deetsmom 12-29-2005 03:13 PM

OMG, my kids love Nickleback, LOL! (age 7,4 and 2!) No Barney playing in our car:)

Repo girl 12-29-2005 03:33 PM

I am also a fool for 60's and 70's protest music.

textjewel 12-29-2005 03:52 PM

Well, Katie -that would go with the Peace sign! (a bit of trivia - my mom went to the same high school in Manhattan, NY as Peter of Peter, Paul and Mary - and at the same time, too.. )

I am so bad with song names, groups, etc. . . I fear buying music because it's overwhelming!

(I like Neil Diamond, too, though. .)

Okay - this could get embarrassing!:o

I was born in 1963 with an uncle who went to Vietnam when I was 5. He was a huge Beatles fan and, since I adored Uncle Neal, I fell in love with the Beatles at 5 years old. We watched Beatle cartoons together on Saturday mornings when I spent the night at my Granny's house. So, the Beatles areIT for me. John Lennon was my man and I was going to marry him. DH took me to see Beatlemania in Houston, Texas the very night that John was murdered. I got home from my date, turned on the television to the announcement that John had been gunned down in front of the Dakota apartments and I screamed. Scared my parents to death.

In my player right now: Third Day's Come Together

Favorite genres: Christian, rock (I suppose it would be oldies now)

Favorite artists: Third Day and Newsboys are my favorites in Christian. I love 70s rock bands (Eagles, Chicago, Kansas, Boston, Journey - love Journey!!) I admit to having a major crush on Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees (saw them in Houston in '79 - John Travolta appeared on stage -:carrot: ) Early 70s I was in love with David Cassidy & Donny Osmond!:D Of course, later it was the BeeGee's, Peter Frampton, Andy Gibb - and always, always, John Lennon.

Favorite Song: In My Life - the Beatles

Andi

textjewel 12-29-2005 05:09 PM

Andi - I was born in 1959, so we have similar memories - I loved the 70 rock bands, too - Boston, Kansas (that's an angsty one for me. .)

Wasn't it the 25th anniversary of John's death a few weeks ago?

shennie_97 12-29-2005 06:08 PM

I just made a CD with early Janet Jackson, the Jets, Cool in the Gang, New Edition (the real one in the 80's;) ), the old LL cool J and Hi-five and I am loving it. Donald Lawrence, Reed's Temple

What are your favorite genres? Neo-Soul, some R&B (soem of what they are callign R&B now is far from it), some POP (I love that song that goes..."I don't want to be anything other than what I been trying to be lately"...don't knwo who it is), can listen to country, love old soul music from the 70's (temptations, earth wind and fire..etc) Gospel

Some of your favorite artists?
I still buy/burn evey Janet Jackson CD...but I am ussualy dissapointed that it is not as good as the old stuff.

Some of your favorite artists? Toby Keith, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Beatles, Elvis, Martina McBride, Sammy Kershaw.

Favorite Songs? Anythin by Sammy Kershaw, It's your Love by Faith and Tim, and believe it or not...Could I have this Dance by Anne Murray.

wtxchick 12-29-2005 09:17 PM

Shennie - Earth, Wind & Fire - loved them!! I can remember when they would come on the Midnight Special on Friday nights! (Now that is old!!) Midnight Special was always fun to watch. Of course, I watched Saturday Night Live back in the days of the original "Not Ready for Prime Time Players".

Julie - Yes! I am trying hard not to buy some of the memoriabilia books that are at Barnes and Nobles right now on John. At our last church, the kids in the youth group bought me one of those purses that have the Beatles on them. I carry it to church!:o In 1993, my sister and I went to see Paul McCartney (her idol!) at the Astrodome in Houston and he started the concert with a montage of Beatle clips and songs. It was great. As for angst...my class song (graduated in 1981) was "Carry on My Wayward Son..." Every time I hear that song, I go back to being 17 again!:dizzy:

And, I do make myself listen to pop radio sometimes because I promised myself that I would not become my dad. When I was a teenager, he still thought that Andy Williams and Frank Sinatra were the only music to listen to. In fact, he took us to see Andy Williams one time (not bad, really, but who would admit it as a teenager?).

As for country music, that was DH thing. I adopted it for the two years we dated before we got married (loved George Strait!), but I never listen to country music now.:p

Andi

Repo girl 12-29-2005 09:41 PM

Garth Brooks, The Dance, is my angst song. It was sung at my cousins funeral. He was like a brother to me, and the first close death I had to deal with. I was 15, he was 17. A few years later, my DS's and I camped out overnight for GB concert tickets. When he sang that song, I cried my eyes out. I will never forget that.

Did I mention that I LOVE Bryan Adams, Summer of 69, Everything I Do, I Do It For You, many others.

Star 12-30-2005 09:15 AM

I should have mentioned from childhood - ELVIS, Brenda Lee, Hank Williams, Rickey Nelson, Dion (loved him), the Temps, Supremes....
Dylan, Neil Young, Carly Simon, Maryanne Faithfull, Credence Clearwater, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix......

textjewel 12-30-2005 09:29 AM

Yes, Star - that's what I remember from the 60's . . .and how about some James Taylor?

Chklithunder 12-30-2005 09:30 AM

Shennie - John Legend - YES!!! That album is amazing.

Star 12-30-2005 09:40 AM

Julie - How could I forget James Taylor????? He was fantastic and so good looking back then - I had a huge crush on him.....I know I'm forgetting so many........
Thanks....for the memories.......
Dan Foglebird anyone?

Star 12-30-2005 12:56 PM

Shennie - "around the way girl" -ll cool j
I love that one too, you just have to move your body to it....

Repo girl 12-30-2005 01:01 PM

Shennie- The Jets were so cool. I won tickets to a concert of theirs on the radio and went with my sisters and mom when I was in the 5th grade.

shennie_97 12-30-2005 04:23 PM

Katie~ you would have been my instant best friend. I loved their videos and would tape them at DGM and watch them over and over. (that was back when cable and videos were luxuries and DGM was the only one who could afford it ) If our kids only knew about life before carton network and video games;)

wtxchick 12-30-2005 06:11 PM

Star - I'm raising my kids right because they can sing "Runaround Sue":)

Shennie - John Lennon's Legend?? I have that one!

Katie - Yes, I have several songs that I cannot listen to because they have been played at funerals.

And, as Shennie mentioned, my kids have no idea what life is like without all their stuff. They are amazed that I grew up with only 5 channels - and my sister and I were the remote!:lol3:

Andi

Star 01-03-2006 01:09 PM

Repo girl 01-03-2006 02:20 PM

We did a ton of 80's kareoke on NYE. Bryan Adams, among many others. It was so fun, and real walk down memory lane.

shennie_97 01-03-2006 09:23 PM

Julie, I have some rabbit ears in the basement, I still pull them out when the cable goes out from time to time.

Star 01-04-2006 09:21 AM

I think it was Shennie and Carmen that was talking about this, BUT..ok...
DH and I were listening to the radio in the truck last night on our way home, when this song comes on. The words were "All she wants is my pimp juice"
I had to listen over becuz I could not believe what I was hearing......

shennie_97 01-04-2006 10:16 AM

star, you should hear the one about going taking the girl to the candy shop to lick his lollypop, or the one called “**tch get in my car”. That one is pretty tame compared to the ones now.

Chklithunder 01-05-2006 10:14 AM

Or The Whisper Song. I can't believe they play that on the radio. My DNephew (who JUST turned 18) was playing that in his walkman and I took it and gave it to his daddy. But, the way my DBrother is, he probably just gave it right back. My DB is "the old man in the club."

deetsmom 01-05-2006 10:27 AM

For those that mentioned James Taylor...his son Ben just put out a new album, its pretty good. His mom (Carly Simon) helped him on some things and it was produced by none other than Kevin Bacon- LOL!
