optifast (the full medical program)?
on monday i'm having a physical and the lab work necessary to start on the optifast program at northwest hospital in seattle. the program includes full fast, transition, and maintenance phases as well as biweekly lab work and a 24-session group for learning about your food habits and relearning how to eat. the big appeal to me is getting away form counting and measuring and thinking about calories at all for a while.
is anyone else doing this? has anyone tried it before? i know there's a risk of regain, but i'm working on a plan to prevent that. deb |
Hi Deb,
I did Optifast around 20 years ago. I'm sure it's a completely different program by now. However, I did not do well at all on it. I stayed perfectly legal for a whole week and only lost 3 pounds. I will never forget that as long as I live. I drank the shakes only - I believe we were not allowed anything else - and I lost a measly 3 pounds. I was so depressed that my DH and I went to Shoney's food bar and I probably consumed 10,000 calories - I mean after all - not eating didn't work! I just joined LAWL the end of September of this year. I weighed in again today for a total of 19.8 pounds lost already. Now that's what I'm talking about! You eat tons of food, are never hungry, and you LOSE WEIGHT. I hope you will consider something like LAWL. I really wouldn't recommend Optifast to anyone unless it has drastically changed since the 80's. Good luck on whatever you decide. |
