Help! Looking for Insurance!

I’m new here, i don't know which category i'm going to post. i'm shopping around for insurance and hoping I can get opinions from everybody here about which ones to avoid and which ones you have had a good experience with. your suggestions will help me more to have an idea and choice to compare with...

I'm not sure which type of insurance you are looking for. I did have Progressive for car insurance, but it pretty much doubled with each renewal so I dropped it and went to Shield of Shelter and it has been great.
I did have Disability Insurance through Unum-Provident, when I became disabled they never paid me a penny after taking my premiums for years while I was totally healthy. This company filed for bankruptcy protection and they owed me $650,000 which was 80% of my income until the age of 65. They have a large class-action suit against them, but I still doubt I'll ever see a penny.
As for medical insurance, we have Blue Cross and Blue Shield, it is good coverage. When my DH first changed jobs and we tried to get an independent medical insurance, they told us it would cost $1000.00 monthly for a family plan and than I would not be covered, since I had known health problems. We couldn't afford this, so waited the 90 days for his new health insurance to cover us and there was no pre-existing clause with BCBS.
