Has anyone had success using alternatives such as ProtiDiet from Nashua Nutrition? I would really like to order some of their stuff but worried some won't qualify. How do I know if something should be a restricted item? Do I go by the Carbs?

Thanks!

I think this may be a phase 3 sheet? I'm not all that familiar with Phase 3 so I can't say for sure but generally here is how phase 1 goes:

Breakfast: 1 IP Packet Equivalent (generally a drink or bar for those on alternatives), Coffee (Optional)

Lunch: 1 IP Packet Equivalent + 2 cups of veggies (NOT OPTIONAL)

Dinner: 5-8oz protein + 2 cups veggies

Snack: 1 IP packet equivalent

There are also supplements you have to add, and optional lettuce, plus oil and at LEAST 64oz water. I believe I posted the Phase 1 sheet a page or two back, but if you can't find it let me know and I can post it again.

I haven't used ProtiDiet products, but I have been ordering the Proti Thin Products from Nashua and I have been very pleased with them. Check out this link for downloads with the nutrition information for the IP products and try to stick as close to those as you can. And remember NO ASPARTAME.

Oh, and as for the restricted products, if it's a 'snacky' food like a bar or puffs or something it's probably restricted. I go by the IP food sheet, and I think the cut off between restricted and non restricted is 9 carbs, but I haven't seen that written in stone so I'm not sure what the exact number is.

1-2 teaspoon olive or grape seed oil

regular IP supplements

IMPORTANT: only one choice from each GROUP is permitted per day. ALL THREE GROUPS MUST be consumed per day.

GROUP 1

2 slices toast ( whole grain, pumpernickel, rye, multigrain, sourdough, stone ground whole wheat, oat bran, sprouted grain)
150 grams whole wheat pasta
150 grams brown rice ( not instant)
1 sweet potato, or small boiled potato
60 grams oatmeal ( non instant)
150 gram - 200 grams couscous
50 grams unsweetened cereal (bran, oat, whole grain or barley)
150 grams cooked legumes (chick peas, lentils, green peas, kidney beans)
150 gram corn

Group 2

fresh fruit ( example: 1 grapefruit, 1 apple, 2 kiwis, 150 g pineapple, 1 banana,200 g strawberries, blueberries, blackberries or raspberries.
fruit is allowed, but optional, and must not be replaced with another food group.

group 3

30 gram cheese (about 20% M.F)
120 g cottage cheese
60 g feta cheese

Meat, veggie, seasoning choices are the same as regular phase 1.

I think this is either a different phase, or an alternative IP diet for someone with special dietary needs (i.e., diabetic, etc.). There is a sticky with all the phase 1 info at the top of the IP forum.

Default Ideal protein on a budget!!!

I have tries the EAS drinks also, they are very good. I freeze them also for snacks. I love ideal protein. It has been the only thing that has worked for me. I lost 35 lbs total. Went off diet at Thanksgiving. Did not gain anything back but I am struggling to get back on, career change (nursing school starts Monday). I need to to Ideal Protein on a budget. Can anyone suggest snacks? I love almonds. Can we eat those instead of sugar alcohol bars like "Think Thin" ? They are very good also. Need crunchy snacks for stress. All suggestions welcome!

I have been using the EAS shakes as well.
Take a look at this website http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/
I just ordered from there and they have different flavored soy nuts through Proti-Thin and ProtiDiet. They also have chocolate covered soy snacks, Carmel nut bars and vanilla peanut bars that are very similar to Ideal Proteins. If you order $99 or more you get free shipping!

Hope this helps and good luck!

Lindac, the simplest (and my favorite) dressing for Romaine is 1 t olive oil and a good splash or two of organic apple cider. In fact, I now eat it without the oil, saving the oil for roasting vegetables. (The reason I mention Romaine is because it is so much richer in nutrients and fiber than other salad greens, especially iceberg -- which is valueless as a food.[/QUOTE]

Thanks much, I just bought the apple cider vinegar yesterday. I'll try that at lunch tomorrow

Miranda, I think the alternative plan you are looking at there is for diabetics. There is a plan for them that allows fruit and milk. It is not an IP alternative but an IP plan for specialized patients,

NavyMommy - I want to do alternatives to IP since it's more affordable and I've read through all the alternative product links. I already use Pure Protein bars and like them, I'm on 'ok' with the EAS drinks.

I want to order from Proti-Thin, like I think you are, but I see fructose in almost all of their drinks! Can you email me the products you use that are having success with? I guess, I just don't want to waste money on something that won't work. Thanks for sharing your info.

Sorry, no almonds. Or any nuts for that matter. I'm not a big fan of Walden Farm products but I do enjoy dipping celery in the blue cheese dressing. Definitely satisfies the desire to crunch.

Sure! I have to admit though I'm really boring! I have the cappuccino every morning for breakfast (so I'm not a whole lot of help with the drinks! Lol!), a bar (or similar restricted) for lunch and my evening snack is the the gelatin from Pure Protein. It's not nearly as good as the IP Raspberry Jelly but it's tolerable.

The restricteds I've ordered so far are the chocolate peanut bars and the vanilla peanut bars as well as the chocolate soy puffs. The Vanilla Peanut Bars and Chocolate Soy Puffs come in the EXACT same packaging as the IP ones (even the same writing on them) which makes me think they're probably the same thing.

I've also had the wafers before which are slightly higher in fat than most IP products (they might be similar to the cookie, I'm not sure) and they were completely decadent. I limited myself to 2 a week because of the slightly higher fat content. They do however have fructose in them. I had actually not known we were not allowed to have fructose, can I ask if you know why? I have been making sure none have aspartame but I thought that was the only restriction. Thanks in advance!!

Hi - thanks so much for sharing what you are doing. Fructose is a kind of sugar (found in something like honey or fruit) so that was my reasoning behind avoiding it. of course, I could be wrong! There is so much info about there with alternatives that I'm confused.

UGH - well, I am ordering the cappuchino, the chocolate pudding and drink, the vanilla pudding and drink and the oatmeal. The oatmeal will be my restricted.

All I can say is that Proti-thin is less than half of IP, so I thought I'll give it a try.
Thanks for getting back to me and I wish you tons and tons of success.

I also order from there... I like the health smart bars, double peanut butter, and the chocolate peanutbutter are my fave, have tried the caramel nut which is good too. Had the oatmeal but not sure if it was proti-thin or health smart. it is okay as I missed my oatmeal... the chocolate puffs are the same as IP the other puffs aren't quite the same but okay for a change. haven't tried the puddings... oh and Nashua's proti-go drinks are really good I bought the mochaccino and like it and want more. Hope this helps the move to alternatives for you.
