Hi,
How is everyone doing?
I weighed myself again today, and I have lost another pound-6 now total. When I started up again, I was a very tight size 18-now they are fitting a bit more comfortable-so I am seeing progress.
I did abs and upper body yesterday, as well as a short walk and 10 minutes on the bike. I had to exercise in a few small intervals, because we were pretty busy. Today is buns, thighs, and calves...and I am not loking forward to it. I am much stronger in my upper body and it doesn't burn near as much, and my calves are pretty strong-but man-I have to count through reps in the buns and thighs to keep my mind off the burn so I will make it! :^:
I am hoping to get a nice walk in today with Raiden again, too. Has anyone tried to new Special K bars yet? They have them at Wal-Mart. They are not a meal replacement bar-more like a snack bar or granola bar, but they are really good, and only have 90 calories-most chewy granola bars average 120-so you are saving a few there...the blueberry ones have a blueberry muffin flavor to them, but more crunchy. It was a nice find, and would be a good quick on the go breakfast if you added a yogurt cup or a cup of orange juice.
Let me know how you are all doing!

Its a sunny Friday here,,,and feeling good !!

Aphil~~ You are doing so great with those pounds melting away, you are on a roll!!! :flow2:

I am doing great! I hope the scale will reflect that on Monday!
I havent had any moments of weakness at all. I have been searching all the WW sites and looking at new recipes to try. It helps when you have a variety and not the same old thing, that is when boredom sets in.

So how is the rest of the gang today? I hope you all are having a great Friday!

Well gotta go and get ready to meet a at friend at Subway for lunch. MMMMMM,, veggie sub(no cheese) and baked lays...so good!!

See everyone later...

Nancy

Hi all,
Snowey-I have some real good cookbooks-some just lower calorie and fat, and one is an older Weight Watchers one-if you or anyone would like, I can put up a recipe here now and then so you all can try something different.
I love Subway, too...I was thinking about going there tonight also for a turkey sub no cheese...they have the best bread there.
I have been making my daily salad a bit more "special". I have been getting the salad with romaine and iceburg lettuce-romaine has more vitamins and antioxidants-and I really like the blend. I have been getting some of the boxed "restaurant style" croutons-there is just a few in the serving size, but they are the big cut real good ones like they have at steak/seafood restaurants...that 30 calories makes it SO much better with all the seasonings.
I also saw a veggie lovers premixed salad in the bags in the produce section I am going to have to try-it had bigger arrot pieces, radishes, and a few other things in it.
I have also decided to get myself a subscription to Fitness magazine sometime this month. I buy one off the rack each month and it has some good stuff in there-and it is half the cost if I have it mailed straight to me-I mean, I buy it anyway, so why not? I know what will come next...Jason will want one to American Iron or Easy Riders or something like that...
Has anyone heard from Willbethin? She used to post here all of the time, then went to Somersizing, then came back, then to Body for Life, then came back, and I haven't heard from her in ages. She was a great gal-but went from program to program a lot, instead of giving one a real good chance and sticking with it. We all tried to motivate her-I hope she is doing alright.
Well, better go-Jason will be home soon.
Take care!
Aphil

Hello to everyone,

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. Its a beautiful day here so the dh and I went for a walk and stopped at the park and swung on the swings for a bit....ahh to be a kid again.

Aphil~~ Your posting of recipes sounds great! I made a WW Broccoli/Cauliflower salad to take to dinner at our friends this evening. It sure is a tasty salad. So simple and if you count ww points its only 1 point per cup.

Maybe we can get our resident pastry chef Holly to post some lower fat versions of the sweet stuff. :T

I am in search of a recipe for low fat apple crisp. Any one know of one?

Well weigh in is on Monday, but even with me being 100% OP I am feeling bloated as all get out :( dont know why though. I hope that I wont be disapointed come Monday.

I hope that everyone is doing well with their programs and feeling good. See everyone later....

Hi,
I will try to look in my books and see if I have an apple crisp recipe, or something close to it...
Last night I came down with a HUGE sinus infection...it is really bad today...I made myself do my upper body weight today, just with lighter weights, and I didn't do any walking or biking...I can barely breathe. Hopefully this will not last long-the plus side is that I haven't felt like eating much!
Tomorrow is my husbands birthday dinner at the lake we stay at on the summer weekends. His family will be there-he wanted bratwurst on the grill and german chocolate cake...go figure.
I cut up a ton of watermelon and cantalaupe tonight so I can load up my plate mostly with that, and just have a teeny sliver of cake, and split it with my son-he usually eats off my plate anyway-this way I can have 4 or 5 bites of it and it will only be about 100 calories. I find I do better on occasions like this if I plan to have a small amount of something in advance, and already factor it in my daily calorie allotment-rather than try to stay away from it and cave-and eat a big slab of something fatty.
I always try to bring something healthy and low calorie to family dinners too, a lot of my recipes taste really good, and noone is the wiser.
I weighed in and I have lost another 2 pounds-8 now total. I am getting closer to being under 200 each day now-I can't wait.
Well, it is getting late, and I need to hit the sack-everyone take care, and I will try to get some recipes up here soon for everyone to try-my favorites are the easy ones that do not take a lot of ingredients.

aphil 08-10-2002 11:15 PM

Tada!

Apple Crisp
(makes 2 single servings)
2 c. chopped cooking apples
1T. sugar
2T. brown sugar
3T. old fashioned oats
1T. flour
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/8t. nutmeg
1T. margerine
1t. water
Heat oven to 375*. Spray 2 10oz. custard cups or individual souffle dishes with Pam spray. Mix apples and granulated sugar. Divide between cups. Mix other ingredients except margerine together, then cut in margerine until crumbly. Spoon over apple mixture and bake about 25 minutes until topping is golden and apples are done.
per serving:
260 calories-6 grams fat-4 grams fiber
(I hope this is all the info you need to calculate it into WW points if you are doing that-if you need other info-let me know)
This is good that it only makes 2 servings-it keeps you from having a pan of it around tempting you!:^:

Thanks Aphil !!

Just what I was looking for..and it serves two perfect for the hubby and myself!!

I seen your stats that you are down 2 more pounds WAY TO GO !!!! :cp:
You are doing so great. And do a good time celebrating the hubby's birthday!

Nancy:wave:

aphil 08-11-2002 10:40 AM

Hi everyone,
Snowey-glad that recipe was what you were looking for-and it doesn't take a lot of ingredients or prep time either!
I will definitely keep putting recipes up here for everyone-I have a lot of them! :D
I am still feeling pretty bad today-I had orange juice and a fat free pudding cup for breakfast, not the most nutritional thing, but I am unwilling as of now to eat anything that involves chewing for fear of suffocation! I was up half of the night unable to breathe freely...hope it is over soon!
Here are some more healthier restaurant choices for you all that I have found-it feels great to be able to eat out and feel like a human now and then!
Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich-300 calories
(it is really good, has lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard on it)
Dairy Queen sugar free fat free bars-they vary in calories, usually around 40, and come in orange creamsicle, rasberry creamsicle, and fudge.
KFC single serving of mashed potatoes and gravy-120 calories
Pizza Hut thin and crispy crust chicken supreme pizza-200 calories a slice-this is great-you can actually eat 2 or 3 pieces at dinner instead of ! slice of some other kind...
I found all of these at the restaurants websites-I printed off the nutrition info pages-they list the fat and fiber also if you need to calculate WW points-I just highlight what selections are healthier and lower calorie as a quick guide.
Well, better go-off to the lake for hubby's birthday dinner!

tryin'hard 08-12-2002 07:57 AM

Hi everyone! I just spent a wonderful 15 minutes reading up on everyone's news! You guys are doing so well!
I managed to do really well over vacation! It was hard sometimes, but we were very active and that helped so much. I planned to get on the scale today, but we came home to an empty frig and went out for pizza last night. I think I'll wait a few days to get on the scale! I like the idea of only weighing in twice a month--I may try that!
DH is off for another week, but I will start getting ready to go back to school this week. My classroom will be filled with the little cherubs before you know it!
Please excuse me for not addressing each one of you personally, but I am so proud of you all for what you've accomplished! Have a great day everyone!

VermontMom 08-12-2002 08:39 AM

Good Morning everyone!

aphil and Nancy, thanks for keeping the conversations going over the weekend! As I work Sat. and Sundays, I tend to not post then (excuses, excuses). But I have been staying on the plan!

aphil, the crisp recipe sounds great. Also good that it's not a huge amound to make - as we know, it sure is easy to "pick" at what's left in the pan 'til it's gone!:ink:

Nancy, I am wishing you a GREAT weigh-in today! You have been so good and dedicated the past weeks; I am sure you will be pleased!

aphil, congrats on your pounds lost!! You are on a roll and on the way!

hi tryin'hard! So glad you had a good time on vacation. Boy, back to school already! The summer just flies. My son's first day is Aug. 26, which he is none too happy about. But that's the way it always is; he'll get "into it" once he sees his friends.

Kina, kewi, Christine, how are you ladies doing? I hope all are happy and doing great!:cb:

Well, I have to share this, though I don't want to be dramatic, but I dropped my motorcycle yesterday (from a stopped position); I only lightly bruised my left side, and cracked a taillight and twisted a mirror; BUT there is actually a POSITIVE side to this; and that is I was able to pick it up by myself!!!
I would have liked some help, but can you believe two cars drove right by without even slowing or asking "hey, lady, you want a hand?"!! It took 3 tries, and I was bellowing like a sumo wrestler (and cursing up a storm, my o my:o ) but I picked up my 456 pound machine! And I am not hurting anywhere this morning, so I didn't strain any muscles. Woo-hoo for upper body strength!:D

I was trying to find the driveway of a friend, so I was right nearby where he lives and carefully rode there, then got the "after reaction" trembles. But my friend (who also rides) actually congratulated me (trying to make me feel better!) and he was able to temporarily fix my mirror. After a drink of water and a rest in the shade, he then said "you know, you can still ride as well as you did before this happened" to get me 'back in the saddle'. So I suited up, and we had a nice ride (with no other drama).

I think I'm down another 2 pounds, which puts me in the mystical 140's. I can't see any difference in my legs, though my thighs must be smaller 'cause of the smaller sized jeans.

Well, I have today and tomorrow off; today is chores, with laundry (I do a week's worth at the laundromat; 7 loads or so washed, dried and folded in less than 2 hours) picking up around home, cleaning off my desk, vaccuming, grocery shopping...then hopefully time for kayaking in the late afternoon, as it's supposed to be a warm and humid day.

Wishing everyone a GREAT day!!!

Your friend, Holly

Hi,
I go ton the scale and am down 2 more pounds! I do not know what is happening...but I am sure it will not ge going this quick for long! My weight loss is now at 10 pounds!
Don't worry ladies...I eat probably more calories than most of you-so I am not starving myself-I eat anywhere from 1200-1800 depending on my hunger for the day-usually around 1600. I stay within certain calorie guidelines, but this way I can use my body's hunger as a cue of when to eat.
My husband's dinner was alright-and I stayed with my few bites of cake, because I couldn't taste a darn thing-only the textures of food.
Vermont Mom-I know all about laying down bikes...those of you who aren't around them, they are a lot heavier than they look. My husband's Sportster is an old Ironhead one-so it is SO heavy....and my stepdad (the one who bodybuilds) is a huge guy, and he laid down his big Harley Road King one day-and had to have his son help him get it back up-it is well over 1000 pounds decked out. I am impressed you got it up by yourself-and glad you aren't hurt! I can also sympathise with noone stopping to help you-especially being a woman! My husbandstopped one day out inthe middle of nowhere with his riding buddy, and he was changing his spark plugs, and a group of "lady" riders came up out of the blue and asked if he needed help, and he said no. When they were tkaing off, his single friend said "What did you just do!!!!!"
Glad everyone is doing great-woohoo!!!
If anyone has a certain recipe they would like in a lower calorie or fat version, let me know and I will find it!
Aphil

Kina 08-12-2002 09:39 AM

Hi, Hello, and Good Morning

I am just making a quick stop to let you all know I am still here. Just limited on time. Next week will be much worse. I plan to start working at the college during the day. Then continue working at night. I think I can manage. I hope.

Well I have great news! I am in the 90's of my scale!:cb: And it is such an exciting feeling but also a very scary thought to eat anything in high fat content...for fear that I may jump the scale back into the 200's:fr: . So I notice I am analyzing everything I eat. Whereas before I would eat my favorites but in moderation and yet pat myself on the back if I hadn't over eaten or gone for 2nd servings or had water instead of soda. But I have noticed I don't allow those instances very much anymore. I fight with myself to not give in to the fattening meals I sometimes crave. Then if I cave I feel awful. Then my old way of thinking of patting myself on the back for not getting 2nds or something to that affect comes crawling back in and then I don't feel so bad that I had given in to the cravings.

I was able to report a 4 lb loss from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 10th. I was really unbelieving of my scale when it read 197.5  . But nevertheless very happy to see all the efforts paying off. My goal is to be at 190 by September 1. I am crossing my fingers that I will see my goal at that time if not before.

I must go and get a few more ZZZZZ's before the kids get home from school and I have to go to work. But before I go please becareful Vermontmom . I am glad to hear you are okay. Aphil way to go. Slow and steady is a great way to lose it forever. Nancy I am living proof that effort does pay off. Just keep focused and never give up. You will see the loss, I'm sure of it!Tryinhard welcome back. Thumbs up to you for making good choices.
Sorry this was a long post. Many smiles to all of you.

Good afternoon Chickies!

I would have been posting sooner but I had the dreaded dentist appt first thing this morning (and I even walked there and back)
I was there for 2 hours  the dentist is wonderful but the assistant is something else. I swear she could wrestle a bear to the ground she is so rough!!! I wanted to take a friggin drill to "her" teeth!!!!!!!!!!! But anyway all set till next week (another appt) hopefully I wont get the same assistant (maybe she will go back and work for her original employer (DR KEVORKIAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Tryin Hard~~~ So glad to have you back with us! Very happy to hear you had a great time and that you got alot of activity in!

Ok ,, for my news today is official weigh in day of course. And the scale was my friend I lost 2.5 pounds this week WOO HOO for me too...
I still feel motivated and positive and gung ho!!! I figured if I average two pounds a week. I can have 42 pounds off before Christmas. I am still hoping for a week that may show a 3 or 4 pound loss but Ill be happy as long as I lose every week. Next week will be that TOM and I am concerned about that , but will make sure I keep a check on the salt intake. Now that I am back into the 190's I am looking forward to being in the 180's soon.
By the way the DH lost 3.5 pounds this week!! I am proud of him for doing this with me. He only wants to lose about another 9 pounds. He also likes the new WW recipes I have been making. The Cabbage -Rice Casserole was a big hit with him.
When I showed him the apple crisp recipe from Aphil...he said are you going to make that today???

Where o' where are the rest of the ladies?? Kewi??? Jacklyn?? Melissa? The 2 mommies to be Christine and Pamela?? Kanola?? Sprite?? T-Girl??? Come on back we miss you guys!!!

Hi!
Kina-don't get in a frenzy now tht you are under 200-with all of the doubt and analyzing everything you are doing and eating...just keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine! I know it is hard not to be fearful of gaining it back, but as long a you keep exercising and staying within your calorie/points range-you will be fine! ;)
Snowey-when it is that TOM for me-I always gain a pound or two right before-ALWAYS-so if you do, and you are still eating and doing everything right-do not get upset with the scale! I do not even weight myself when that week is coming up-I wait until it is over!:p
I am glad you and your husband are getting into the new recipe thing-and that he was into he new crisp recipe I gave out! That really helps when your spouse will eat healthier with you!
I went for walk with both of the kids in the stroller today-I have a double one-and boy, it got pretty warm and I was sweating everywhere when we got back home!
Well, here is another recipe:
SHRIMP KABOBS AND RICE
8 large raw shrimp
1/2 red onion, cut into 8 pieces
1/2 green pepper-cut into 8 pieces
8 cherry tomatoes
8 small whole mushrooms
2 c. hot cooked rice
marinade:
2T. soy sauce
1T. thawed orange juice concentrate
1T. cider vinegar
1T. honey
2t. oil
1/2t. ginger
dash of pepper
Peel shrimp and devein if needed. Prepare marinade-cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare coals or heat gas grill. Thread items on 4 skewers-2 of each item on a skewer. Grill kabobs uncovered 6-8 minutes turning frequently and brushing with marinade several times until shrimp are no longer pink. Discard remaining marinade. Serve over rice.
Serves 2 people-(2 kabobs and 1c. rice per person)
per serving-280 calories, 2grams fat, 3 grams fiber
Enjoy!

WAY TO GO LADIES!!!

Woo Hoo!! Big congrats to Nancy!! and to Kina for the 90's!!! And for 10 pounds off for aphil!!!!

aphil, that recipe sounds great. It's something that my family would like - I'll be trying that!

Am very close to buying a motorcycle for husband - he test-drove one this evening, and I followed on my bike - first time in our 22 years of marriage that we rode separately but as a team! It was a blast.

Thanks, Nancy, I am a little sore today (and alot more bruises have appeared :fr: but I am a tough chick and will learn from my mistake!!

Husband has said that he thinks I am getting skinny - OMG!!! at 5'7" and 148 I'm definitely not skinny...but I am so happy at feeling fit and good. And keep unzipping the size 8 jeans to look at the tag!:D

Yes, where are our unheard-from-friends? We miss you!!!:(

Sweet dreams to the lighter ladies that we are!!!

Holly
