Need a little advice on sizes
 

My question is whether an 18W is the same as a regular 18. (In theory, I mean. I'm well aware of sizing inconsistancies within the clothing industry.)

My 22W jeans have become way too big; they're just hanging off of me now. (Yayyy!) But my size 18 jeans are still too small to zip up. I do have a couple of 18Ws that fit, but I don't know whether it's because they're actually a larger size than plain old 18, or if it's a difference in brand/cut/style.

I know I'm smaller, and that's definitely a victory, but I'm a little confused as to what size I actually am right now.

I think they are actually a different size. It think its sort of like how some jeans/pants have a regular length or a long/tall length...I think the 18Ws are a larger size.

Yeah, an 18W is a 20 regular, and a 16W is an 18 regular and so on. I wish it wasn't so, but oh well.

yeah. i was watching tv and they mentioned that a 18W and and 18 are different. they're different cuts and all. and each designer/label might makes the cuts different. it's very confusing. the only thing to do is try everything on and shop til you drop. ;)

How bizarre. I always wondered that. In England we don't have W's at all, but when I used to sew I noticed on sewing patterns that there were plain sizes and W sizes, and the W's were more generous. What I found was that they were scaled differently, the patterns allowed for curves and bumps etc, where normal sizes are more straight up and down.
