Intuitive Eating Questions

I'm so fed up with dieting. I looked on Amazon to see what books they had on Intuitive Dieting. Two of the books peeked my interest. One is by Evelyn Tribole and Elise Resch and the other is a kindle book by Josie Spinardi. I wondered which book people on here preferred or if you even used any other resources besides this forum? Any tips, etc. would be appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to Intuitive Eating, it is life changing indeed. I was so sick of dieting too, I couldn't imagine how the more control I tried to exert over my eating the more out of control it got. It's like the moment I told myself "no more grains" is when I got huge cravings for grains. Same thing with sugar, with fat, with calories, with you name it. As soon as I restricted myself on anything it was like a cue, my body could only hold itself back for a very short time before it rebelled.

The Tribole book is sort of like the bible in IE. I'm reading it now under the guidance of my nutritional therapist. But I really got a lot out of Overfed Head which was a short read and a good intro into the concept of IE. I went on to Overcoming Overeating which was also good. I have not read the Josie Spinardi book but others have in the Intuitive Eating thread you may want to visit us there. I have Josie Spinardi has some youtube episodes though that I have watched and have really really enjoyed so check those out.

IE changes your life, not just your eating. It has helped me become aware of my body in so many ways. It has helped me deal with my anxiety and stress in a real way, not just by stuffing myself with drive through chicken wings while hiding in an alley somewhere. My husband swears I have had a personality transplant, I'm calm and don't freak out over anything. I've learned to be mindful, I meditate and I look forward to exercise, eating is so pleasurable now. I can actually taste all my food and enjoy it rather than beating myself up over every bite I take. The best part of IE is getting rid of the guilt that has plagued me over eating. I do hope it does the same for you.

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and ordered "Intuitive Eating" and "Overfed Head". I have Paul McKenna's "I Can Make You Thin", which I believe would follow the IE eating plan at least somewhat so I will start tomorrow and use that as my guide until I get the other two books.

I don't know much about Paul McKenna other than he uses some kind of hypnotherapy? Not sure what that has to do with IE, but I think I have hard that he employs IE techniques.

I started with mindful eating.

I love Spinardi's book. I also have Paul McKenna and would classify I Can Make You Thin as IE. He also does do more NLP/hypnotherapy too.

I remember enjoying his four principles as well:

When you are hungry, EAT

EAT WHAT YOU WANT

Eat CONSCIOUSLY and enjoy every mouthful

When You Think You Are Full, STOP Eating
