Tall Drink of Water?

Hey Everyone:

I was wondering about the people on this site that are tall like myself. On another site I used to use (e-diets) there was a forum specifically for women that were tall and wanting to lose some weight, so I was hoping that maybe we could get one started on this site!

I'm 5'10(-5'11ish)...I think I've grown an inch maybe this last year, but I'm not sure. I think there are some advantages to being tall, but definitely some disadvantages. For example, I hate being tall and heavier (I have about 30 pounds I would like to lose) because I feel like a giant compared to all my smaller friends. I think that carrying extra weight along with being tall makes me more self-conscious because I feel I stand out more and my weight is more noticable. However, I do like being tall because I know that once I get my bod up to par, it will look great! And being able to reach the top shelf is always nice...;)

Is there anyone else here that feels the same as me? Anyone else that feels totally different about it?

I know how you feel!

I'm 6'1" without shoes...I wear heels to work which makes me about 6'3". I hate being tall and over weight because I feel like a GIANT. Kinda like Andre the Giant (that wrestler):jig: . How attractive is that for a woman? I used to be thin (after my 1st baby) but 2 kids later I'm at my all time biggest. I've gained about 90 - 100 pounds. I really want to get down to about 185 - 190. I've decided not to go on any specific plan...just to change my lifestyle. Eat better, drink more water and excercise. I don't want to suffer and deprive myself of the things I love...I've learned that moderation is the key.

Hey there! I am tall too (5'11"). I love being tall, but you are right be overweight AND tall makes you just plain HUGE! I wouldn't trade it though. I know when I am down at a good weight, being tall is definitely a plus! In my experience, my height really attracted a lot of guys (even short ones!)

Only 5'9" but, I have always been the tall one in my group of friends!

I agree...i need to lose a good 30lbs, an dit is harder i think for us tallbies!

Thank goodness!

Wow, am I glad to see this thread get going! I'm 5'9", so I guess on the shorter end of tall gals, but can definitely still relate! Being overweight is, in my humble opinion, definitely a pain when you're tall. You can never be short and cutely rounded, you're always "big boned" or something else along those lines. And, I get sick of my short friends who are all 110 or so. It's kind of depressing, even though I know I'd have to be hospitalized at that weight! Anyway, I'm looking to lose about 15 pounds, since I have absolutely ballooned this semester (managed to keep the dreaded freshman year weight gain at bay until my sophomore year, but it is now here with a vengeance!). How are you ladies planning on losing?? I'm thinking more fruits and vegetables, less white bread, cookies, chips, and start running again. Any other ideas?

Hey Cat-

Yeah, all those ideas sound good. This summer I'm planning on doing aerobics with my mom 2 days a week (in addition to riding our stationary bike/walking on the treadmill at home)...having someone counting on me to go with them will be very good for me, plus, aerobics is fun and a real work out!! I'm a college student too and my diet is all carbs, so I'm planning on cutting down a little on those too...not too overboard, but right now I can imagine that I'm eating way too many. (but everything else is sooo gross in the dorms!!)

I know exactly what you mean about short 110 pound friends--I think all my friends would be horrified if they knew how much I actually weigh!

I just wanted to say that being tall has it's advantage, actually. If you are somewhat overwieght, like me, then it makes it not look like I am so overwieght. I can be five to ten pounds over weight and still look OK, where as my shorter friends gain a few pounds and it is very obvious.

But that's just my opinion...

Well, my new tall buddies, I must confess that the diet is not going so well. Exercise is really good though, so I guess that's a plus. I am going to start keeping a food diary, for real. I think it's the only way I'll ever be able to get this weight off. So that's that
. How's everyone else doing? I think I may go to bed now...
