I started 2/8 and lost 4.8 the first 3 days, 7.1 after 6 days. I'm hoping to reach 9 by tomorrow morning, but I'll be happy with 8.

ChelleFL - OMG! One glass of wine is a 3 day setback. That stinks! Thankfully, I very rarely drink anything (alcoholic that is) and hope that by our wine country trip I'll be at goal.
Motiv8edmama - sorry if I got your hopes up. I had no idea one glass would be such a setback. But I do think your idea of buying for future enjoyment is a great idea. I can't remember who mentioned this, but swishing like the pros is an excellent idea to determine which one you'd like. You'll do great!
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I have been using the ketosix in the morning and it will not register anything but moderate ketosis. Is it even possible to get past that or is that just for people who eat NO carbs at all? Should that be our goal to eat no carbs? I thot you are suppose to have some for brain function or something. Also what is this about this diet being bad for our liver? I never heard this before. What is the difference between grape seed oil and olive oil? Is one better than the other? I gues I am Miss 20 questions now. Thanks

You might try backing down and to the strict diet for about 3 days then, when you add restricted only add a couple per week at first and spaced apart then as you add one or two more you can see the impact of the added carbs and at what point your body says "OH NO!"

Thanks Carla! Nice to have you back. I hope you had a great time with your family.
Does your coach allow caffeine? That was one of the questions I asked the guy that came to do the seminar here. He said as long as you drink extra water. I drink 2 cups of coffee with splenda every morning.

I seem to only get the ketostix to the first color on the chart. I had my hubby try one and he is the 3rd color up. We eat the same stuff. I think we are getting close to 30 carbs a day just with vegetables. The IP food has a few carbs but the restricted has 15 or so carbs. I don't think I can maintain ketosis with so many carbs.
I also had not heard about the diet being bad for the liver and kidneys. I think Atkins may be because of too much protein and fat but IP restricts our protein and fat to avoid the hardship on our kidneys and liver. I would like to hear more from the more experienced IP'ers out there.

Of course I was skinny then, but I never really drank that much. The point is that they only give you a small amount to taste, so be selective about what you taste and like I suggested - don't swallow. You might consider taking a dark color plastic bottle with you to use as a spitune (spelling?).
Good luck and have a great time. The company of your friends, the views, and the experience will make it a great trip even if you can't drink. Don't skip the wineries, think of all the positives, plus some of them have tours that are very interesting and most of them have great gift shops, - not all wine.

Great suggestions. I will try the spit idea -- one of my friends just said forget about the wine, there's really fabulous food there that will be a huge challenge too! I feel good on this diet. Why ruin that?
I will just do the best I can... thanks.

You will do great. Life is all about choices and after IP you will need to make good choices. Enjoy your vacation and time with your friends.

I try to eat less than 30 carbs a day (including all veggies and IP packets) and I am usually have large amounts of ketones first thing in the morning. You have to eat carbs on this diet (at least 20 g per day and up to 40 g per day to stay in ketosis).
You are allowed to have grape seed or olive oil on this diet, grape seed has a higher smoke point so it's better for cooking with....
I think some people who go on low carb diets think it's okay to eat large amounts of fat which is harmful to the liver...this diet is a low fat high protein diet, therefor does not damage the liver.

Grape seed oil seems to be milder in taste - I enjoy it now even as a dressing with salt and pepper on my salads. My coach also mentioned that if I cook too high with olive oil - then it can smoke & break down.

I've posted on this topic a few times but for some reason nobody ever responds. I have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and my wellness center has really been pushing the Cleanse since the day I started up. They actually had it added into my starter kit but I asked them to take it off my bill and I'd pay for it later (I wanted to run it by my doctor first).
If anyone has used the IP cleanse (apparently recommended to start on the third weeK) can you share your experience with it. Did it help you to lose weight faster, did you feel better, what are the advantages (if any) to using the cleanse?
Your input is appreciated....I don't want to spend $55 Cdn on something that may make me feel worse, aggravate my digestive track but then if it supports weight loss for most people and is a good thing....then I'll for sure give it a try.
Thanks and Happy Valentine's to ya'll :-)

Okay first time on here, hope I'm writing in the right space. Wanted to say that I also was encouraged to try the cleanse. As I really struggle with not being able to go...and weight loss has been fairly slow for me. Lost lots the first week but slowed right down after that. I had some results the first week then after that it quit working. I have to take about 4 Nova-Lax a day now for it to help.It did not make a difference in my weight loss although I had hoped it would. I wouldn't recommend it especially with IBS.But then I'm not a doctor, You might as well go to your local Health Food store for some senna or Casgara Segrada or buy some milder herbal laxative tea. I found the Yogi brand works well for me. i'm not saying that there might have been some things it helped with that weren't obvious, I felt extremely tired on it as did another friend so maybe there was some detoxing going on. Hope this helps.

Re: Ketosis - does everyone use the sticks? Or as long as we're losing weight - don't worry about it?[/QUOTE]
I used the sticks when I was doing Atkins. My coach said not to worry about the sticks if I was losing weight. I just like to see if I am in ketosis and it was looking like I wasn't and the scale is not moving at all. The ketostix are kind of expensive. I did not have a restricted IP protein today and am finally seeing color on the sticks tonight. I think they are a good tool if your weight slows down to see if you are truly in ketosis. I was hungry the last few days and usually if I am in ketosis I eat because it is time to eat not because I am hungry. I think I will try to stay away from the restricted IP's for awhile.

I had a few off days this week. I don't think I ate enough veggies and I had some very hungry evenings. I even think I over ate on protein one night when we were out at friends. Hopefully, I haven't done anything too terrible.
I hope everyone has a happy valentines!

the coach said that my first three weeks were "boot camp" and basically only drinks and puddings were an option...? Just going by what she said

Especially since that's when I get discouraged and give up. So Valentine's Day will be fine (movies and Bonefish tonight)-- a week of visiting wineries might not be quite so easy. I'm thinking I will just buy bottles of wine for the future-- won't feel deprived and will know I can have some later. This is how I quit smoking many years ago-- carried cigarettes around with me saying I could have one a little later... somehow telling me I can't have something pretty much guarantees I will have it!
Two other comments - I have no restricted foods, but I do have a food group where you can pick only one from it a day. The crisps. chocolate soy, spaghetti and stew for example, are part of that group.
Wondering about the gum? I had some last evening. Didn't realize it isn't allowed. Thoughts???
5 pounds lost. This is the beginning of day 3. Last night I made a list of all the things I want to do in about 4 months. Things I've been avoiding due to my weight like seeing old friends. Pretty excited about the possibilities.
|
actually it's weird because my coach said that I could have the sugarfree gum but to count the carb content in half, for instance if it says there are 2 carbs to only count it as one. However, I have avoided gum due to the comments made from y'all on the board, I just don't want to take any chances!

I know I have already lost a few pounds, which is amazing. Just hoping I can maintain this pace. Already survived my first big "night out" fundraising banquet with friends that usually we drink wine, eat lots of carbs/desserts etc. I was able to pick out what I could eat and avoid everything else.
I was worried I would give in to peer pressure, but so far so good!

that is so great! Congrats on not "giving in"!! Keep up the great work!!
