Not a Gardener, But Trying to Be

This year I'm going to try my hand at growing some of my own vegetables. I've decided to do container gardening, to try to keep the gophers out my crop. I figure, if homegrown tomatoes don't keep me on my eating plan, nothing will. :dizzy:

How about the rest of you? Any gardeners here? Any advice for a newbie? Especially, any advice on the gophers? Our yard looks like Swiss cheese this year with all the gopher holes. If I can keep the critters out of my veggies, I'll be one happy camper.

I'd take advice too! The only things I've gotten to take off are snapdragons, plus chocolate mint and sage. Everything else dies.

Try growing rosemary. Its REALLY hard to kill and adds great flavor.

That's good to know. :) Rosemary & other herbs are already on my list because the odors are supposed to protect the other plants from pests.

Here in my area of southern California gophers have been a huge problem the last couple of years ~ after planting our veggies for summer in our veggie bed this year and seeing two tomato plants just vanish overnight, we decided to call the professional gopher "killer" ~ I had managed to get a couple of them ~ he got all of them!! Good luck, we have success with tomatoes, basil, parsley, rosemarry, oregano and of course zucchini!!

Atm I have courgettes growing easily, tomatoes usually grow well for me, but my dog knocked the over :(
Garlic and onions(from bulbs) basil, chives!
