I started with a strick ATkins diet and over the years I have added more fruits and small amounts of whole grain items.....the thing is that I will never be able to "eat normally" again. My body can't handle those high glycemic index foods and as I have gotten smaller, I have to pay more attention to serving size. I think that you can't succeed if you have the mindset that once you meet your goal you can go out and celebrate....eating the same things that your thin friends eat because your body isn't the same as theirs.
