Skinny Mini and Lovin' It!

Over the years I've gone up and down in my weight which seems to be a constant struggle. My doctor told me a couple years ago that I needed to do something immediately about my health and diet to live a healthy life. Finally, after a diet rehaul, cardio boost, and plenty of support I was able to go from a size 8 and cholesterol level of 250 to a size 0 and cholesterol level of 175. No longer do I have to slam back pills to maintain my health or worry about not fitting into my jeans! Through a lot of research, trial & error, and motivation I was able to lose the weight. Every day I still work on maintaining my weight that I have lost. My favorite hobby is to create recipes and find foods that are delicious and nutritious. I find also that walking daily and having small goals (like looking great in my halloween costume) are a huge part in my success. If I can lose the weight, so can you!

Good job! Thats so amazing.

Wow, congrats on the life overhaul! I'm a little surprised though, according to your profile, you're 5'8" and 118 lbs, which is an underweight BMI of 17.9. Is your doctor concerned that it's low? Normal BMI is usually 18.5-24.9, but of course everyone is different and you'll always have people fall on either side of the norms and still be healthy.

CONGRATS on ur weight loss!!

HaveCakeEat2 10-27-2009 09:33 AM

Yes, I am now at the bottom of my weight limit and I definitely am not losing any more - my goal now is to maintain. I've had several blood tests and exams and my doctor says I am in great health and that my weight is not too low. Members throughout my family do have a small build or structure than most, which is probably why I fall a little lower than the norm but still am very healthy. Thank you so much for your concern! I have met several women that do get too thin because they are weight loss addicts or have physical image issues. Be careful not to fall into this trap and just strive to be healthy and love yourself!

Response to AR4life - What worked for me

Here's some things that really helped me lose and are helping me to maintain the weight:

- Eat low fat and high fiber small meals and snacks through the day - I found foods that were healthy but still tasted great and were filling...this keeps my metabolism high and my cravings calm
- Small goals - whether it's looking great for an event, seeing an old friend, looking great in a weekend dress, fitting into that hot halloween costume - make small and weekly goals to keep you motivated - it definitely helped when I knew pictures were going to be taken at events I was going to
- Drink water - this fills me up, makes me feel great, and helps flush your system out
- Exercise daily - even if it's walking 30 minutes a day - I walk, do the elliptical, pilates, yoga, and light weights on just my arms - best way to get lean muscle and drop pounds
- Sleep at least 7-8 hours - I found that giving your body the rest it needs helps your body to recoup, stay healthy, and lose weight
- Don't eat late - I don't eat after 7 or 8...if I'm hungry I drink water or a diet soda
- Portion control - I eat small amounts at a time always with water or a diet soda, stop when I'm full (physically move the plate away from you or give it to someone else if you can't stop OR pop a mint or some gum in your mouth), and strategize what I will eat for the day - I count calories and loosely use the weight watchers concept

I've listed more tips, recipes I use, and information I've found on my personal website to help others and keep me on track (on my profile/blog).

Congratulations!! Funny though..you STARTED at a size 8...I would KILL to be able to wear a size 8! :)

Great job and best of luck maintaining!!

EDIT: I was just going through the Goal threads and happened to see that I was the last one to comment here. I couldn't remember what I wrote, so I decided to check it out. Brought a BIG smile to my face--I am currently wearing a size 8! haha! I've still got a little ways to go to get to goal tho ;)

That's really good advice!

I wish i could drink soda after like 8pm... it gives me heartburn if I do!

I find that it helps me when I'm dining out, to cut my food in half and place the other half aside. Or I'll split something with my partner and cut THAT in half. My sister likes to squirt water on her food when she's done if she doesn't want to take it home as leftovers.
