Substitute for fish?
 
Is there a substitute for fish? A lot of diet and meal plans include fish (my current one does) and for the life of me, I just have not been able to consume fish! Been like that since i was a child:(

I know it's 'brain food' but i just don't eat anything that comes from the sea... i dunno why:?: i must have been attacked by fish when i was younger!:D

So, what am i missing out on? Is fish really important? Is there a 'substitute'?

fish like salmon and tuna contain a lot of healthy fatty acids (commonly known as omega's)--of course, you can substitute them with a little pill (i get one every day, even though i do eat fish).. other than that--even though i am not nutritionist, mind you-- i believe fish in general to be quite lovely and low-kcal option for a main meal.

substitute them with chicken breast if you really really cannot stand them.

I strongly recommend that you consider taking fish oil supplements. It won't provide all the nutrients that are in fish, but it's a nutrient that is widely recognized as incredibly important and widely lacking in diets. I like fish and eat a fair bit of salmon and tuna (which are fatty fishes, containing significant amounts of omega 3s, unlike white fish which is what most non-fish eaters try to tolerate) and I still take the supplements. Google for info on them. I keep finding new benefits to taking them.

After watching the documentary "End of the Line" I gave up fish.

If you feel you are missing out on the fatty acids, then supplements will cover you. I believe flax seed is the best non-fish source of Omega 3. Dairy, eggs, and grass-fed beef are also decent sources. If you choose to do fish oil, make sure it is sourced from small, sustainably harvested species.
