I lost by calorie counting aiming for 1200-1400 calories a day. I try to cook/prepare all my food myself from scratch so I know what's going into everything.
I eat 3 meals ~ 300-450 calories, and 1-2 small snacks (100-200 calories) spaced out throughout the day. I drink a lot of water and green tea eliminating drinking my calories because if I'm not careful, a Starbucks coffee can be 300-400 calories so I've switched to espesso with skim milk. I go low carb because fruits and vegetables have carbs too. I need my carbs to exercise without feeling light headed so I try to aim for whole grains like brown rice, whole-wheat pasta and other whole grains. Good luck with everything. |
I second calorie counting, it's free (well except for the food of course).
I've lost all of my weight with some version of calorie counting and the last 30 lbs with just straight forward traditional calorie counting/food journaling. It's the way to go for me and will be my maintenance plan as well. Check out the calorie counting forum for more info. |
I'm personally doing the Herbal Magic program right now and REALLY enjoying it and SEEING results.
However if you're looking for a low carb or 'no' carb diet that actually works google Naturopathic Diet or purchase the book 'The New Naturopath Diet' by Dr. Penny Kendall-Reed (plenty of great recipes, too). I did this in the past, and it truly works if you follow it, but with the medication I was taking, I was unable to stay with it because I needed more carbs. |
I agree with InControl2Day

One of our thread members, BibBob, recently wrote a synopsis of the plan, which I think is good: Here's 3 things to stop doing: 1. Eating grains even whole grains are poison 2. Eating refined sugars this is a huge list of products 3. Eating refined oils this is a bigger list! Don't do those three and you are basically primal! No need for obsessing over counting calories and tracking macros. Completely conquer those three and eat what remains somewhat balanced and you will see results. Here's ten things you should try to do: 1. Eat lots of animals and plants. think of plants as those you can eat raw - no grains 2. Move around a lot at a slow pace. the science is very solid behind this - take a long leisurely walk 3. Lift heavy things. one a week keeps the muscles strong and healthy 4. Run really fast every once in a while. I do this in the pool. It stokes fat burning hormones 5. Get lots of sleep. not so easy for me, but try 6. Play. what a change in my spirit to start playing more 7. Get some sunlight every day. when the sun it out, you should visit it 8. Avoid trauma. good advice here 9. Avoid poisonous things. this includes lots of food stuff 10. Use your mind. read GCBC, then move to the next |
