Question South America

Anyone here spent time travelling around South America? My friend and I have decided to go next year for a couple months, and are trying to figure out where to go. We're on a pretty tight budget, so place like the Galapagos and Easter Island are out. We're definitely fitting in Machu Picchu and would love to see the Amazon. We're up for anything and are quite happy to rough it. Any stories/suggestions would be great, or places you though would be good but weren't as good as you expected. Thanks everyone!

Sierra, I have a dear friend that travelled around there,,,and has stories to tell. If you like I could get you both to exchange emails...He said something about Buenas Aires...spelling that wrong,,,anyways he said CHEAP! OMG he got a full steak dinner for a few bucks...way under $10. Hotel room was like $30. a night,,,a nice fully loaded star hotel that is.
Anyways PM me if you want his email addy. He can rattle on,,,he's a librarian,,,and seriously my eyes glazed over with all the places hes been,,,some Ive never heard of.

I know someone who has a kid who is teaching English in the Galapagos (I think his time there is cheap because of it). You guys might be able to find a short term commitment teaching and be able to spend some time in some of the more expensive areas.

Have a great time!
