Way to go, 3FC!!!

  • Applause for the Stop Global Warming band at the top of the page. A great way to raise public awareness and do your part. I'm actually amazed at those who still deny that it's happening.

    A few tips:

-Use compact fluorescent light bulbs. "Listen to the statistic from the EPA report," Laurie says. "If every American household changed five regular light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs, it would be like taking 8 million cars off the road."
-If you bring clothes to the dry cleaners, bring along a garment bag instead of having them wrap your cleaned clothes in plastic.
-Unplug appliances when you're not using them, even though you may think they're off. "For example, when you take your phone off, if the charger's still in the wall, it's sucking energy and that's costing us money and costing us emissions," Laurie says. "Everything needs to be pulled out of the wall: your coffee maker, your toaster, your hairdryer."
-Buy toilet paper made from post-consumer waste paper—that's recycled paper!

    Things I do at home:

Use fans and limit use of A/C

Limit use of oven by using BBq in summer,George Forman Grill or toaster over which all use less electricity than the oven.

Turn off any lights if you are not going to be in that room for a while.

I bought an energy efficient fridge, washer and drier (which also uses less water). When our stove dies we will replace it with a more efficient one.

    At work:

I turn off the lights in any office we are not using.

I leave the a/c on low as any higher and we all have to wear sweaters so what's the point.

When we leave at night or for the weekend I turn the a/c off as there is no point cooling the place when no one is there.

*I started doing this and now my co-workers are following my lead. It may not be much but every bit counts!
  • Thanks! We watched An Inconvenient Truth and it's haunting me.
  • My favorite energy-saving tip is rather old-fashioned ... hang clothes outside on the clothing line instead of using the dryer. They smell great, you don't use unnecessary heat, and you get just a few more steps in your day.
