Have any of you woken from a sleep and felt like someone was in the room with you? Or even gone so far as to feel someone sitting on the end of the bed near your legs?

In the house I grew up in--there were footsteps that would come up the stairs. My Dad took my brother and I to a back road near Burkettsville Md and the car was "pushed" uphill by the ghosts of Civil War soldiers.

Also, my great grandfather saw "The Snarly Yowl" which is supposedly a black mass that grows on a back road in Washington County Maryland. He is mentioned by name in a book called South Mountain Magic which is a collection of ghost stories and other strange tales of the area.

BTW Burkettsville MD is mentioned in Blair Witch, which is a totally made up story or would have ben included in the book. My son has actually hiked on the Appalacian Trail in the area where the movie was being filmed. Once while it was filmed.

Anytime I hear talk of ghost stories, I have to talk about the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs Arkansas. We spent our honey moon in Eureka, and one of the things we HAD to do was go on the ghost tour at the Crescent. Very interesting. Very weird... I knew NOTHING of the place before we went there, other than that we were going on a ghost tour. We were on the second floor waiting for the tour to start, and I kept looking down to the other end of the hallway. There was a step up into the next section of the hotel there. I told my husband that I felt like something was watching us and just couldn't shake the feeling. Lo and behold, one of the first things told to us as we started the tour is that many people have reported seeing a figure sitting on the steps, and that there was a picture taken that showed a figure sitting there. We went up to the next leve, and as we came off the stairs and into the hallway, it felt like I was moving through really dense, thick, heavy air. We were told that in that spot, it was reported that there were 2 old ladies who were seen sitting in their rocking chairs talking.
Then the really creepy part of the history of this old hotel is that it was once Dr. Baker's cancer center (or something to that effect) and that Dr. Baker wasn't a doctor - he was a fraud/conman. People went to him for a cure and he stole their money; when these people died they were either buried on the property or incinerated and the family was never informed. He performed gruesome experiements on the "patients" and eventually was caught.
Its pretty interesting. The hotel was on the show Ghosthunters - and if you've ever seen that show, they try to disprove hauntings, but they decided that the Crescent is indeed haunted!!

Angelia, Yes. As I had mentioned, I was with my grandmother at age 13 yrs. old when she passed away. My dad died 6 months later of a massive heart attack. 3 days after he died, I awoke to see him standing in the corner of my bedroom. He said he didn't want to scare me, but was there to let me know that we would all be OK and that he would be watching over us. Now, this was 33 yrs. ago and I still believe it was him. It was scary at the time, but also very calming.

I remembered something this morning about the strange tv incident that happened in my townhome. The reason I was trying to turn the tv off was that I tried to change the channel and the tv would show the number of the new channel but it was the same show! So if I was watching channel 6, then turned to channel 7, it was the same show although the tv displayed channel 7. I went through every channel and all of them were the same thing. So that is when I decided to turn it off and the tv wouldn't turn off so I had to unplug it.

Now for just generally unexplained things: I have a certain smell I associate with my uncle who died. Shortly after he died, I experienced that smell constantly in many different locations. I was pretty close when he died. After a few years, the occurrence of the smell tapered off but the other day I smelled that same smell again and its been about 13 years.

In my parents current house, nothing strange ever happened to me except once in a while, I'd be in my room and I'd smell smoke like from a cigar. It happened a couple of times. The windows would be closed and no one in the house smokes so it was strange. Also, I heard that sometimes "spirits" will do strange things like drop coins or ring the phone or something. Anyway, after I moved into my first apartment, the phone would ring a couple times every day around 7pm. It didn't start immediately, probably a couple months after I moved in but it lasted until I moved out. Sometimes I'd answer it and no one was there but after a while, I just let it go. The strange thing is that it happened every day and not at the same time, it could happen around 5:30 or 8:00 but right around 7:00pm seemed to be the most popular time.

One night I was on my nightly walk and my friends and I decided to do our hills. One of the hills goes aside a cemetery. As wee ascended that hill I noticed a misty fog type thing at the top of the street light I figured it was just getting foggy. As we approached the light the dog that was with us started freaking out my first step in the light I got an instant feeling that I needed to run. of course I stayed calm and we went on, the whole time hearing something in the bushes next to us but not seeing anything. At the end of our walk we go back down the hill we went up the misty stuff (which by the way was only under the street light) was still there I was so scared I started to run down the hill, just to get through it. 20 feet from the street lamp I turned and I saw a dark figure in side the fog it wasn't solid, but it was definately in the fog. I didn't say anything to the ladies I was with until the next day and a month later we still haven't gone back.
