Gaining on night shift?

Hello all! First time poster, long time follower here :)

I started following The South Beach Diet on July 1/15, and had a terrific loss of 12 pounds the first week. The second week, I was losing about 0.2 pounds per day, which was great.

I am nurse at my local hospital, and flip from days to nights fairly regularly. When I was losing weight, I was either on a day off or I was working day shift.

The past 3 days, I have been working night shifts, the first ones since starting my diet. Now all of a sudden, in the middle of week 2, I have jumped up 3 pounds! The food I am eating while at work is the same as I would eat if I were working days. I sleep about 6 - 7 hours during the day.

Can flipping from days to nights and back again cause me to gain weight? I don't snack on extra foods, and even refused the delicious pizza that one of the girls had brought in last night.

Hi Sheepie! :wel3fc: Glad you finally joined! Don't let that weight throw you off. It's just water weight as your body tries to adjust to your new eating times. It's not fat. You haven't taken in enough additional calories to gain fat. Just keep eating well (great job, btw!), drink plenty of water so your body will release that extra water, and your efforts will continue to pay off!

Thanks for the kind welcome! Also, thank you for your reassurance :) I will keep on keeping on, and try not to be so worried about it. I drink like a fish at work, it is sooooo dry there! I am hoping now that I am off nights for a while, my weight will start to regulate a bit better.
