big losses but it's nothing to sneeze at! I know if I stay the course, I'll keep seeing drops and now that my energy is returning, I'll add back in some exercise.

Have a great week and I'll check back on Friday!

OnMyWayForGood 07-18-2010 11:17 PM

Thanks for the FB info... I "liked" the open group and am awaiting confirmation in the other one.

Any support through this journey will be great!

lisa4972 07-19-2010 01:24 PM

Wow! Lot's of accountability! This is great! Taylor will be setting up a discussion on the Ideal Protein 3FC Facebook page (the one you don't need confirmation from), so be sure to join that page soon. I look forward to chatting with all of you :)

Good Morning! Thank you to Taylor for setting up the discussion on the facebook page! Here is what you will want to do to get your accountability partner....go to the 3 FC Facebook Page, click on Like, then click on the Discussions tab which will take you here. I hope that helps :D

It's very cool that you guys are doing this... I'm impressed, and heartened.

Not to be a hard*ss, but there is sometimes a lack of balance on these boards between assuaging people's guilt for going off plan, and holding each other accountable for the choices we make. The best help you can give someone on this diet is not always, "That's okay... you're only human," or "Everybody makes mistakes." But that is almost always the response, regardless of the number or severity of the infractions.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as sympathetic as anyone to the difficulties life brings, and I myself am an emotional eater who's had a few tough years. I am only human, and I make mistakes... but I also managed to stick to this protocol as though my life depended on it. Or maybe that's the difference for me. Perhaps my life DID depend on it.

It's not always an easy program, and I know lots of folks out there face a greater challenge than I did. Could I have sustained another 4 months on the plan if I'd had to? I don't know. But I would have wanted someone to show a little tough love if I'd started to slide to the point where I was no longer on track to get every advantage this diet has to offer. And now that I am in maintenance, I fully understand its therapeutic value, and how effective IP is as a long-term weight management tool. I am SO glad that I did not play fast and loose with the "rules."

Keep each other honest... you all deserve to be as successful as I have been on this diet. I so want that for everyone here... or I wouldn't have bothered sticking around. :)

Oh Yoda, you and your wise ways. I wish there were a Yoda smiley, so I could post it everytime I talk to you.
You're right. A lot of our lives DO depend on it. Being overweight causes so many more health issues. I had to keep going to the doctor, and upping my ante of my GERD medicine. After 2 weeks on IP, I HAD to cut it in half.
And a lot of us DO have a problem being honest...with ourselves. We let ourselves cheat, because we think oh no one will know. it will be okay it won't hurt too much. But we KNOW that's not the truth. So I'm glad to have someone I can be honest with completely, and I hope she can put me in my place. I know she did for sure this morning, but in the nicest way. Thanks!
And thanks, Novak, your constant words of knowledge and kindness. And don't worry, we don't think your TRYING to be a harda**. We know you ARE one:devil:

Way to go Novak on exceeding your goals!! That is my plan as well! Thank you for your comment! I could not agree with you more! That is exactly why I posted this thread. Accountability is just that...keeping someone accountable. If you are telling them it's okay for every slip up, how are you really helping them? If you have goals in place, accountability partners can help each other make every effort to reach or exceed those goals. We all want/need to lose weight, most of us are probably emotional eaters, we have a lot in common....I say let's use the commonality to our advantage and help each other in our weight loss journey :D

I hope I wasn't harsh this morning, but you are a beautiful young woman with your whole life ahead of you!!! You deserve to feel good and look good!!! You should be very proud of yourself!!

Totally agree this is a great idea..... it is always easier if you got a buddy.. that was how I managed 10 months of WW and 40 pounds as my freind and I went together or else I would have never made it, however she kept it off and I didnt. I was lucky with IP as my husband had done it first so he kept me inline for the most part and he has kept it off for over 6 months.

That is awesome! Way to go on your weight loss and for such a supportive husband! Mine is extremely supportive as well, but he is not on IP and is already at goal weight. Not to mention he is gone a lot b/c he is a pilot, so I need the accountability!

Thats right...putting 2 cents in everywhere we are... :blah:
Actually I stopped posting on this forum mid way as I was struggling, didnt want to be a downer and this sort of post back then would have helped, I wasnt cheating I was just not drinking as much water, not measuring my meat, not eating enough veggies and just got lazy with it and it reflected in the scale and well my husband was happy that it was down but it should have been done sooner. :frypan: I am a slow learner, would of helped to have a :kickbutt: once in awhile.

<Caution: Read at your own peril. Debbie Downer post ahead>
UGH, UGH, UGH... that's exactly what I am doing... I didn't think I needed to measure so precisely.. it just seems counterintuitive to NOT lose when you go from consuming way too many calories in the form of mostly carbs, processed, sugared foods. I didn't believe I had to maintain the right chemistry. I thought the healthy change would be enough if I stuck to the general guidelines.

I'm rethinking this obviously. :dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:

I also had a whopper long TOM - again the IP chemistry - and again, I doubted that you couldn't lose ...

and it's really great to hear about life after IP and the phases. Something to work toward other than scale watching. I, for one, totally appreciate the sharing and wisdom.

This is my first day; and thankfully, my husband is also starting this journey. He has fewer punds to lose; but we both know this is where we belong and we are taking control of our lives. I'll be honest, these posts, replies, etc are a little overwhelming. I am pretty tech savvy; but hopefully can keep up with the posts, etc. My main goal is to break from sweets; they have controlled me way too long! Looking forward to my next 50+ years. Would love to connect via FB; will take a look at those pages!
