Burnout
Hey there,
Have any of you ever had a burnout? Wow, I just experienced one today :S You see, I work "part-time" at McDonald's which happens to be 4-6 days a week, not only do I also try to make it to the gym 3-4 times for a 2hr workout, but I'm also a full-time student. It dawned on me how much stress I was putting on myself and I felt very overwhelmed. I go to school 'cause I have to, I go to the gym because I want to be fit (or at least TRY) and I know I should work less hours but money seems to be the top priority for me at the moment, even though it should be my exams which are all schedueled next week. I've been having 4 hrs of sleep every night for the past week and all day long at work today, I was snapping at everyone and I just wanted to curl up and cry, which I'm ashamed to admit I did right after I finished my shift. Yep...all this work is putting me off from ever working in a real job when I'm older...it all makes it seem not worth the stress. Anyway...thnx for listening....my feet are killing me lol |
Don't feel ashamed! Sleep is a wonderful (and necessary) thing...*lol*
I've been in your shoes soooo often. Congratulations on keeping so much going on! Is there any possible way you can make some time for yourself a few times a week? It could just be enough for say a bubble bath or a cup of coffee... |
Sleep deprivation does horrible things to your body and mind. Whatever you can do to get more sleep will be well worth it.
|
Listen to your body and SLEEP. Listen to your better judgement and focus on your schoolwork and that "real" job you want in the future. :)
|
I'm in burnout right now - the icky long term kind that requires major life changes to get past. I'm actively looking for another job and I'm seriously considering going back to school in the fall (which is a big deal for me since I'm 40 and thinking about a total career change).
|
Yay, I's relieved today. I got my shift replaced by someone else, I relaxed, had a moment to breath and I'm going to SLEEP as soon as I finish posting this. I've never been so excited to hit the sack =) Thanks so much for your replies, guys!
And CJ, that must not be too fun. Hope everything works out in the end! Don't strain yourself too much. :) |
P.S. I know from personal experience what it's like to be balancing a job at McDonald's and eating healthy! *lol*
|
Been there done that,,,Get your rest,,,things look totally different when you have a few hours of shut eye. Take care of you
|
I'm also working part-time at McDonald's. Weird thing is, I'm so active there that I don't bother to work out at home except with (minimal) strength training. I'm still managing to lose weight. I don't think I'd be able to handle McDonald's AND working out. I'm always so worn out from the activity there.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. At one point in my life, I had a one-year-old baby, was going to college, takign five classes so I could get my degree and be DONE with it, worked at Kodak part-time and did hair on Saturdays (where I made enough money to pay for daycare during the week). Baby's father was useless (don't get me started on THAT). So, alls I can tell you is this...in college, don't you have to take phys ed as a required class? Can you take this during the day with your classes at school? I think when push comes to shove, you have to look at your list of stuff you do and think of what HAS to stay and things that are optional. Unfortunately, I think the optional thing is the workign out. You have to go to college to get out of working at McD's and you have to work at McD's to pay for college. I'd recommend a workout tape or DVD for home workouts until you graduate college, get a good job and then you'll have the luxury of time to go to a gym and work out the way you want to.
Good luck!! And get some sleep!! And take your vitamins!! And drink lots of Green Tea. Just my home remedies... ;) |
LadyFirelyght, I understand exactly what you mean. I was a manager at McDonald's and it literally ran me off my feet every day. I didn't join the gym until I got a job where I was sitting down all day...I still kind of miss being on my feet so much! :)
|
Oh wow, I had no idea so many people here have experienced the horrors of McDonalds =S What's worst is that right now it's the summer so whether u want an ice cream, cup of coffee or some grub, there's always a McDonald's just around the corner to tempt you. I literaly sweat from running back and forth for endless hours....
Just a dreamy1...I'm in love with the philly steak sandwich on brown bread... And Techwife, wow! Talk about multi-tasking lol. That must have been hard but at least you pulled through! And I'm still (unfortunatley) in highschool, I still don't have any college debts to pay for...YET. I used to think working was a work out for me, but I never saw any weightloss benefits and that was dissapointing, besides, I have a year membership at the gym with a program that included a personal trainer and that, considering my measley budget, cost me an arm and a leg. I don't want to let it go to waste. It's summer now, school's over...maybe I'd be able to handle things better for now! =) Thank you all for your replies! |
Kelendria: Well, that's a relief. School's out so now you can relax. I thought you were in college. Are you graduated from high school? If not, I'd work more hours now during summer so you can pack some cash away so you can take some time off when school start again so you don't over extend yourself with homework, workouts and class time. I mean, you have to have time set aside to be a kid!! Once you get to be an adult, you won't ever be able to be a kid again (until you have kids of your own, then you can relive some things ;) and live vicariously through them... )
Good luck and enjoy your summer. I love Montreal. Have you ever been down river to Upper Canada Village? My daughter went there on a field trip last year in school...and we go as a family every couple years. :D |
Kelendria,
Haven't you gotten atleast a little sick of the food yet? *lol* I ended up bringing lunches to work regularly. I never tried the philly cheese steak before I became vegetarian. But it smells AMAZING:dizzy: |
Haha, techwife you are sooo right. I'm missing out on being a normal teenager and having fun...but then again, not many sixteen year olds have 400$ to spend on whatever they want every month. I guess I am lucky and afterall, I did put all this stress upon myself... lol, now saving cash for later is another story. It's the single most hardest thing I can ever force myself to even try attempting. It's futile :p
I've never been to upper canada...never been anywhere other than the suburban part of montreal except for downtown which is beautiful. It's like a mix of france's elegance and newyork's upbeat moderness....speaking of newyork lol, I noticed you live there. I've been on a school trip there 2 months ago and I wish I never left. It's the most amazing thing I have ever set foot in. So much culture and diversity, lol, I was left completley breathless! Time Square is wonderfull =O just_a_dreamy1, I can't really complain so far. At least there's a decent diversity in the menu, except I feel my options are limited because I'm *trying* to watch what I eat and almost everything is fried or smeared with oil/butter. I can only have the oriental salad; I can't have the others because there's bacon in it. Lol...come to think of it, I'm getting sick of grilled chicken salad...grilled chicken sandwich...grilled chicken fajitas.... |
Kelendria,
McDonald's is probably another reason why I became a vegetarian. I got sick of the grilled chicken, too! *lol* I used to eat way too many filets, too, except I'd put them on a sesame bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle & barbecue sauce instead of tartar. |
for all those who have to be on their feet all day long..there are some special type of tight socks (stockings) you get to help in venous drainage of your feet...it increases blood flow to your heart and makes your feet less tired!
I cant seem to remember the name right now..but I 'll post once I do.you can ask your doc next time! :) proud of you gals!!! |
I've eaten at my store three times since I started working there (3 weeks ago). Two regular hamburgers w/lettuce and 3 chicken selects. I ate the selects because I really wanted a quick protein/carb boost and I didn't feel like buying something from the store (my McDonald's is inside of a Walmart). Most of the time, though, I bring my own lunch. Recently I've been bringing SBD meal replacement bars. Really good, actually, paired with an apple. Cheaper than buying something (like a sandwich or wrap), too, and more satisfying.
|
I got in the habit of bringing lunches to work every single day, and my coworkers would get jealous and ask if I wanted to trade them for their McDonald's. *lol*
|
I used to bring my own lunch all year at school, now I'm just in a 'blah' moment where I got sick of all my concotions and would rather spend money everytime I wanna eat. Lately I've been having massive cravings for nuggets......mmm....fresh hot nuggets... lol have you ever tried the breakfast menu. All that ham, bacon and sausage they stuff in every single sandwich makes me sick :S The only amazing thing is the pancakes with syrup...because it's not really syrup...just sugar and water...ack, no wonder I haven't lost weight all year :p
ladyfirelyte, aren't SBD meals more expensive than a half-priced sandwiches? If not, I'm hitting the grocery store right away! willmakeit...omg! I need those so bad. Though they must be expensive for socks that are good for you, non? lol.. |
I get that way with lunch, too...except that with me, it only happens if I don't feel like cooking the day before or I don't have enough variety in my choice of foods at home.
I used to eat nuggets alot before I became a vegetarian...double dipped with barbecue & ranch sauce. *lol* I started noticing that they had kind of a bitter taste to them, though:( I love the smell of breakfast at McDonald's! I used to work early in the morning, and I wouldn't even have to eat it...I could just smell it and be satisfied. Until I smelled the eggs in the garbage a few hours later:S |

LadyFirelyght, where are you getting the bars from? I see that you're in Texas...that's probably too good to be true in Canada!
Personally, I LOVE Oatmeal-To-Go bars (cinnamon roll is my fave, and I really want to try banana bread). |
