counting clothing sizes

  • This is a stupid question but I'm baffled about it anyway. I used to be a US size 24 pants and now I am a US size 14 pants. Would I say I lost 10 sizes or only count the evens and say I lost 5 sizes?

  • I have never really thought about this. But, since the sizing would be down by 2 each time, I'd think it'd be 5 sizes. That is just totally a guess on my part. But, congratulations on the great wt. loss.
  • I've seen size 19's and 21's before...but not commonly. I've often wondered about this myself.
  • even numberes sizes are ladies sizes, odd sizes are juniors. Don't ask me why!
  • Yeah I just ordered a pair of pants marked "15" off of a website called torrid.com

I don't understand US sizing at all...... why don't they just use waist size or something?

Wouldn't that be so much simpler!! Of course, on the other hand, two people could have a 30" waist and one could have 42" hips and the other could have 38" hips, so I'm not sure how that would work. Women need waist and hip combo sizes.
  • I think you should count 5, but most people would count 10.
It's funny: if they went from a 12 to an 8, many people would say they lost 4 sizes, but if they went up from an 8 to a 12, they would say they gained 2 sizes.
