Default Emotional Eater??????

Do you ever want to eat more or less because you are upset or depressed?

I tend to want something sweet when I'm stressed out and depressed.

Any tips on controlling these urges?

Find something else that you can do instead, something you really like: reading, writing, walking, painting, check in to 3FC, exercise, lift weights, dance, call your best friend, meditate, take a bubble bath, go shopping. Make a list of your favorite things to do, things that relax you and/or make you feel better. Substitute something fun to get your mind off whatever it is that is stressing you out.

Karen, I have the same problem - I really have to watch the sweets when I get stressed -- I think it's because I'm used to dealing with problems with food (and cigs) instead of dealing with the problem -- .. Also, from past experience, it's almost easier when you're dieting, because then you're following a plan. When you're maintaining, the eating is a little more relaxed, not as many restrictions. . .

If I can, I try to deal with the problem as well as I can. If the other person doesn't respond, then, well, I gave it my best shot, and try to go back to regular life.

At least this is what I'm trying to do *this* time around.
(enough Friday philospophy, huh)

Definitely throwing yourself into something physical is great all the way around. My best friend and I walk at night and afterwards, anything that was bothering us seems so silly. If you MUST satisfy a craving in a pinch, how about one of your LA Lites or some fruit?
