These Squirrels Shall Pay!

Oh I haven't slept much the past few nights, it being Fall, the squirrels have come out to play....in our roof!!!!!! We've spoken to the landlord about it several times, but nothing is being done about it! Every day 24/7....you hear them scratching and clawing and running around.... it is ANNOYING to say the least! We'll probably end up moving because of it! It's ridiculous!!!

Does anyone know of anything I can do to try to get them out of here on my own....Just so I can get SOME sleep??? Do those Ultrasonic things work?? I'm up for anything!!!! :headache:

I'm sorry - I know you're tired and it must be awful! But I have to ask, did you see the movie "Failure to Launch" ? There is a very similar scenario in it! It can really get on your very last nerve for something like that to keep you from sleeping! I don't know how to get rid of them, though, but wish you luck!

Try having a dog who hears them and wants to chase them...from your bedroom. Wish I had some suggestions for you, but I don't. I'm not sure if you can get on your roof (personally, sounds like a dangerous idea) to put anything up there to scare them off.

If you're in an apartment building, maybe you can request to be moved to an apartment that isn't on the top floor? Of course, then you'd have people instead of squirrels to listen to. Hrm.

When I was still working night shift, this same problem drove me crazy. I would try to sleep during the day and squirrels running all over the top of the house. I had 2 labradors that would bark their heads off at the squirrels. It was so annoying. I also had problems with my dogs going nuts because of deer in our back yard. I never found a way to prevent all this. I"m a SAHM now and get my sleep at night. Now if I could find a way for kids and grandkids to be quiet, all would get a good night's rest.

I found this article .. unfortunately you prolly won't like it at all

Wondering how to get rid of squirrels? There is no magic spray or device that you can use to make them go away. Some people try to sell predator urine, such as coyote or fox urine to get rid of squirrels, but that doesn't work. They also try to sell ultrasonic sound emitters. These devices are worthless at eliminating squirrels. Some old wive's tales recommend the use of mothballs or ammonia-soaked rags to make them leave, but I've been to countless homes where these techniques failed - biologists know that these attempts won't work. The ONE AND ONLY WAY to take care of your problem is with trapping and removal of the animals.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I really appreciate it! I just want a good nights sleep for once!

I don't know how well it would work on a roof but there is a motion sensored sprinkler called the Scarecrow, but if you search for it on google you can find it. I also found it at a local farm/garden place. You hook it up to your hose and it has batteries in it that send a stream of water towards anything that comes inside of its range. It is used to keep deer, dogs, and cats off of lawns. Bet it would work on squirrels if you could find a way to mount it on the roof.

If the squirrels are in your attic or crawlspace the landlord should be concerned. Several years back a squirrel made a nest in our attic without our knowing, chewed a wire into, and started a fire. Luckily it happened early morning, our neighbor saw the smoke and called the fire dept. who responded very quickly. While we did have lots of smoke and water damage everyone was safe. Good luck getting rid of them.

Lisa, that is EXACTLY what I'm afraid, of, but they really don't seem concerned. Do I phone the est control people myself, and have them come out and do it and then just send the bill to my landlord, or what?? I want something done about them!! They woke me up again this morning at 4:30 AM!!! They litterally sound as though they are going to come INTO the apartment!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call your animal control and tell them your concerns and ask if there is any way that the owner of the apartment building can be forced to do something about this for safety reasons. or most cities have someone that over-see's apartment complexes.. safety teams or something like that? anyways .. might be worth a try
