Hee hee, I wasn't sure if I was explaining it right so I went on the hunt for a picture!
I find it's handy to have on those days when you didn't take something out to defrost or you just don't know what too cook!!
Sometimes I like to have an egg and 2.5 oz of ham with turnip hashbrowns...it's like having breakfast for dinner which used to be a favorite treat of mine!

HI everyone. Sorry to be MIA. I was sick for awhile and just coming around from it. I will try to be more involved in the days to come.
WELL.... I went out of ketosis. YEP, the cough medication did it and then I had the worst cravings. Gave in and still regret it. I am struggling big time to get back to the strict routine my coach requires. OH WELL.. one more day and I should be back there!
At least I didn't gain anything in the past 2 weeks but I sure haven't lost.
I am glad everyone else is doing well.

Hey Carla,
Nice to see you back - sorry you've been sick.
Look on the bright side - you didn't gain any weight, you're feeling better, and you came back!

Turnip fries---I've had really good batches and really bad batches. I did come to the conclusion that if you try to bake too many at once they just get super soggy and oh so gross. The best luck I've had it to cut them into fry like strips, toss them in a ziploc with 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp chili powder, and 1 tsp salt. Then bake for 10-15 min at 475, turn and bake 10-15 more minutes. I think every oven is different so you will have to play around. I also found that when I spray the pan with olive oil they are more mushy than crisp.

Hi, Eastcoastmama, I haven't tried this recipe yet, but it looks like a good and easy one:
ROASTED CAULIFLOWER
Hands-on time: 5 minutes + occasional stirring
Time to table: 50 minutes
Serves 4
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 head cauliflower, cut in small florets
Set oven to 425F. Stir together all ingredients in large bowl until cauliflower is uniformly coated with oil. Transfer to baking sheet in single layer (use a second sheet if needed). Roast 35 – 45 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes for last 15 minutes, until cauliflower is dark brown but not burnt.
NUTRITION ESTIMATE
Per Serving: 112 Cal (56% from Fat); 4 g Protein; 8 g Tot Fat; 9 g Carb; 6 g Fiber; 37 mg Calcium; 1 mg Iron; 329 mg Sodium; 0 mg Cholesterol
I had turnip fries again tonight. I guess people either love them or hate them. Here's what I do: Preheat oven to 400. Take 2 medium to large turnips (makes one 2-cup serving) and peel with a vegetable peeler. Cut into "french fries." Spray cookie sheet with PAM. Place fries in single layer on pan. Spray fries lightly with regular or olive oil PAM. Season with sea salt, garlic powder, and paprika. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn the fries over (I tried flipping them with a spatula, but it was easier for me to just turn them over one by one cause I'm a klutz.) Bake for another 15 minutes. Serve with Walden Farms ketchup. Mmmmm.

Are there certain kinds I should look for? Fat/Cals/Carb counts?
Also, I have a question:
today I took my son to Chik-fil-A and had half of the small diet lemonade (sweetened with Splenda). I asked for the nutritional information handout and here is the breakdown:
11.3 oz serving size
15 calories
0 fat
6g carbs (2%).
My coach said crystal light is okay for the water, but then I read on here that aspertame is bad but Splenda is okay. 1 Crystal Light has 5 calories per serving. So I am thinking the lemonade wasn't such a great idea...hmmmmm...
NSV: worked out this evening for the first time and felt great!
|
I read in Dr. Tran's book today that aspartame is OK to use. I get migraines from it though so I don't use Crystal Light for that reason. Also the regional manager who taught my informational class said it was OK to use aspartame.

Welcome back, Carla. I have had a bad cold and cough for the last week. I found a tablet you can take that doesn't seem to affect ketosis, probably because there's no sugar or alcohol in it since it's not a liquid. It's called "Mucus Relief Cough," and it has a cough suppressant as well as an expectorant in it. One tablet every 4 hours for adults. Probably need to up the amount of water too.

I am confused. Why are we only allowed raw onions? Can we not boil them?

Hi Carla,
I have been ill also. I almost had some Emergen-C powder until I read the label. It has 6 grams of carbs! It's got SUGAR (hidden as fructose.)
I did find some sugar-free throat lozenges. I wish we didn't have to read labels when we're sick......the small print looks wavy. LOL.
I've been off IP also due to the flu, so back on it tomorrow. Here's wishing us luck!

thank you to everyone for the tips and suggestions on the cold meds. My hubby went to the pharmacist and asked for medicine with no sugar or sugar alcohols and was given Tylenol cold and flu. However I am not a big fan of taking any meds and have been trying to tough it out on my own. Used warm oil in my ears and vicks on my chest and throat. I have some sugar free cough drops I can use if absolutely needed, but think I will just keep sipping my tea and hope it runs its course!

Awesome job! I agree that this plan becomes easier with time. All of the new ways of cooking and substituting healthy ingredients for the unhealthy choices I had been making has become like second nature now. I see it as a lifestyle change that I hope to implement into my "regular" life after IP!
Are the tofu noodles like the miracle noodles? I am thinking of buying some this week to shake things up a bit, but am a bit leery of the taste, texture etc.

3rd packet - or final daily packet
For what it's worth - after reading on this forum - I moved my 3rd packet to an hour before bed and that has seemed to make quite an impact on my weight loss. The scale is finally moving again !! (I wonder if going so long overnight without anything - my body was kinda going into starvation mode) I always had done it as my snack in the afternoon - but switched a few days ago to have it before bed...maybe this can help a few others like me where they want to throw their scale out the window due the numbers not falling...

Hi Kate - welcome to 3FC!! This is a great place to learn and share all sorts of things! There is a recipe section on the first page that is super! It has tons of recipes that many people have so graciously shared with us all! Sure made my life a lot easier when trying to figure out how to cook up all those veggies! lol!
I am not the cook in our house, so eat them however my hubby prepares them!! Usually eat them in stirfry's or diced up in my salads, or soups. Sometimes, I will chop up a whole bunch and measure out my 2 cups and
have them as a snack on those days where I just need to chew something!
Best of luck on your weigh in!

That might be the problem, I sprayed the pad with olive oil every time. I will try again.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
