Newbie

Hello,

Just started my first day on IP...Had Wildberry Yogurt for breakfast...Leek Soup for lunch...So far, so good. I had to really slug down the wildberry yogurt drink...it tastes really sweet, maybe a little too sweet. In any case, I'm excited to get started and start seeing some results.

I know that IP suggests that we eat iceberg lettuce in unlimited quantities. Does anyone know if we can eat unlimited amounts of Romaine lettuce? It just seems like such a better choice to me. Just my opinion, of course, but iceberg doesn't really have any nutritional value.

I'm looking forward to sharing my successes with you all and hope that, at some point, I can contribute to the discussions as well!!!

Thanks and have a great day!

Deena

Welcome! I'm on day 4. For me day 3 was the hardest, today is better tho.

Deena, my coach said absolutely no iceberg lettuce. Maybe other people are different, but I eat romaine hearts and I'm losing weight just fine. Iceberg has no nutritional value and can really cause stomach issues in some people. Welcome and Good luck! :-)

Sweetstina 06-06-2010 07:10 PM

I couldn't stand the yogurt drink, probably because I love real yogurt and was hoping it would taste similar (it doesn't). I believe that all lettuce is ok except for spring mix, which is considered a veggie.

jlewis88 06-06-2010 07:46 PM

I was told that I could eat any lettuce I would like to. I've only been on IP for 3 days so far and am losing weight. I've had both Iceberg and Romaine and am having no issues losing weight. I'm down 9lbs so far in 3 days so I would say it hasn't had an effect either way..

I'm just one day ahead of Stacey41 and ohh my, my day 3 was hard too. I had a hard time getting out of bed... infact, I felt so out of it that I went back to bed after I had breakfast and slept another couple hours then i felt good

Sweetstina 06-06-2010 08:16 PM

Stick with it AngieEH and Stacey41...it really does get easier! On Day 2 I couldn't even get out of bed because of a migraine and extreme nausea. I kept with it though and I must say that the past month has flown by. I haven't cheated once, nor have I wanted to. My previous diet consisted of diet coke and fast food. Since starting IP, I haven't had either. It's been an amazing experience for me so far! You can do it!

AngieEH 06-06-2010 08:26 PM

my coach commented on the yogurt consistency being kinda off so I avoided it. What I don't like are the puddings - so far, I tried banana and strawberry. Halfway through the strawberry one, I nearly chucked it out.. so I experimented by adding some water, some ice and blended it up - it ended up being like an icy dessert. The texture was gone, the flavour was very light but I finished it

my faves so far are herb and cheese omlette, orange pancake and crepe. (my coach let my have restricted foods because she said she just got a memo about how they are changing from no restricted packs in the 2-3wks to now being allowed)

To all newbies:

I too am on day four. I must say I love IP! I have had a couple mild headaches and a few hunger pains, but I must say this plan is so easy to follow. I already feel better.

I have had fun the past two days playing around with the packets. Being at home for the weekend, I had access to a blender all day. I am getting quite good at making chocolate/coffee shakes for breakfast. Today I took my raspberry jello and put it in the blender with ice and water. I added a spoon of splenda. After I blended it up, I poured it into a bowl and ate it like ice cream. Awesome!!

This evening for a snack, I decided to put the vanilla pudding in the blender. I added ice and water with a couple spoons of splenda, a tiny splash of almond extract and some cinnamon. It was actually more like ice cream than pudding. Again, awesome. I am just so excited. I really think I am going to get to goal on this program!:carrot::carrot:

Just keep going and be creative. Check out all the recipe posts for ideas.

Loving it! I can't wait for my first weigh in on Thursday.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. Im starting tomorrow and Im very excited about it!!

Hi,

Day two was a little rough for me today. I guess it is going to take a while for me to figure out how to schedule my meals. I usually don't eat anything until 9:30 and today I was shaking by that time. I had the Pineapple Banana drink and I think I'm going to trade that in for some more chocolate drinks. That was great last night. That is my only rough patch, so far. I feel pretty good and I'm hoping that Day 3 will go without a hitch.

I am so glad that I found you all...This is the first time I have used a weight loss method that is so regimented. I think it's going to be great. I'm really tempted to check my weight, but I've promised myself and my coach that I will wait until my weigh-in on Monday. Thanks in advance for everyone's support! You've already made my day!

Thanks again!

deena

Day one is going great so far.........I got a little hungry this afternoon so I ate a protein bar which is a no no but it helped.

Good luck everyone hope to keep posting and encouraging one another

I'm almost done with day two now...the wildberry yogurt was awful. My favorite so far was the pina colada drink. I had the lemon pudding last night, and it was not great, but edible. I think I'll try the whole blender thing, maybe with some raspberry extract or something. And tomorrow I'm going to try the cappachino drink with some coffee - I'm having caffeine withdrawals I think. I'm hopeful tomorrow (my day 3) isn't as rocky as many other posts I've read. So far it hasn't been too bad!

Don't worry! It gets better. I was sick and felt horrible for about 4 days. On day 5, I woke up a new woman, I swear. Your body is probably detoxing and going through many changes. Keep with it, it DOES get better!

beckywelch 06-09-2010 09:18 AM

xanthia, thanks for the encouragement... I'm definitely not giving up without a fight :)

Hey all! I am on day 9 and I still have cravings for carbs! Does this go away? I have my 1st weigh in today and i am excited to see if I lost any weight. My clothes are still really snug but I am trying to stay positive! :-)

kkjensen 06-09-2010 10:15 AM

Hey all...

Well my husband and I just started IP 6/5/2010...so today would be day 5. So far today I feel pretty great...but we shall see how the day goes on, the first 4 days have been rough but I stuck to it and thinking I am finally in ketosis. (I hope!) Really glad I found this forum, it's nice to have others to share info and successes with.

Kira :)

swensbud 06-09-2010 09:55 PM

So Day 4 is in the books for me and this morning was awful...I felt sick to my stomach after I got to work...shaky and dizzy...Then it went away. I don't know if it was anxiety about life in general or IP related. Anyway, I take meds for high cholesterol and high blood pressure, so I had my BP taken and it was great.

Oh well...the rest of the day was fine. I've given up on the fruity drinks...I'm going to trade those in for chocolate drink mix. I haven't tried the vanilla pudding or the lemon pudding that i bought...I think that tomorrow afternoon, I will put together one of the puddings with some cinnamon and freeze it. I am trying to save the chocolate for breakfast!!!

My coach called to check in and she was so sweet! I am very excited to weigh in on Monday. I promised myself that I wouldn't weigh myself before then and it's killing me. I work in a school and occasionally check my weight in the nurse's office. I feel bad that I've been avoiding the office, but it's way too tempting. I really want to see what the first week of IP has done for me!!! And what I've done for myself!

Have a great Thursday!!! Good night!

Deena

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing something wrong...I am almost done with day 4, and aside from being tired all the time (which I am normally, low iron anemia) I haven't really noticed a difference. I have been diligent in making sure I'm only having the right veggies and weighing my protein, etc... and I'm drinking about 8 of the IP shake cups of water a day (sometimes more)...Shouldn't I be experiencing a change into ketosis by now?

The good news, is that being more responsible about my food seems to be helping. My scale (named Sybil because she likes to tell me something different every time I step on her) told me that as of the start of my day 4 I was down 4.5 pounds... Again - extremely happy about that, but just wondering if maybe I'm doing something I shouldn't be (or not doing something...)

Glitterous...WELCOME!!! You will love it! Can't wait to hear how great you are doing :)

Regarding the lettuce questions... i was told that I can have only 3 types of lettuce: iceberg, romain or butter lettuce. i like the butter lettuce best!

Hi, let me introduce myself? I was 68 last Saturday, widowed 20 years, have a son, daughter-in-law, and 2 year old grandbaby, who live in Berlin, and a 99 year old father, who lives on the east coast of the states. I'm on an island in the Pacific, where I was working when I retired. I also have two wonderful pets -- Andy the Cat who'll be 18 on Bastille Day and a 5 month old male Papillon.

I've had 3 major weight gains in my life: when I stopped nursing and thought I could still eat 1,000 extra calories a day; when I developed hypothyroidism (which wasn't diagnosed until I gained 30 pounds); and since I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue I've not been able (or, more likely, not willing) to exercise at the levels I used to. Enough ! I said on my birthday. Enough relying on being small boned to hide fat, and so on, and so on.

So here's my goal -- to lose 40+ pounds, exercise at least enough to give the puppy a good work out, and go to Germany for a while to watch the baby grow. In other words, re-write my life which has gotten to be a rather boring read in the past few years. I'll gratefully take all the help I can get. Over the past few days I've read almost the entire I P blog and have loved every one -- so informative and so encouraging, so caring.

The funny thing is I've been waiting since last Thursday to get started. There's only one IP coach in Hawai'i and she's on a different island so I'm doing this pretty much by e-mail and slow mail. VERY slow mail. Next USP
delivery late Monday so the earliest I will get started is Tuesday. The only reason I mention this, and it's kind of funny, is that I think there must be some agonies waiting to start not unlike waiting to stop. Cheers.

HI All,

I am on day 8!! Weekends are always the most challenging for me but I made it through. I just really tried to stay out of the kitchen. I have been drinking lots of water to avoid feeling hungry....it's working. A little trick I learned on another program was drinking warm water. I have a cup of boiling water and sip it like coffee....it gives you the comfort of something warm without the calories or caffeine.

I tried to work out Saturday morning before having anything to eat and I was barely able to. Energy level was so low. I did mild cardio for an hour. Going forward I am going to have a shake before I hit the gym.

Stay strong!!!

We're on the same day :) This weekend was really hard for me as well... I definitely get more water in while at work, and everyone at home seems to eat ALL WEEKEND LONG!!! But the first weekend is done, so we press on :)

Way to go with the cardio. I haven't done any massive exercising yet, just some very brisk walking. I have found the fitday thing is a great motivator, telling you how much you've burned versus what you've taken in. Keep going, you're doing a great job!!!
