I can't wait until i feel okay to run!

Exercise has been and always will be the key method to burn tons of calories...congrats!

Thats really Inspiring...I always find excuses while going to workout....need to get out of this and love running as you do ...will keep on reading this until I succeed....

I'm not an exerciser and I probably will never be. Especially not running. I have tried and tried and tried and I just hate it. Can I do it? Yes. Do I want to? Yes and no. Yes because I hear how good it is, no because... I hate it. But here's the thing, I do NOT believe that you have to do formal exercise to be healthy. It just isn't true. I believe you have to be ACTIVE. I love to swim with my family, I love to garden, I love to walk, I love home remodeling, playing with the kids, and just being busy all day. I DO love Pilates and deep stretching... and even walking on my treadmill. But the other stuff like running and working out for hours on end... No thank you. Just not for me.
I want to be like my Granny who worked hard in her garden, worked hard on her home and just stayed ACTIVE and rarely sat down. We grew up that way and I didn't let it slide until we were in a situation where I couldn't do as much (an apt. with no yard). THAT is when I should've been working out like crazy in a formal situation like a gym or planned exercise. But now that I can do those things because I have a house and a nice yard, that's what I prefer to do. My Granny was 99 when she passed (less than a year from 100) and she had never been overweight in her life. I want to be like her healthwise! She never took meds. But then again, she ate almost all natural foods that she grew herself and like I said... busy busy busy! THAT is what I want, too. My point is, I don't think it's all about just 'exercise', I think a lot of it is staying busy. I mean, when I go out to garden and I'm digging and pulling weeds and hauling stuff all over the yard for hours, I for sure break a sweat. And it does make me want to eat better. So, I think being active whether it be busting it out in your yard or house or going to the gym is what is crucial. People in general have just gotten to where we are a sedentary society and think we HAVE to go to the gym to get exercise. And in some cases that is true! But many people can and do have the option of just not being so sedentary at home and getting more active in what they do every day. And that is what I'm doing. Focusing on trying to eat healthier, be more active every day, and follow my bodies natural rhythms. So far so good. Will I change my tune as we get older? I will just have to wait and see! Sorry for rambling. LOL |
This is great motivation :D

I would like to add formal workouts at some point too, but right now I am concerned about hurting myself. So far this week, even without formal exercise, instead I am focusing on a whole foods diet ( it helps me resist the urge to overeat and I feel more satisfied when I eat), I have lost about 3 lbs, so that is really encouraging. |
I hope to one day experience this "runner's high"!:cloud9:
I've heard others speak of it and wish I could love running, just as much as they do. I do have bad knees, however, and would rather not exacerbate that...I'm hoping when I get back down to around 160-150 I will force myself to run:^: |
After counting calories and working out 5-6 days a week, I've been stuck at the same weight for almost a month, and was getting so discouraged from not seeing/feeling results -that I stopped working out as much. I'm so glad I came across this post, because all of the other posts I had been reading about plateaus, were saying weight loss is (mostly) in your diet! I have been following my diet the whole time, so I started to feel completely hopeless about ever reaching my goal! I am now off to work out for an hour x.x....

And here I was thinking I'll take a day off today :D Time to walk 3 miles!

i cant make myself exercise:cry: whyyyyyyyyyyyyy,,,,,,,, day 12 OP diet wise,,,, but i cant move my big fat *** to go for a walk ,,,,,,:cry::cry: im a lazy loser!!!!
i admire u all ........ |
I agree with JustJ280. I even read in one of the recommended books that living an active life is what we need to do and what a difference a lot of small increases in activity make. Gardening does count! We may have to adjust our idea of our own perfect body a little, but I believe we can be fit and healthy and attractive without such a single-minded focus on exercise. I sure hope so anyway.
After one of these ultimate exercise posts, I always feel very discouraged. Don't get me wrong - if you love it - do it, but I'll bet if I pick a reasonable goal weight, increase my daily activities, and exercise on a regular basis, I will have a shot at maintaining. Read Anne M. Fletcher's book, Thin for Life - 10 Keys to success from people who have lost weight and kept it off. Some of these folks have lost a lot of weight and maintained it with moderate or less exercise. |
Scientifically it makes sense. Just think BMR wise. ( basic metabolic rate)
At my height, weight and age I need 1445 calories a day when I'm completely sedentary. With exercising just three days a week I need 1987 calories according to my BMR calculator. I eat 1400 calories a day, without exercise I would virtually lose nothing as my BMR would be 1445 a day. When I work out three days a week, which I do, I burn 500 calories a day merely because my BMR is upped to 1987 calories while I'm still eating 1400 a day. Sure my 3x workouts a week burn 400 calories each, which equals 1200 a week. But really it's the fact that my BMR is increased by 500 each day, 3500 calories more burned a week, where the pounds are really shedding from. |

Hey, there, you are doing a FABULOUS job staying 12 days OP with the food.
No lazy loser thinking, please! Originally Posted by hamlette: |
